I think we'll finally get the emotional background from our Beauty during her sessions with the shrink. it'll probably be thru that that she realizes the walls she keeps putting up to Vincent, and will get her to fight for him, and hopefully come clean on the depth of her feelings. THATs what I'm focussing on for the next few eps, b/c I really think it might be the only part that I will enjoy.
Also, I too am hoping that the I can't compete with Alex remark is made to JT and he fills her in on some insight in the old Valex relationship. Maybe this is where the old/past Vincent issue with drug addition and alex nursing him out of it comes out.... Oh - wait! Cold Turkey - maybe Vincent then feels he needs to return the favour to Alex b/c she's stealing drugs... and probably is addicted too!!!

i think that that is what is going to happen since it was something like that what went on in the 80's version of it... no the i cant compete with alex remark cat says to vincent and plus i hope that the romantic getaway ends up being vincent making alex go cold turkey to her addiction to medications!

I've been wanting to log the minutes for the characters since the series started because I felt that if you didn't like Kristin Kreuk or her character, you would have a very hard time watching this series since it seemed like she was in almost every scene, especially in the first few episodes. I've logged the minutes for the first 8 episodes and here are Catherine/KK's on screen minutes.
Pilot and 2nd episode she was in approximately 40 of the 42 minutes 3rd All In episode 38 out of 40 mins. 4th Basic Instinct 36 out of 42 mins. 5th Saturn Returns 36 out of 41 1/2 mins.. 6th Worth 32 1/2 min. out of 40 1/2 mins. 7th out of Control 30 min out of 41 1/2 mins.
Sometimes the recap takes almost 1 minute of the episode so Worth is actually only 39 1/2 minutes and there was only 7 minutes of the episode that Catherine actually wasn't in.
Right now, I think we know far more about Catherine than we do any of the other characters. We know about her family, that she went to Princeton and graduated magna cum laude, got top marks at the academy, can defend herself, will do what she thinks is right even if she gets suspended, will break the law not only to protect and hide a mutant killing vigilante but also illegal immigrants, has a history of picking douchey guys in order to protect her herself and not feel vulnerable, that she's somewhat awkward in social situations and we've gotten to see the way she interacts with her father, sister, boss, co-workers, suspects, victims, villans, etc.
Right now we don't know anything about Vincent's parents or how or when they died. We don't know if his brothers killed in the Twin Towers were fireman or policeman, janitors, stockbrokers, how long he and JT have known each other or why they became such close friends. Some of this I think we would know if the show had included some scenes of Catherine and Vincent's late night get togethers. I would think Catherine would have asked Vincent some of these things, and we would also have gotten some more nice "date like" moments of them interacting before ex-fiances entered the picture.
Anyway, here's what the first few episodes look like. I can post the others if people are curious.

wow that is dedication!!!!! It does look ridiculous when you look at the posting, but it actually didn't take very long since I have the episodes downloaded from iTunes and I can skip forward through the scenes. It's not exact exact either when you have scenes like the birthday party and the baseball game and closing montages, plus all those establishing shots and little transitions. Do all shows have so many brief scenes though? I think the longest scene with 2 people talking is like 3 minutes with most being more like 2.

pippin don't deny your Kristin Kreuk fan bloodline. Ha, Ha. No not at all. If I had not become a fan of KK, I would have remained basically oblivious to the programming on the CW and the network's continuing existence. Until 2010, I had no idea, Smallville was still on the air and until last year, I had no idea there was a show called One Tree Hill that ran for 10 seasons. And I certainly would never have bothered to watch a show on the CW that received as many negatives reviews as Beauty did, if it weren't for KK being in it. Thank goodness I didn't find the pilot as bad as the reviews said it was and I can honestly say that I am greatly enjoying the show and not just because of KK.

pippin, cool breakdown. However, I think dan's big issue is that Cat's existence on the show seems to be heavily tied to Vincent. We've been told a lot of fact's about Cat, sure, but we haven't been shown as much.
Same with Vincent. We've been told some facts -- like who he was in the army with, but we really didn't get the story until the flashbacks. Being shown a picture or being told a fact isn't developing the character.
It's the basics of good writing. You want to show, not tell. If you're telling and not showing, you're doing something wrong.
Out of the entire show, I think Cat and Vincent are the only two characters that have really been developed. Though we've been teased with glimpses of other characters, I guess.
I suspect the writers have cut some of the Cat stuff that would've given her more background...and I hope we're told more about her in future episodes. As for Vincent, I think this Alex S/L hasn't taught me anything about his character so far. I saw a box of pictures that made no sense...given that Alex shouldn't have had some of those pix and letters since Vincent totally ditched her before the army. (But whatever. That's continuity and it seems the departments on BATB production don't communicate with each other well enough to ensure basic continuity.)
I agree with you that I'd love to know more about Vincent's parents and his siblings. I also have a feeling someone is not dead... I just feel like Vincent is going to think he has no family and someone will resurface or it'll turn out Muirfield took them or something. But I don't think that would happen this season.
For what it's worth, I'm still enjoying the show, but I would love more development of the character and I hope the writers pick up the pace with that.

For what it's worth, I'm still enjoying the show, but I would love more development of the character and I hope the writers pick up the pace with that. See I think all of the screen time for Cat has shown us rather than told us. We see she has a sister and how they relate, we've seen her father and how the interact, we see how she responds in social situations with a bunch of guys, when a co-worker gets flirty or a suspect tells her to, "turn around and let me watch you walk that skinny little ass the hell out of my club." For me, when the show first started, I felt that it was Vincent who didn't have much of a purpose other than serving as Catherine's love interest and that they had to find reasons for him to be involved in her cases. And that's where this show has more challenges trying to be a love story with a procedural twist in that unlike Booth and Brennan or Castle and Beckett, this couple can't easily be together while not being a couple since they aren't work partners. If the CW had allowed the show to be more serialized, I think Vincent and Catherine could be working together, with Catherine trying to find Muirfield to get justice for her mother's murder and Vincent trying to find Muirfield to get a cure, but since the CW wanted a more episodic show you got Catherine working on her cases separate from Vincent.
