I know people miss the looks, the stares, those VinCat things from last season but I have a theory on that.
When those things happened, as great as they were, that was doing the time when Vincent and Catherine were becoming friends and clearly had feelings for each other but wouldn't necessarily come straight out and say it. They did tell each other that they wanted to be around each other, in various different ways, which was awesome, but they never truly were completely direct about what they felt for each other until Tough Love.
That was cool, cause we could feel their feelings for each other, through their eyes and the emotions.
So my theory is that if/when they separate, all of that will probably come back. At some point they will have to each realise that they want to be with the other person, that they miss the other and quite frankly long for the other. I would love it if we actually saw some longing from both of them and of course, the looks and stares will follow. Just a thought.

It's obvious that there's a coldness mood around season 2. From characters to sets (Cat's appartment, Vincent's boathouse, the lighting...) everything has blues, whites, shady greys and blacks... that, together with the emotional distance of all characters, and the absence of JT and VinCat loving and longing scenes... everything looks soooo cold! Last season were yellows, oranges, light browns, the lighting was wonderful, it fit with the loving scenes (not necessarily sex ones...) I want to believe that the purpose of writers and directors is to make the audience feel as lonely and lost as the characters are... so when they finally rediscover/recognise each other and decide they need to be together, the explosion of emotions will be EPIC! Really hoping so... You know you're absolutely right when you described their places. Very cold. I'm not fond of Catherine's new decor at all. It's very off putting. Her old place was much more inviting & cheerful. No wonder she's so depressed, I would be too if I had to look at that. Even the warehouse was more homey than Vincent's boathouse. Well if it is their intention to make us all feel lonely & lost, mission accomplished! I'm still holding out hope like you that when they're FINALLY together it will be epic too! We know they can bring it if they're allowed!

Kiki09, you nailed it and I think I finally understand why I don't feel completely satisfied by how things are going (especially between VinCat). When we finally knew that Vincent's memories would be wiped in season 2, I put together all KK and JR interviews and understood what they meant about "falling in love again". And there is the problem! I actually made up my own version of the second season!! So I prepared myself to struggle with the first arc of the season with our VinCat completely apart but happy because we could re-live what happened during season 1!! I agree with you that the stares, longing, etc.. only happens before a couple comes to terms and consolidate so, once we past that point in S1, there was no way to come back there! That's why I was so excited when I knew about Vincent's memories, because I thought they were very smart in finding a way to give us that AGAIN and fit it with the story! The reality is that during this first 6 episodes they are in and out with their relation... Are they together or not? That's what we question ourselves after every episode! And that's WHY I don't see how both are falling in love again! It's more about Vincent getting more emotions as he recovers memories and Catherine keeping herself from being hurted but allowing him to come and woo her a bit... But it doesn't seem correct... something's missing! My version of this season (what I expected and we didn't get, that's why my disappointment at some level) is that with Vincent's wiped memory Cat would take some emotional distance from him but keep working together (i.e. searching for the beast of the week) and while all those "missions" happened, Vincent would fall in love with Catherine again (maybe similar to 1st season but very different if they were building the mythology!), and Catherine would meet a new side of Vincent which would also be very appealing and make her fall in love even more! What we got is a cold Vincent, with no emotions, Catherine willing to be with Vincent despite he's not "there" anymore (yeah, I get it, she doesn't give up), and then when finally Vincent starts to feel he wants to know Catherine better, she decides to take that emotional distance. Because, IMO, and despite they are together now, Catherine is still very distant emotionally speaking... So, here I have the answer to my disappointment! Maybe knowing spoilers doesn't help me because I build up my own story about what could happen and if it doesn't ... well, unless they positively surprise me, I feel bad afterwards...

