Wow your idea is amazing. So the doctor couldn't save one of VinCat babies right. Maybe not. pippin's preferred/speculative s4 ending was to have Cat die. So I wouldn't be surprised if her version of s5 started by having Cat die during delivery. LOL. Yes, my season 5 would be another chance to kill one of them off, but the doctor's opening line would be the only thing viewers would be given. The rest of the season would be a flashback so viewers would be left wondering if it was Vincent, Cat, maybe Kyle, maybe a VinCat baby that dies.

The rest of the season would be a flashback so viewers would be left wondering if it was Vincent, Cat, maybe Kyle, maybe a VinCat baby that dies. So what would happen at the end of s5? Well, for the end to make some sense, i will have to give you the rest of the S5 setup. Back in the S5 premiere, Agent Dylan would tell VinCat that she's not there to arrest them but that she needs their help. She would tell them about an extremist anti-government group called something like Free Americans United that is planning on carrying out a number of violent attacks to disrupt the upcoming U.S. election. That the government's inside informants had been found out and brutally murdered before they could discover the targets or who the real leader of the Free Americans group was. Now with the election only 8 weeks away, they didn't have time to get other informants into the group which was more paranoid than ever, but VinCat had the perfect cover story already and were viewed as heroes for bombing the military base and for trying to blow up the bridge. And if VinCat did help and were successful, she would promise them that as the newly appointed Deputy Secretary of DHS, she would see to it that they could return to their old lives and jobs if they wanted to free and clear. DHS would say that VinCat had been working undercover for DHS all along and the public manhunts and such were part of establishing their cover story to infiltrate Free Americans United. VinCat would think she was there to give them an ultimatum -- help or be exposed -- but Dylan would say that no one at DHS but her knew they were alive and that she wouldn't expose them even if they didn't want to help. The choice was theirs. If they decided to help, they needed to be on a flight leaving for NYC in 2 days. JT and Heather would be against VinCat getting involved. The last part of the episode would be VinCat on the plane heading back to NYC. During the flight, a pregnant woman would go into labor and VinCat would help deliver the baby. Nothing would be said, but it would be clear that Vincent really wants a baby now too. Then episodes 2-4 would have VinCat infiltrating the group and sabotaging their activities while trying to maintain their cover, so kinda similar to the middle episodes of S4. Somewhere in there, JT would propose to Tess, Kyle would propose to Heather and in episode 5, VinCat would get to the Free Americans United leader (I'll name him Ron Spencer) and arrest him. At the end of the episode, Cat would tell V that she is pregnant. Episodes 6: V is back working at the hospital, Cat is back working as an NYPD Detective but V is having some physical issues, parts of him -- his feet, one of his hands --are becoming permanently beastly. Episodes 7-10: JT is using his position at Tanirushi to try and figure out what is going on with V, Cat and Heather are trying to find more information about Muirfield's experiments in Vanessa's papers to see if that will help JT, Cat and V are trying to track down other Muirfield scientists who might have answers, Tess is rounding up any stray Free American members and trying to track down JT's mother (who maybe could be played by Linda Hamilton unless we want to have a flashback with V's mother and Hamilton could play her) and mixed in with that are bachelor/bachelorette parties, wedding and baby planning and testifying against Spencer. Episode 11 would be the double wedding or maybe JTnT elope cuz JT has no family and Tess is embarrassed by the pack of wolves she was raised by and doesn't want to have to wear a wedding dress much less shop for one. Anyway Heather would ask Vincent to walk her down the aisle. During the reception at the end of the episode, Cat would tell V. that she isn't feeling well and then uh-oh . . .they have to rush Cat to the hospital Episode 12: But it's a false alarm. Cat and baby are ok but doctor tells Cat she needs to take it easy. Skip ahead and Cat is now very pregnant and ready to have the baby. Baby is born. It's a healthy, "normal" little girl. VinCat are happy, happy, happy especially V. whose feet and hand return to normal as all his fear and anxiety melt away. Meanwhile the few remnants of Free Americans United are secretly plotting their revenge. Episode 13: 1 month has passed and it is the day of VinCat's 2nd wedding anniversary. Spencer sneaks out of prison during a riot staged to hide his escape. Cat is at home with the baby updating the photo album and getting ready for their anniversary, JTnT return from their honeymoon, Vincent, Kyle and Heather met up at the subway to help plot Vincent's anniversary date with Cat while an FAU member follows them onto the subway and Spencer arrives outside VinCat's apartment.

