I'm new to this thread and forum and for what it's worth, they had me at hello with this show. I think Alex is a plot device designed to delay the obvious (Vincat), as well as give them an opportunity to flesh-out Vincent's character. Having said that, I think they did some things very well in Seeing Red, and really made some big mistakes as well. On the one hand, I felt like Vincent and Cat made leaping strides emotionally, just not physically. I could see a great deal more vulnerability in the scene between Vincent and Cat at the beginning and especially at the end. I loved the scene at the end. It felt like he was ready to step across that threshold and lay it all on the line... Key mistakes, in my book, include the fact that Vincent was not immediately forthcoming regarding his relationship with Alex when he and Cat first talked about her, calling Cat his "handler" to Alex, and running around yelling for Alex, when he should have been worried about Cat too at the end. I also think the fact that Alex does not seem like-able at all is leading up to something significant... Regarding the Vincent/Cat scene at the end, I was pretty disappointed that they gave Cat the line "Not when you're with her" after Vincent said, "Hey that guy's not completely gone"... I mean, I get it that her walls were up after seeing the lip-lock, however, one doesn't have to have a lot of imagination to realize the kiss could have been initiated by Alex. Vincent looked pretty emotionally vulnerable to me with Cat, and while i can appreciate the fact that Cat can play hard ball, I felt like that particular line was pushing it a bit too far. I don't blame her for wishing she knew what he was like before, I just thought that particular line was a shot to the heart, like the old him was completely gone. I also think that there is more to this story than we have seen so far, guilt he feels over leaving Alex the way that he did, whatever happened after his brothers died... There may be a reason why he hasn't wanted to dump all that on Cat. Ultimately it may be about comfort, how comfortable is he talking about things that he may not be proud of in his past? It seems fitting to me that there is a woman from his past with whom he has unfinished business. After all, who wouldn't have unfinished business after hiding out and pretending to be dead for 10 years? My hope is that we learn more about Vincent's past, and that the anguish created by the Alex-storm brings Vincent and Cat closer together in the end.

Second you are spot on in all you said! I too thought the line of "Not when you're with her" was a low blow but I think she did it to get a reaction from him..to see if she could read in his face at that moment how he felt for Alex if anything.

The only question for me is: How and why Alex is leaving the picture? ? Any thought?

I think Vincent will see Catherine pulling bacfk making him realize what he will lose. He also has been putting her at risk. After almost dieing when she has to help him at the ice skate rink he will realize how risky that was.

I was just looking again at the episode photos released for 1.12 and 1.13 ( yes I'm starved for any BatB info!) and think its interesting that NONE of them include Alex, even though she's involved in both. Damage control?

Damage control? I think so...But then again maybe if they show pictures of Alex they will be giving too much info away?? I'm guessing the writers wanted to re-assure the fans they ticked off that in fact VinCat is very much alive and that Alex story will be minimal in the last two episodes of her arc with Vincent.

Damage control? Well, we certainly had enough pictures of Alex and "Vince" at the skating rink. About made me sick, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!