Great thread! It was an interesting read to say the least I have my own theory regarding Season 2 and why it isn't sitting well with most fans ( I'm personally enjoying it ). When I first heard about BATB, I was ecstatic and stoked that my favourite Disney cartoon was being turned into a TV show, especially when I knew that KK was cast as Beauty! I have always been in love with the theme of beauty falls in love with a beast, a dangerous and unkind creature who learns to love and change due to one woman's love. I was a bit surprised and kinda disappointed with Season 1 because I didn't get to see the dangerous and mean beast! I saw a kind and gentle man who had been experimented on, who lived in hiding for fear of being caught and further tortured. It was SO easy to fall in love with him and our beauty had no trouble whatsoever in doing the same. There was no struggle on her part, she never was scared of him, never worried that he might hurt her, never torn. I don't mean that I wanted to see V hurt Cat physically, but he is a beast, a man with animal DNA. Cat was supposed to fear him, hate him at the beginning, THEN learn to love and care for him after seeing the goodness inside. We didn't see that during S1. Their love came easy. Sure they didn't kiss until the 13th episode, but they were deeply attracted to each other right from the start. With Season 2, I am sort of seeing what I would have liked to have seen during Season 1. Cat meeting this supercharged Beast who kills other beasts with no remorse or guilt. Only our beauty is terrified of this monster and takes all sorts of action to capture him and turn him in, only to eventually grow closer and fonder of him after seeing the goodness and loving nature that she eventually brings out in him. THAT was what I wanted to see and maybe that's why I'm enjoying this season. It's like V with no memory of the past is the V I wanted in Season 1. He is a real BEAST this season and I hope we see Catherine struggle to fall in love with this version of V ( though I doubt we will ). We already got to see our VinCat in love last season. We already experienced the LOVE and CHEMISTRY and PASSION these two shared and I think that's why many people are becoming impatient and upset with how cold and 'unmagical' VinCat seem to be during this season. We were treated to all the juicy and good bits, then had these bits taken away completely! Now had season 1 truly been about 'Man or Beast' and 'Beauty falling in love with the Beast', I 'm pretty sure it would have been more successful. People who first tuned in didn't see a BEAST. They saw a hurt and sad man who was living in secret and hiding due to some experiments he had been subjected to. I wish Season 1 had ended with VinCat finally admitting their love just to be torn and ripped apart by Muirfield, then see them in Season 2 'overcoming anything together' and working TOGETHER against the world to save their love and other innocent people who have also been hurt due to Muirfield experiments. It's sad that the writers got the stories switched. I really believe that we will get to see an even better and stronger VinCat this season. We only have speculations now. We don't know what the writers have planned after the mid-season finale. I have a feeling that episode 6 was a game changer and that the real story will start to unravel during the next 2 episodes. We just have to be patient because after all this angst, pain, hurt and lies, a more beautiful and enchanting tale of Beauty and the Beast will be revealed and guess what? Make-up sex is the HOTTEST AND SEXIEST kind of sex, right?

I see what you are saying savana and feel like your own version could actually happen in the second arc. Cause to me, when they separate, I still want them to be able to somehow work or be around each other in some capacity so that could have those moments again. I agree that there is some emotional distance between them, and since the tables have turned, it is definitely more on Catherine's end. But I think this limbo we all feel that they are in can be a little confusing, at least for me. I'm conflicted in that I want them to be together (who doesn't love VinCat moments?) BUT I really need for them to sort their lives out separately before coming 'together' together. Because right now they are sort of together but they are not on the same wavelength emotionally that they were in s1. So I'm conflicted in that way. I think with spoilers and even speculations, they can hype up one's idea of what the season will/should be so when it doesn't turn out that way, you will be disappointed, so I'm trying to stay spoiler/speculation-free in 2014, so I don't hype it up too much for myself. I think regardless of how their relationship is right now, I believe that BATB knows how to do a good payoff and they do know what the fans want. They just won't necessarily do it/tell the story in the fashion we want and I think I've accepted that this season.