I'm not necessarily that into happy endings and, although I never could get into the CBS version even when I tried again recently, that one didn't have a happy ending so I like the idea of the CW one giving a nod to their predecessor.

I'm ready to declare that S2 is my favorite. I find those are the episodes I re-watch the most. The change in Vincent from episode 1 to 22 is fulfilling and interesting. Even when I didn't like how he treated Cat at times, I at least understood where he was coming from. Plus, he is so confident, sexy and hot! I wasn't upset he lost his scar from S1 and have read it caused problems for Jay's skin and wouldn't stay on. I thought the back story on V 2.0 was clever to explain its absence. S1 has lots of bright spots like wonderful music, "the kiss", Evan, and more. Vincent was so sweet and precious as he began to come alive due to Cat. However, I didn't always understand him (Alex arc) or like his actions. Some of the episodes are so painful to watch as Cat's heart is breaking. S3 is warming up to me as I re-watch it. I like it better than S4. S4 is my least favorite. I hope I like it better after viewing it again. Vincent and Cat just weren't together enough. He was always hiding out or being tortured or... The dialogue became very repetitive, the music was underwhelming and I didn't like Tess much. Of course there were some wonderful scenes (Cat and JT saying "I Love You" to each other) and I really enjoyed Heather. I wish the series finale was 2 hours so things didn't feel so rushed.

I agree that season 2 has a rewatch quality. I like to watch season 1 first 9 episodes mostly, where they fell in love other than that I don't like the rest of the season that much because of the finale and what happened in s2. It just make me sad but now that I know s2 has a happier ending than s1, it makes it easy to watch it. And Jay did look more hot in s2. I did loved s3 so in that way s4 is my least favourite season. The ending ruined it and I would like to think the show ended in s3. Much more happy and logical.

Season 1&2 are so close in being the favorite season of mine. I agree with you I think. I loved S2 V, his sexiness, his confidence and the sexual tension between VinCat all season. What really ruined S1 in being favorite season is two thing imp, the pace of individual episode seemed too slow and the Vs whole self loathing and how they were constantly trying to show it and explain how much he really did. His self pity was getting old by the later part of the season especially after VinCat officially got together.

