Just a few things I hated -hated Gaberine No really I hated Gaberine ( I just hated how quickly she jumped into it and the fact that he was ever an option to her after everything hes done to her and Vincent) - I know Cat thought she was doing what was best for everyone, by pushing V to remember in the beginning episodes, but I hated how hard she was pushing him. She never gave him any real time to absorb anything and trust her on his own terms -hated how Tess was always pushing Cat into Gabe. I mean WTF? You saw too what he did to everyone -hated that Cat saw V save Tori over her -hated Tori taunting Cat in Held Hostages about their dates. -hated the scene in 212 when Tori came down the stairs in her bathrobe and the imply -hated that they made it look Cat was V's 2nd choice again after Tori died. (really wouldve loved to seen V kick her to the curb and actually choose Cat.) -hated that after the vincat convo in 212 at the end that Cat just decides she wants to be w/ Gabe -hated in 2x14 that despite knowing how Vincent feels about her, she uses him to try and bring down the beasts and sam -hated that Cat wore sexy night gown for Gabe, but is always in flannels for V - hated the way Cat talked to Vincent in the dungeon, and in the car scene in 215 (before the crash) she was so mean, and automatically told V pretty much that his way is not the way to do things and that basically Xavier doesnt matter -hated the way Gabe talked to Cat and belittled her and tried to control her and made her feel like she didnt have a voice -hated that Gabe was talking bad about V and beasts when he used to be a beast -hated the Gaberine kiss in 221. -hated that Agent Knox was killed And this isnt a particular scene, but i HATED how many times VinCat got interrupted when they were trying to get busy!

First off, let me say I'm really glad your worst list is shorter than your best list! I'm always one to focus on the positives vs. the negatives. However, the topic of Ancestors being despised by many and topping your worst episode list 3 times, led me to re-watch it again just now. I was really curious if I had gotten this episode wrong. This was only my second time watching it, I hadn't seen it since it originally aired. While it's far from my favorite episode, I liked it the first time I watched and still like it after a second viewing. Let me offer a counter view that might ease the pain you and others seem to feel about this episode. About the characters not being themselves. I felt that both Cat and Vincent were in denial, which led them to act the way they did, having not really gotten over each other. Vincent being an ass, well he was being an ass, but he was being a typical guy trying to put up a defense mechanism to not get hurt. Cat to me was trying to make Vincent jealous when she first kissed the brother of the gang leader, but like Vincent, I felt Cat was in denial and forcing herself to do things she normally wouldn't do to try and forget him. I actually really liked the bar scene, it had a Mr. & Mrs. Smith kind of sexual tension. I felt it showed the two were still in love, but again in denial and hence acting out of character on purpose. Most of the episode had that Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibe and sexual tension for me, even when Cat was holding the gun at Vincent again. There were points in the episode where their animosity towards each other could have quickly turned into passion in an instant. At least, that's the way I felt about it.
About Gabe, well that part I have to agree. The kiss at the end was yuck! But again, I felt that Cat was simply trying too hard to get over Vincent and that was the reason for her odd behavior. So while I didn't like the ending of the episode, I didn't hate it to the point where it ruined the rest of the episode for me. Amen! Yes! Thats exactly how I felt about VinCat after they broke up. From 2x09-2x14 there sexual tension was ridiculous! So many times I was just waiting for it to turn passionate and for them to start ripping their clothes off. Their fighting in these episodes were essential about nothing. They were picking fights with each other to hide the hurt they both felt over their breakup. And Cat was definitely trying to way too hard to get over V when she kissed Gabe. Their whole relationship was forced because Cat was always measuring Gabe up to Vincent and Gabe could never be Vincent I totally agree with your POV. That behaviour is not only applicable to Vincat but I have also seen it in the real world where some people come out of a serious relationship and quickly jump into a new relationship with someone they do not really care about, maybe in an effort to prove to themselves and the world that they are in control of their feelings and can move on. Usually in such cases people convince themselves that they are doing the right thing, at least for a while until they crush and burn before they come back to their senses. I see this as part of life and a learning experience.

I feel one of the biggest issues this season was lack of emotional follow up or follow through, in other words, writing issues. There wasn't enough emotional honesty and depth, and for me, that was truly out of character. I just felt a lack of commitment to characters examining themselves: what do I observe, what do I feel, what do I need and, therefore, how do I act. In general, the quest for Who am I? left me feeling unconvinced.....as always, I'm open to criticism...but please, don't shoot me! .....and I will always love BatB and VinCat!!!! I absolutely agree with this. IMO, the design of the season and the story arcs weren't bad at all, it had the potential to be awesome and parts of the season were awesome. But it was the execution of the writing and decisions made in certain episodes that made parts boring at a minimum and hard to accept/digest at the worst. You hit the nail on the head when you say there was lack of emotional honesty, depth and follow up. That really was the big missed opportunity throughout the season.

