I just think that I LIKE the show and S2 has been extremely underwhelming from a creative standpoint. Even as someone who loves the show, I'm a bit baffled by the decision. Do I think that gives them the right to be hateful, absolutely not, but I'm not surprised anyone questions the renewal decision. I feel like BATB really needed to hit it's stride in S2, and instead, it struggled, at least from a creative standpoint to find it's footing. Even with the fan base, I think that makes renewal odds pretty slim. There are charming things about being the underdog, but I think BATB failed to prove itself in it's sophomore season. Seasn 2 isn't over yet. We still haven't seen the last 6 episodes. I LOVED episode 16, and I am anxiously awaiting the last 6. Good point. It's just that they had to renew based on what we've seen so far... creatively underwhelming. 2x16 was nice though :-) I hated that they put Gabe in the middle of it like he somehow mattered in the bigger picture with Vincat. It was like a lamb trapped between two titans. Please. It was insulting to our intelligence. Worst excuse for a love triangle ever. Embarrassing even. I would rather have seen their reunion separate from anyone else. Anyway, *sigh* ... as I said, creatively underwhelming. From my standpoint we were a long shot for a second season (but clearly earned it), and then the second season fell short. So renewal feels, authentically, surprising.

i have one question about all the hatred they express for BATB : HOD get renewed too for a fourth season and it didn't do good on rating either ? in fact they didn't do good in rating the whole three seasons , and in its first season it aired with the famous ( Secret Circle ) and it got renewed while the famous one got canceled ?! it didn't win any awards or even nominated for one , not like BATB with its many awards those two years ?! but the show doesn't take even half the hatred BATB takes ? it doesn't take any hate at all ? it is like all the hatred directed only toward our show ?! why ? that is not fair at all ?! I can't answer your questions about other shows, however, my guess is that some people have a knee jerk negative reaction to the "idea" of BATB without ever watching. The other issue, and this is a big one if you ask me, is that the second season has been pretty below average when it comes to character development and storyline. Based on the quality of the story they told, not the production values (etc. which were better), I would think it should have been cancelled too. We might love BATB, but on a scale of 1-10, sometimes we have to ask ourselves how good the story they are telling is, how compelling.... I know this is an unpopular opinion around here, but if I didn't have a fondness for the show I watched in S1 - I would ask the same freaking question. I almost feel like they deserve the crapstorm they are dealing with, based on the quality of the work that they put out in S2. I mean even the beginning of S2 with the "Beast of the week" came off as pretty lame in a way. BATB constantly walks the line between mediocrity and excellence, and in S2 they lost the edge. Maybe the production values got better, etc. but the characters and the relationships - everything that made the show good fell apart. How many good JT & Vincent moments were there? For weeks JT - the main source of humor on the show- was underused as they pushed bad acting (I won't even say who) to the forefront. Every love triangle and relationship that they tried to shove in our face lacked chemistry, and character and/or relationship development. Plus they introduced new characters, and story lines which were awful. I mean, I don't know, I'm not sure what people expect. Couple a creatively lacking second season, with terrible ratings, and an annoyingly devoted fan base - I think this is almost to be expected. The reason this show was renewed, was not because of the storyline, the character development, or anything having to do with excellence from a creative standpoint. It has to do with the fan base.
I mean, by episode 16 the creative team, even, had abandoned their plan for the season because it was failing miserably. ETA: For the record, I can't stand S2, but I love this show, I'm just trying to keep it real. I don't think that S2 warranted a renewal, save for the fan base, and the cast. And like it or not that is the kind o thing that bugs the hell out of most people. I agree with you about season 2, and I've watched all the episodes over and over. Now I know exactly when to fast forward lol! Some of the lines were really bad, and I actually liked the plot of season 1 way better than the ridiculous beasts, mythology, and dark dungeons of season 2. I am in it for the romance, and I felt cheated out of it - on purpose - so they could get more viewers. They knew the Beasties like me were obsessed and would never stop watching. In my opinion, the only thing that kept this show from sinking (besides determined Beasties)were the talented actors. I don't think it would have stood a chance without these actors(all 4) and their chemistry!