What got you into BATB?
I was channel surfing one day when I came across BATB. It was season 1 and the episode was Trapped (Ep.8) I found myself hooked almost immediately. Vincent was having his fuges and Cat walked in and, although it was clear that they were not a couple as such, the chemistry between them was very apparent. I set my SKY box to record the next episode which was of course 'Bridesmaid Up', one of my all time favourites. The sight of Vincent walking through those wafting voile curtains, all washed and scrubbed and Cat's face as the two of them had that first dance, gazing into each other's eyes..well, that was me gone. I don't think I've ever been the same since.
After that, I searched online and found a website where I could watch episodes 1-7 and I watched them practically back-to-back on one, amazing Saturday (I think I watched the last one about 2am). Disappointingly, the Episode 5 Saturn Returns link was not working and I didn't see it 'til months later, so I had to fill in the blanks myself until I finally got to see it.
What did you enjoy most about the show?
Like most people, the romance was what attracted me to the show, the chemistry between the two leads was off the charts, and also the comedy from JT, Tess and Heather. I was a lot happier when the former resigned as president of the 'Stay Away From Cat' club and encouraged Vincent to be honest about his feelings for her. I knew KK from Smallville. Although I had only watched a few episodes, I thought that she was absolutely beautiful. JR was a complete unknown to me but I remember thinking that in many ways, he was equally as beautiful as KK. It goes without saying that he has the body of a greek god but it was always his face that I loved the most. His dark, brooding but sad eyes (and that voice!!) I also remember thinking that the casting of Jay Ryan as the beast was a stroke of genius. I still think that way. NO ONE could have played Vincent Keller better than Jay. I was so drawn to the danger and vulnerability of Vincent from the start and fell in love with him straight away. I really cared about this man and felt the injustice of his situation and I wanted things to turn around for him. Getting Cat was obviously part of this as, even at this early stage, I felt that it was their destiny to be together and live happily ever after. That's why I can't imagine a scenario where either Cat or Vincent died and the other was left all alone.
What will you miss about the show?
I will miss waking up and looking forward to streaming the next episode on my laptop. That's what I will miss the most. The excitement of a new episode to enjoy and discuss with my fellow beasties on this forum. I will miss the entire cast and seeing them on my screen, but most of all, I will miss that VinCat connection.
Favourite behind-the-scenes footage/photo?
The one I like the best is the one of Jay and Kristin on the tandem in the BTS picture from VinCat's honeymoon. They just look so happy and relaxed.
Best moment or scene in batb overall?
Well this is almost impossible to choose. I am torn between the first dance at the wedding, the first kiss on the rooftop, the second kiss at the ball, the love scene at the end of AMP and the wedding. There's also the moment on the houseboat when Cat and Vincent got back together and the reunion on the rooftop in 216, Vincent producing the rose and Cat in that green dress with the snow falling. I think I am going to have to go for the wedding as it was probably when VinCat were happiest. As Vincent said, 'That moment I could live in forever'. Jay wiping the tear from Kristin's chin was my favourite ad-lib moment. It was such a natural thing to do.
Favourite episode?
Again, this is a tough one but I think I will have to go for' Heart of Darkness'. Great episode from start to finish but that conversation on the subway is possibly my favourite VinCat conversation in the whole show. AMP was a very close second though.
Favourite acting moment?
I'm torn between Kristin's scenes in 'Chasing Ghosts' and 'No Way Out'. I think the latter was a very important scene as Cat tried to outline why she had done the things that she had done and what it had cost Vincent and herself. Jay's performance in 'No way out' was also amazing as I thought at one point, he was going to be 'broken' during that interrogation and would never be the same. But Cat's love saved him...again.
Funniest moment?
The thought of JT throwing pencils at the ceiling in his office for three hours to give VinCat some alone time. I especially loved it when he left for the second time 'with more pencils'.
Favourite season?
Has to be season 1 because watching Vincent and Catherine slowly coming together and overcoming all the barriers to their relationship was such an amazing journey. The conversations and the looks they gave each other were just so good in Season 1. Only negative was that it's the only season that ends on a downer. Season 3 was definitely the best end to a season.
Favourite romantic moment?
I have given this one a lot of thought and finally, I think I have to go for the first kiss on the rooftop. It was a sad and hopeless moment, when Vincent knew everything was going to change as a result of him killing Darius. He gives Cat an 'out' and tells her he wants her to have what she wants but the relief is so apparent in his face when she declines his offer to walk away and she tells him that she loves him and wants to share everything, good and bad, with him. We were glued to our screens. We had waited and waited an eternity for this moment. We had had false dawns, interruptions and Alex getting in the way. This moment was so sweet that all their problems just melted away. The kiss itself was so perfect. It was intense and went on and on (not something we have often got on BATB as far TOO MANY of their romantic moments were cut short). It also left me imagining what happened next, when they finally broke apart. What on earth do you say to a man who has just kissed you like that? I loved the moments in BATB that allowed our own imaginations to fill in these blanks. The gap between the end of AMP and the start of Insatiable was another example of this. How our minds went into overdrive trying to picture what went on in that warehouse. I'm blushing at the very thought of that.
Craziest fangirling/fanboy moment? As in what's the craziest thing you have done for batb?
I haven't really done anything that crazy as, living in England, I'm rather on the edge of things. I did vote multiple times in all the polls and did go to extreme lengths to try to see episodes that had been shown in Canada or the US because I knew that they wouldn't be on UK screens for a while and I just couldn't wait. I have also re-watched some of the episodes and scenes so many times that I know the dialogue off by heart. I could turn the sound down and say all the lines myself.
Happy with the ending? If you could write an alternate ending/season 5 what would it be?
I am actually quite happy with the ending of Season 4. I think our favourite couple have been given a chance to lead a normal life. I think Vincent can probably go a long time without beasting out and the fresh start Cat got as an advocate will allow the possibility of a quieter time for her too and it allows for a possible family in the not too distant future. You know, I do love this couple as if they were real people and the thought of the madness continuing to follow them around is not appealing either. I want to imagine them happy and settled, wherever that may be.
After watching the finale, what you predict the writers wouldve done batb season 5?
I think the writers knew that it was ending and wrote the last episode accordingly. I think if they knew that there was going to be a Season 5, we might have had some sort of cliff-hanger, one where maybe VinCat's joint survival was in doubt until the next season opens. I also think the Muirfield story may have carried on into Season 5.
Has watching BATB changed you in any way? Learnt anything from the show?
One negative is that the end of the show has left a void that I am struggling to fill. Other shows are better written and have better plots and big budgets but nothing effects me or moves me like this little show. I have a feeling that nothing will ever be as close to my heart again. In many ways, I am afraid to get so involved in another show as it coming to an end feels like the death of a friend. I think I am still grieving and I won't be able to answer this question properly until enough time has elapsed for me to stop.
Thoughts/comments on the series as a whole:
Even though my heart is quite literally broken, I do not regret the time I have spent watching and re-watching BATB. It has enriched me and provided so much entertainment. It's also restored my faith in love and the human condition.
Finally, to my fellow beastie brothers (BeastieBoy, especially you) and sisters (too numerous to name you all), I will miss talking to you all and discussing the finer points of our most beloved show. Things that you love are always so much better when they are shared and I have shared many happy hours, reading all your posts and giving you my own thoughts and feelings on the plots and episodes, silly and serious, happy and sad, tragic and triumphant. What a roller-coaster it has been, but all rides have to come to an end and I guess this one is no exception.