Okay, is it actually possible to have an episode be both a favorite for what it implies and yet an evil for what it shows? "Recipe for Disaster" is an episode I both love and hate. I get something different from it each time I watch it. So I will try to sum up why I actually still like watching this episode, while simultaneously still cringing at certain moments. So here goes.
The Scene: Cat hosting the cooking class. --Okay, why I like this scene. Tess is trying too hard to deny/ignore her (growing) attraction to JT by taking the class with Catherine to flirt with guys. She is so over the top that she really can't hope to get the guy that is obviously so taken with Cat. And Tess tries to push Cat into a relationship with Gabe (AGAIN! GRRRR. Okay, mini-rant over now.). Tess tells Cat that Gabe won't wait and that he is leaving the precinct and that Cat should just enjoy having someone to warm her bed at night. And Cat remains STRONG and says she doesn't need a relationship right now. (Love this. Hate Shallow Tess in this moment. She is giving bad relationship advice that hasn't made her too terribly happy either.)
So at this point, Cat recognizes (whether she will fully admit it or not) that she is still tied heavily to Vincent. And she is not willing to pursue a possibly meaningless relationship with Gabe, a man she has come to admire and appreciate because he seemingly has worked so hard for redemption (YES, I know, puke-worthy. I don't deny this myself. But Cat has an amazing capacity to forgive. And we ARE grateful for this, because she ultimately forgives Vincent, too, even though he did some truly despicable things this season.).
CUE NEXT SCENE which is the VinCat phone call. --Cat nearly burns her apartment down JUST to talk on the phone to Vincent. And we see how EASY it is, how free-flowing the conversation goes. How they can just ELEVATE one another's mood in an instant. They can work together well. Even though I actually hate the song, cue Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."
Vincent SO DESPERATELY wants Cat in his life. He wants to PROTECT CAT from Dana and doesn't want Cat in trouble for protecting and covering for him at the precinct. He knows Dana won't let the subject drop, SO CAT IS HIS PERSON to talk to about how they will proceed. Vincent won't do anything or plan anything without Catherine (UNLIKE TORI, as we see in this scene AND the scene at JT's. Vincent basically sees Tori as useless by this time and doesn't even clue her in to any of the plans, unlike "Held Hostages" where Tori was part of the ambush at the boathouse at the beginning. Vincent has already begun EDGING TORI OUT of his life in favor of Catherine. SO I LIKE THIS SCENE FOR WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT THE WOMEN IN VINCENT'S LIFE and how he REALLY feels about them.) I also like where Cat says that she is cooking at the beginning of the call AND HOW VINCENT obviously REMEMBERS that cooking is something that Cat just can't (or shouldn't) do. And he jokes with Cat who tells him to "be nice" while grinning happily, obviously lost to former memories. (I guess Vincent basically cooked or prepared things for past rooftop picnics!)
Again, CUE THE DISLIKE in the scene at the same time it is one of my fav scenes of Season 2: during the phone call, Vincent states that he has taken/chosen "a different path" to Cat, right or wrong, and that once the gem thing is done, so are they. They can lead separate lives again. BUT Vincent does not mean this in a hurtful manner as in "Ancestors." Vincent means that Catherine can finally be done with Beasts and covering for him. AND WE SEE CAT wince visibly at being separated from Vincent. SO WE KNOW that Cat is holding onto the relationship AND building on this new "friendship" with Vincent. SO EVEN THOUGH I ONCE AGAIN DON'T LIKE VINCENT'S actual WORDS, how said words affect Catherine let me know how SHE really feels.
And how the phone call ends. When the alarm goes off in the background, Vincent is quick to worry about Catherine and WANTS to come over. Cat reassures him as it was because of her cooking skills (or lack thereof). Vincent is back into "protect Catherine" mode.
CUE DISLIKE PART in that Tori comes down from the bedroom in a robe. STILL LOVE THIS SCENE for all that it implies. Tori just KNOWS Vincent has been on the phone with Catherine again. And she lets US know that Vincent has been sneaking OUT OF BED each night to CALL CATHERINE. And just what do you think this means? Seriously? Even when he is having sex with Tori, he can't help but think of Cat. Because he wants to just roll over, get the heck away from Tori, and go call the person he actually REALLy wants to be with.
And Tori says that she is afraid that Vincent wants to go back to Catherine. AND VINCENT CAN'T DENY IT!!! Jay plays this so well on his face. The LOOK says it all: he really DOES want Cat back. He doesn't comfort Tori. He just DEFLECTS and says that he wants to get the gem back and how Catherine is covering and protecting them both (meaning him and Tori). And Tori just calls it as we all see it that Cat is just doing what she does TO HELP VINCENT.
Cue the scene at JT's. Again, Tori sees how out of place she is with the gang and that she hasn't been clued in on everything, even though she lives with Vincent. CATHERINE knows everything because Vincent TELLS HER everything. LOVE THIS. LOVE THIS. HA HA TORI!! IN YOUR FACE!! (Sorry, had to add that.)
So Tori storms out. Obviously hoping Vincent will follow. And he does. Yet she can't draw him back in. She says she is losing him and can't stop it. And Vincent says he wants time apart because the Big Oaf has finally realized that Tori's power affects his judgment. (Although not enough, obviously, as Vincent can rebuff her now finally. Catherine has already taken back what is HERS even if she and even Vincent don't fully recognize this yet.) So LOVE the Tori REJECTION scene. (JUST WISH Catherine had seen this to know how Vincent really feels. It is the fact that Catherine DOESN'T know about this that causes her to go with Gabe by the end of this episode. Tragic. And vomit inducing, I fully admit.)
CUE Scene I love: Cat giving Vincent relationship advice. Vincent realizing, again, how much Catherine had to put up with from him, even in Season 1. Vincent pushed Cat away because he wanted to protect her in Season 1. And Cat just figures this is why Vincent is pushing Tori away. So she encourages him to talk to Tori because Cat acknowledges that her history with Vincent MAKES HER STILL CARE for Vincent and that they are friends. And Vincent can't stop himself from asking Cat if that is all they are, just friends? AND CAT fails to understand that what Vincent really wants to know is if Cat still carries a torch for him. Cat thinks that Vincent is asking her if they are comfortable enough to be friends and so she replies that friends is "better than being enemies." But it is clear that Vincent VALUES Cat's judgment and counsel, and the two have to visibly pull away from each other and disengage as the others are waiting on them to put their plan into motion. LOVE THIS SCENE for all it says (and doesn't say) about Vincent and Catherine. Cat still loves him enough to WANT for him to be happy with Tori. And Vincent knowing he really couldn't be happy with Tori. And wanting Catherine back already. It is just THERE in the way Jay plays the scene.
Ultimately, this episode had what I HATED THE MOST through its ending: Cat sees Vincent mourning Tori in the cell and assumes that he really is over her and had moved on with Tori. And Cat is heartsick, and because of her pain and wanting to be over the person SHE THINKS is over her, she commits to giving a relationship a try with Gabe. So while I HATE what happens because of the Tori death-scene, I LOVED that it showed that Cat was only going with Gabe to try to get over Vincent. Which meant she was REALLY still holding onto Vincent. Neither wants to let the other go. That is so PAINFULLY obvious in this episode.
So yeah, while "Recipe for Disaster" does not make my Top 10 list of the season, it actually does make my Top 15. Of course, that is also because "Ancestors," "Guess Who is Coming To Dinner?," "Father Knows Best," "Man Or Beast," "Don't Die On Me" are such wretched affairs for me that I just can't tolerate them even when they show the VinCat connection is REALLY still there under the surface. Just couldn't find enough redemption in those episodes to justify suffering through them more than twice. So "Recipe for Disaster" practically makes it on the Top 15 for the season list for me by default. And I guess that is what REALLY REALLY bothers me about Season 2: you actually have episodes that you have to like for what they are trying to transition to. I did not have that with Season 1 episodes outside of the Alex-arc. And even with the Alex episodes, I still LOVED "Cold Turkey" for its humor, JT/Evan moments, and realizations about how much stronger and better Cat was then Alex. And Vincent voiced there, too, that he was a donkey's waste-hole. So even he knew he had just made the stupidest choice (to date--Season 2 kind of blew all that away). Wish he could have remembered that Season 2. Sigh. So yeah, liked "Recipe for Disaster."
Oh yeah, and Tori finally dies. Can't help it. I loved that. I wanted her dead, just like I wanted Gabe dead. Can't believe a tv show can so make you yell "JUST DIE ALREADY" at your screen so much. Actually feel bad as a person that I wanted it so much. But there it is. And Tori has the gem on, so she actually has some reason in her death moment and realizes that Vincent always did and does belong with Cat.