Season 3 will held for mid season. That is all we know at this point from what people had shared on this site. Unless, there is new and more information that hasn't been shared yet.

My teenage son used to make fun of me watching Batb (S1) coz i tried to get him to watch it with me since he likes KK; how i screamed, got over emotional, cried… but recently i caught him watching s2 on my laptop (discreetly) and he's been humming to Batb soundtracks on his iPod. my point is, different people has different interests, likes, dislikes etc. This season is not a complete disaster. In fact some even like it better. Having a rabid fan base of course helps too

I think MP was prepared for that onslaught. He knew he would have to justify renewing the worst performing show against a better performing one but he had his answers. I think his answers were what infuriated them because they had no come back to him saying digitally the show does better, that it has upward potential and a great social media presence. All these are facts that they really couldn't argue against. We will commiserate with them and let them heal at this time. But BATB is back on air next month so we must double our efforts to show that MP has his head screwed on straight because I am sure the press will be shoving the low ratings next month in his face all the time.I'm a little confused here. Who cares if the press got their noses out of joint and don't like a programming decision made by a network? They can scream all they want, they have no leverage. All they can do is bash a show they don't like and haven't liked since day one. Seems like the tail trying to wag the dog to me. because the press have the voice to spread good or bad things about Batb. luckily we are in the age and time where now we too can make noise thru twitter, fb, instagram, tumblr etc..

I'm completely agree with you feezya. I loved S1 for C and V's unfolding love and I love S2 for its actions and C/V's heartbreaking dramas. You know if a TV show doesn't trigger emotions in me and I mean really deep and strong emotions I don't watch it. And this show is definitely full with all kind of emotions spot on Add me to the list of those of us who love all of S1 AND S2! The loving, hot, steamy, clarifying moments throughout the series wouldn't be as sweet, heart-thumping and blood-pumping without the heart-wrenching, anger-inducing, tear-producing moments . The ups and downs have to exist as much as there needs to be a beast and a beauty to make it the unique, original, and epic show that it is.
I also have kids who are now hooked on this fabulous show too. My high-school aged daughter and I watch it together. My daughter in college got all her roommates hooked, who got her entire dorm floor hooked. Every time there is a new episode, the TV room on their dorm floor is now FULL of young viewers (WHO ALSO ARE WATCHING THE ADVERTISING ALONG WITH IT- Any corporate sponsors who might be reading this take note!). And none of them are Nielsen participants either. For the media to say that ratings are the beat-all, end-all, you are wrong! All of those girls watch it on TV and then go stream it as well. See how frustrating this is for me to hear all the negative stuff about our show when I know for a fact that it isn't even close to accurate? But I digress...
And now, I am totally psyched to watch S3 and Vincat figuring out who they are as a couple. And then... S4 can (I'm optimistic, anyway) be about them starting to work on the "8 cross-species children" or at the very least the "3 kids and a small dog" they talked about in Date Night. And S5 can be about Vincat raising their family and all the fun beasty stuff that happens with them. OK, yes, I have a wish list too...

I anxiously waited every episode because of the story. In season one I just wanted to see Vincent and Catherine but this time I am actually interested in the story line.

Season 1 was good but only the VinCat parts. I watched and my heart fluttered for them. But none of the scenes made me cry (tear up but not actually cry cry), none of the scenes made me want to rip my hair out, none of the scenes made me want to bang my head against the wall, none of the scenes made me truly and deeply ache for Catherine and Vincent, but you can guarantee I did all those listed during S2 and then some! That's the kind of reaction and emotions I want a show to evoke in me. Weird but true I only hope the remaining 6 and S3 are even more GGRRREEEAAATTTT!!!! *insert Vincent gif here*