PIPPIN:
I love your plot for S5, but I would not want one of the leads to die at the end. That would NOT be a "tribute" to the original in the least, considering that Linda Hamilton was ultimately FIRED for being pregnant. Being back in the days of a network's being ABLE to fire a female actress SOLELY for being pregnant is NOT something to want to return to. Or something that you want to commemorate.
For those who don't know what I am talking about, Linda Hamilton originally just wanted less time on the set in S3 since she would have been pregnant/just delivered her first child--she had to be present at 4:00 a.m. EACH DAY while Ron spent four hours in the make-up chair transforming into Vincent. They (director, set) would use this time to have Linda film her above-ground scenes that Vincent didn't need to be in. But Linda would have to remain the entire filming day, so she actually spent far more time on her feet than Ron did. So Linda just asked to be able to arrive on set normal working hours. The showrunners wouldn't agree and fired her. For being pregnant and wanting time with her baby. Which they COULD do in that day. It wasn't until the Melrose Place actress sued Aaron Spelling for being fired because of her pregnancy that the law changed.
So killing Catherine off had NOTHING to do with the original design for the series. She had been fired, yet BATB had already been renewed for S3. Had Linda not gotten pregnant, Catherine would NOT have been killed off. And the series TANKED due to Linda's being gone. After all, HOW is it Beauty AND the Beast without one of the leads? And showing how "easily" it is to fall in love with someone else just RUINS the "EPIC LOVE" which drew all of us in to both series in the first place.
"Beauty and the Beast" is also supposed to be a Fairy Tale with a happy ending. If it is NOT going to be, then call it something else. Even the original series went with the tag line of "it's NOT a fairy tale anymore" for the theme for Season 3. And look how well THAT worked for them.
But otherwise, I like your Season 5 plan. Would make a WONDERFUL fanfiction story. But I still maintain that VinCat DESERVE their day in the sun and not just a brief time together that was mostly punctuated by misery and constantly having to defend the right to have a happy relationship. The ENDING makes the suffering WORTHWHILE. Which it wouldn't if one of them died.
But you ARE entitled to your own wished-for ending. Just please don't say it would be a "tribute" to the original series when the original series only killed off Linda Hamilton due to her pregnancy. Women's rights have come a long way since then, THANKFULLY!!!!