Like Sherri/Jen said at SDCC, by the end of last season (even throughout s1 essentially) Vincent truly wasn't this menacing beast. That is exactly what he is this season and I feel like peeps are not enjoying this fact but I think it needs to be that way because like you said Zena, she needs to love him and accept him despite all of this. Despite all of the things he's been doing, how unpredictable he is, she needs to love him with all his faults. Because VK s1 was so easy to love and feel for and this one 'technically' isn't as easy to relate to, I think it might be a reason peeps are turned off but I think it should be an even better reason for us and Cat to see past this 2.0 and still care for him in the way we did in s1. Zena, you truly nailed it. I feel you 100%

Granted, like other series, Batb's not perfect. Am sure they have a reason for everything. I am patient and I'll wait for everything to unfold slowly. I just hope TPTB realize that making us wait this long (and more?), they better have something huge and explosive for us IN RETURN

^ Savana, I'm not sure I'm NOT seeing it. Cause after Kidnapped and leading into Hothead, her approach to him has definitely changed. She's less 'remember everything and let's get back to us'. I feel like she's more of, 'let the memories come as they will'. But I also see what you're saying about not falling in love with new V. But I also think it is way too early to tell because to me, regardless of whether they are kissing each other and being all semi-lovey dovey, I still find their relationship to be undefined.

I think it is great that they made Vincent more beastly! It added a lot of "angst” and drama, and is more in line with the classic fairytale version of “Beauty and the Beast”. But in season 1 the show has already established their undying (to use another term than "epic”) love for each other, and the "together we can overcome anything”. They cannot undo this now! I want to see the love from Cat, not this strange indifference I’m seeing at the moment…

Yes, she cares, she helps him, she kisses him and hugs him but.. awwww I don't know it's very confusing!! LOL!! I don't know why and how to explain it but she doesn't look as a person who is open to know the new Vincent and who is falling in love with him! Don't know... maybe it's too complex to just be black or white... I think I would prefer that they were separated 100% and in some point together-together, than this undefinition we have!!! But just to be clear, I LOVE BATB and love VinCat and can't wait to FEEL more than "see" the sparkle! And by "feeling" I mean, me being crazy and rewatching a scene 100 times, literally!, and having butterflies in my stomach just watching the two of them "dancing" around... but that's what mainly appealed me in S1 and keeps me here!!

And by "feeling" I mean, me being crazy and rewatching a scene 100 times, literally!, and having butterflies in my stomach just watching the two of them "dancing" around... but that's what mainly appealed me in S1 and keeps me here!! Lol! I get you! Haha I agree. I'm ride-or-die VinCat-lover but I feel like they NEED a separation. Separation can give them clarity, then longing and all those lingering states we love lol! Right now noman's land is confusing lol I'm here for all aspects of BATB, the angst, the romance, the action, the character development etc but IMO because the strongest part (the romance/VinCat relationship) is so undefined, a lot of things we overlooked in s1, are now becoming glaringly obvious. I think that's the struggle we have right now with the show. I think they really need to tighten up the writing for the other parts because we know that JR/KK can rise above a poor script and deliver great performances but the other parts that don't directly affect VinCat need to be tighter and coherent. And personally, more JT, better use of Tess (poor Nina) and less Gabe. Gabe and his 'prominence' all of a sudden has really messed with the dynamics of the show IMO and of Team VinCat/Beastie.

^^ I completely agree!! VinCat brought me here, but that's not enough and in absence of pure VinCat, we pay more attention to other weaknessses of the show! 100% agree with all characters development and presence! I need a dose of JT urgently!!!

Thanks to savana for creating this post. There have been quite a few interesting points raised already on both sides. Someone mentioned that it was the "secret" they shared which brought them closer in season 1 and was part of the reason we had so many of the vincat magic moments (Cat's 4 page manifesto, her running to JT just to know if he was ok, Vincent explaining to Cat how he feels while showing her the paintings..and so on). There isn't a secret anymore with Vincent 2.0. Also if we look at the original fairy tale the beast wasn't a good guy to begin with unlike Vincent 1.0. Even though I wasn't there at the time (just got into the show last month) I know some people did complain about just that in some of season 1 reviews about how Vincent 1.0 is so easily lovable and not really a beast. That is true however that's what the show was for better or worse and while some may not like it others did. It seems to me they are trying to get back some of the viewers who stopped watching the show after the first few episodes of season 1 and giving them a more beast oriented story. I don't necessarily have a problem with that and if it brings more viewers in it might keep the show running longer. It might not be the show I fell in love with but at least it will have some of the elements that keep me wanting more...