And if no one has yet guessed it (even though from previous posts, it is probably by now obvious), my MOST HATED EPISODE from ANY season of BatB is "Ancestors." I can't even pretend to like it or justify it. I don't care if the writers were trying to do "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." Vincent basically leaves Cat to potentially die in the embassy. Over a gem. Over nothing. I don't even need to see the rest of the episode. That ALONE would make me hate the thing. Vincent is so far gone that he would let Cat be taken by Russians? Seriously? Since she is on "Russian soil," Catherine would have not just been allowed to die. She would have been sold into human trafficking, after having been tortured. Yeah, Catherine somehow makes it out. But she can't blur. And she could have easily enough died since Vincent already took out half of the team coming in with her. And Catherine had SAID she was undercover. With obviously no back-up that can help her. So Vincent leaving her to die just won't ever sit well with me. His rage WAY overtakes any potential "passion" that might be floating around under the surface. Vincent would probably have even harmed Cat himself if she had gotten to the gem before him. Vincent is unrecognizable and so is Cat. Every single scene rubs me wrong. Every. Single. One. Yes, they are mad. So frustratingly overwhelmingly mad. And Cat is hurt. And we all know that Cat doesn't do well with hurt. Or anger. But still. I can find no justifiable reason to like this episode. I know others like the episode for the "heist." Seriously? THAT part appeared to me to be poorly written as well. I just couldn't get into it or care. Not with the characters being the way they were. And Gabe? He nearly got Cat killed and would never be able to handle Cat's job requirements in the future. Showed AGAIN why you shouldn't date your boss. Didn't ANYONE learn anything from the whole Tess/Joe debacle? Unprofessionalism anyone? And Cat doesn't even APPEAR to think of this, just kisses Gabe in the precinct?
And Cat being unable to forgive Vincent? Seriously? After what all Gabe did, she forgave him because she saw the good that he was capable of doing. So I could appreciate Cat's capacity to forgive. But here? There just seems more of a capacity to hate. I just didn't see how ANYONE could come back from as bad as "Ancestors" got. Passion? Seriously? HE LEFT HER TO DIE IN THAT EMBASSY! That is not passion there. That is hate. And the worst kind. For someone HE HAS to know does NOT deserve the fate that he left her to!
Sorry, but I can go on and on to infinity about why I hated "Ancestors." I will maintain that there is NO redeeming value in its conception, inception, or even in the costumes/leather/whatever that everyone wore. Yes, Jay is normally hot to me in a suit. NOT here. Vincent just seems sleazy and utterly foreign and unredeemable to me. The fact that I couldn't even ADMIRE the suit on him just says it all to me. Ack. Ick. You get my point. All I saw was EVIL in this episode. I didn't need to see how low my favorite characters could sink.
So I am glad that some of you can get through "Ancestors." Maybe even enjoy it. You will never find a way to convince me on this one. I'm ENTIRELY with VinCat 3.0 on this one. "Ancestors" would probably fill up the first FIVE of my Top 10 Worst Episodes of Any Show EVER list, let alone BATB. It was like the writers just pushed the Gabe/Catherine thing in our faces from "Ancestors" onward just in order to say that they COULD make it worse. But they just couldn't. Everything I disliked the most from Season 2 could be found in this episode with none of the redeeming qualities that I look for. Okay, I am done now. Glad to have gotten THAT out of my system. Sorry if I ranted too much, particularly if some of you enjoyed that episode. But I just can't. Hope I explained why.