ALISON:
LOVE love love so many of your answers. You also described the EXACT feeling of grief that I am currently feeling over the loss of the show. It really IS like a member of my family has died. I'm still feeling like I will never get over it AND like I won't ever find a television show to compete with it or draw me in like BATB did.
YES, there are better written shows. Yet they don't have that PULL that VinCat just naturally exuded so powerfully. I'm watching both "Timeless" and "The Blacklist," but neither have that hold over me. I now rather find the "blacklist" outside the realm of conceivable. "Timeless" is intriguing. It reminds me of what I liked from the television show "Seven Days" and has that certain sci-fi quality that drew me to shows like "Fringe." And while they MAY go for a slow burn towards the leads falling for one another, neither Lucy nor the guy have that aura that KK or Jay have. "Fringe" is the only real comparison that I have to BATB. But I still don't recall feeling this complete since of LOSS when that show ended as I do now. I've been downright borderline depressed since BATB went off the air and feeling rather lost without a television show that I so looked forward to. Sigh.
Like you, there are certain episodes that I could mute the volume yet still quote the lines due to re-watching them so much. I am currently actually taking a break from BATB re-watches in order to come at them refreshed in November when we start the rewatches as a group. Will be interesting to see what I take from S3 and S4 since I have not felt the need to rewatch either of them beyond the S3 opener for the beginning and proposal, episode 8 due to KK's stunning and deeply-felt performance regarding her mother, and the wedding at the end. Since I now know that we aren't going to get those poignant and romantic VinCat scenes that we got in S1 (and some of S2), I can hopefully appreciate S3 and S4 for what they DID give us. And I was certainly glad to have VinCat still on my screen in ANY form. (Like others, though, I hated that VinCat had to be apart so much of S4.)
I STILL want that Seasno 5 where we COULD see VinCat together and see what became of their lives. And I am still VERY RESENTFUL to see "Arrow" getting a Season 5 because it started at the SAME time as BATB and is still going strong. AND it got 4 FULL SEASONS before this one, while only S1 & S2 of BATB had a full season's worth of episodes. What COULD S3 AND S4 have been had we gotten the 23 episodes for both seasons?
I still don't get why more people didn't discover BATB. Anyone that seems to watch it gets hooked. So WHY OH WHY did we have to have such low ratings? STILL don't get it. I still think it could have been saved IF the right people had handled it AND the network had given it more support. Sigh.
But like you, I feel this deep sense of loss with BATB gone. I want my VinCat perpetually on my television screen. Even knowing that the end was nigh still left me ill-prepared for the sheer amount of grief that happened after the airing of the last episode. I don't think I could ever love another series like I loved BATB. But they are saying that this IS a new "golden age" of television with so many networks committed to television series. But I haven't found that ANYTHING has even approached BATB. I guess only time will tell. . . .
(And I REALLY REALLY hope that Kristin DOES still act after finishing college. I would absolutely HATE to think that BATB was her last series. She is just so incredibly BELIEVABLE in any role that I have seen her in. I would DEFINITELY watch a series that she was connected to. I wonder if Netflix getting Smallville will influence her career choices/alternatives at all.)

One thing I really liked about JT&T is that everytime they broke up it was clear why they broke and where they are in the situation. They never cheated on each other. It was always something else that broke them rather than their lack of trust. In that matter I am angry that VinCat always separated because V broke Cat heart or cheated on her. Tess didn't sleep with other guy when she broke up with JT but still she was a strong woman. Don't know why Vincent and Cat had to sleep with other people when they broke up.
