I have sat on this one for a while--and you can put me in front of the crazy line for does this bother you. YES IT DOES!! I certainly tweeted my objections to the writers and JR as soon as they started having Vincent call Catherine, Cat. I do not like it at all, my ears exploded every time I heard it--what a waste of a beautiful voice. Catherine is worthy of a beautiful sonnet. Cat is a Dr. Suess Book. Romeo did not call Juliet, Jules... and so on. For me epic romance and nicknames do not go together. Vincent and Catherine sound beautiful together, Vincent and Cat not so much. This is Beauty and the Beast not 90210 where little names between lovers probably worked fine (guessing, never watched it). For those of you that like the details. Playing With Fire (13:54) times on itunesVincent and JT in alley-Vincent refers to Catherine as Cat for the first time (30:08)Vincent calls JT and asks him to track down Cat Ok--I didn't like these but could have lived with it--he was not speaking to her directly. Date Night (39:35) Calls her Cat to her face for the first time by dumpster explaining why he took pill Never Turn Back (20:38)Calling out her name looking for her in her apt (21:05)Speaking to her via Gabe's phone I had read that JR had requested Vincent be the one character that always call her Catherine, not Cat. I thought that was a smart artistic choice. I wish I understood the artistic choice to change that direction. -He wants to be normal... They want to get the young twitter crowd that would call her Cat...I don't know. The ship has sailed, I am still a fan... but I don't think it is very poetic and I imagine I will never like it. jmo and now I will shut up on the subject. Actually, he refers to Catherine as 'Cat' for the first time in 'Basic Instinct' at approx. 08:20. He says to JT "You're gonna give yourself an ulcer. I'm gonna go help Cat." I'm not a big fan of the 'Cat' thing, either. Her full name should always be what he calls her to her face. I don't mind if he refers to her as Cat to others or when it's too intense/not enough time for her full name, such as 'Never Turn Back'. But 'Date Night'? No excuse. Should. Never. Happen. Again.

Exploring my way around these pages is way too interesting - and finding people sharing my niggles with the show, amazing.
I am on a "stop disrespecting your devoted audience" thing at the minute, having just so recently "swan dived" off the sanity cliff and into BATB space.
How dare the writers/producers devalue the significance of Catherine's name to Vincent by turning into a text message - and why would they be so dismissive of the powerful connotations that Jay Ryan's performance lends to the episodes when he uses his amazing vocal skills - just how he utters her name speaks volumes and carries the emotion needed depending on the scene.
Watch how often they permit Catherine to use her voice and his name to calm Vincent in beast mode - quite often beautifully acted and lightly directed - obviously have never heard of the concept of consistency
I just dont get why the executives responsible for this show can be oblivious to the massive strength of acting skills they have in place.