Sorry if I ranted too much, particularly if some of you enjoyed that episode. But I just can't. Hope I explained why. I hated 'Ancestors' for many, many reasons but I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that Vincent left Cat to die in the Russian Embassy or to be sold into trafficking. She was never in danger of that. She seemed to get out without any trouble as did the guy she was flirting with for whole the episode. Vincent was not after the gem for it's value but as a key to unlocking the mystery of the collar and therefore, his past. As a beast, it is not surprising that he is a little sensitive about such things as the idea of anyone putting a leash around his neck and trying to control him must be horrifying.
I think they were both in denial. Vincent was angry with Cat for (as he thought) choosing her father over him and shooting him. Cat was still angry with Vincent for choosing his beast side over their relationship. Their little spat at the bar appears to show they hate each other but as we know, love and hate are two sides of the same coin. They still love each other but are too angry with each other to admit it. In the very next episode, Vincent saves firstTess and then Cat at the precint so the real Vincent is not that far under the surface.
On a completely different subject or episode, I recently watched redemption again and was shocked by how cold Cat was trying to appear towards Vincent (again probably caused by Gabe jibes about Vincent being a beast and never being able to change and her father saying she needs to kill Vincent). In the hospital Vincent says he is surprised she called him to help but she says it was Gabe's idea and she just wants to find out what Sam is up to and get it over with. When Vincent is happy after meeting his old mentor she chides him for not using his influence with the guy to get into the isolation ward. Then, worst of all, when he is desparate to save the 'wrong' Jacob Sutter's life, she says he needs to leave that to the REAL doctors and use his beast side to find the other Jacob. What a '<edited>' she is in that episode. Vincent IS a real doctor. How dare she. I'm glad JT puts her straight and tells her Vincent is trying to go beast cold turkey and it's she who keeps dragging him back down again. It's unforgivable, especially as that's the reason they broke up in the first place.

Worst/Least Liked Episodes 205, 206, 207, 210, 213, 214, 218 * there isnt one episode that I hated. These episodes I didnt really care for mostly because of the pace of the episodes and/or some things just seemed too off in the episodes, or that sometimes they couldve maybe done more w/ the episode than they did. I did love some moments in each of these episodes, but as a whole they didnt do anything to tickle my fancy What didn't you like about 218? I thought it was great! Best parts were Cat smacking Gabe across the face after telling him to 'clear the room' and Tess finally choosing the right side. Gabe is shown up for the petty-minded snitch he is and is made to look foolish when Tess and JT outwit him with the fake CCTV feed. Vincent is very decisive too in this episode. He decides he is NOT going to run anymore and leave Cat behind. He wants to stay and fight for their right to be together. Love the scene on the roof at the end when Vincent says he is nothing but trouble and the music is great too - Out of the Scenery.

After the rush we got from 2x17 and how amazing episode that one was, this episode just seemed off, a bit out of place compared to the 217, 219, 220, 221, 222 and 218 imo was bit boring to me. I think it could've been written a little better. There were things/little moments that I loved about the episode like Cat slapping Gabe, the rooftop kiss between VinCat and their convo. Their convo in the dungeon, Vincent/JT & Tess convo in the diner, the kiss at the UN. But overall as a whole episode, I thought that their were other episodes that were better written and stirred more emotions/feelings in me.
I don't hate any episodes. There isn't one episode that I wont watch. I just prefer other episodes over these ones.

What didn't you like about 218? I thought it was great! Best parts were Cat smacking Gabe across the face after telling him to 'clear the room' and Tess finally choosing the right side. Gabe is shown up for the petty-minded snitch he is and is made to look foolish when Tess and JT outwit him with the fake CCTV feed. Vincent is very decisive too in this episode. He decides he is NOT going to run anymore and leave Cat behind. He wants to stay and fight for their right to be together. Love the scene on the roof at the end when Vincent says he is nothing but trouble and the music is great too - Out of the Scenery. I didn't dislike episode. I'm just more indifferent about it. Hmmmm not me, there's a bunch I hated on S2 the ones with with vin & tori cat & gabe, vincat hating each other, cheating part..I can go on, I've only seen the episodes I hated ones & I have no intentions in rewatching them. Some are really traumatic, too painful to go back and rewatch. On the other hand I dont mind rewatching all of S1 ..hehe

I didn't like the cheating, or vincat at odds, but I love depth & range of the actors especially Jay & KK in some of those episodes. I really felt like I was the one losing the one I love, that it was me going through it. The emotions & feelings I had during certain episodes were so raw and real. I felt like it was exactly what we should be feeling for that episodes. And like I said before I don't like vincat apart, but I loved them working their way back to each other. I loved even some of their fights because their pull & chemistry between them is so strong that I was waiting in 210 for their at odds to turn into passion lol

That's kinda what I mean. The vincat break up kinda had a purpose thus season. Yes vincat need to find themselves separately without each other before coming back together. But it was executed so badly IMO with who they chose for Vincat to "try" and move on with and how they presented everything to us on screen. I'm okay with certain scenarios of a vincat break up if it's told properly and has an underlying point to why it has to happen and not just something for the plot to move forward or a cause and affect type thing to make things a bit more interesting. And IMO the S2 vincat break up had a purpose, but it's purpose got lost in how they presented the things that happened afterward their break up ie Tori/ Gabe.
