I think they were signalling the metaphor of "the Beast within", much more of a problem for Gabe than it ever could be for Vincent.

Saw this ep and I haven't had the chance to say how I loved it! I really liked the whole ep and the Heather's return.... love that finally she knows the truth, best moment was when Vincent beasted out in front of her and she screamed twice LOVE LOVE LOVE this moment! and the tear in Cat's face when the bomb blew and Vincent showed up only a few seconds after that, Cat was afraid that he didn't make it GREAT EP EDIT: Loved the sis moment/chat at the end... Cat and Heather finally honest to each other

pippin , since you have some scripts available and have shared a lot of insider information with us, I have a question for you. Can you explain to me why from episode 218 Cold Case through 221 Operation Fake Date, there is a huge mistake running like a red thread though those 4 episodes. Everybody keeps saying that Gabe kidnapped Heather and that Heather should come forward and file a report on him. Gabe told Tom Sheckman Heather's name and he also told him where he might find her (Selina's), but Gabe DID NOT KIDNAP Heather, Tom Sheckman and his goons kidnapped Heather. Vincent and Catherine assume that Gabe must have been involved, but they have no proof and Heather definitely never saw Gabe lay a hand on her, so what exactly is she supposed to report to the police? I was wondering if maybe there was an earlier script where Gabe DID kidnap Heather himself and that never got cleared up in the latter episodes or maybe he was there at Selina's and it got edited out? Or whatever, but in the final version it is just not correct that he kidnapped Heather. Every time I do a re-watch – and I do those a lot – it bugs the hell out of me and I ask myself where these many producers are earning their money, because nobody noticed this mistake.

BBATB:
Amen and THANK YOU. I, also, have had the same questions. Heather never even reported her kidnapping originally. Where is even the proof that she was kidnapped at all? No one saw it or reported it. And there was an explosion and dead bodies to be explained. Heather, quite frankly, could be charged by having NOT come forward to report what happened so that it could be properly investigated.
While Cat and Company KNOW who had to have tipped Shenkman off, there is no proof. (I have always assumed that Cat was going by the phone call from Heather and Shenkman where it is all but confirmed that Gabe provided the information. And while the tip-off might arguably have put Heather at risk, Shenkman chose to act, not Gabe. And with Shenkman dead, there is no tie or proof against Gabe.) Gabe basically admits to being the reason Heather was put at risk to Catherine, but by that time, Cat would have had no leverage to report it herself, and Gabe would have denied it in an official inquisition.
And Heather filing a "report" where she, the supposed kidnapped victim, is the only one alive and several strong men are dead and can't answer for what they did, would just seem to throw suspicion on Heather. I mean, how would she explain getting out on her own? Especially wearing stolen property. More likely, people would assume that Heather made up the story to explain why she ran off in an unpaid-for dress that gets extensively damaged. (Again, I'm assuming Cat paid the store for the dress when so that her sister wouldn't be charged with a crime!) Vincent certainly can't testify that he "sensed" Heather's kidnapping, followed her, and helped Tess and Cat kill the perpetrator and his crew!
This episode is another result of having too little time to cover too much that has to happen. My assumption has always been that there was MORE to the scene in the office between Gabe and Shenkman that never made it to filming OR was lost on the editing room floor due to time constraints. Shenkman most likely recorded his "business dealings" to have leverage, or witnesses saw Gabe leaving his office, etc. Even THAT is not enough for a court conviction without direct ties to the crime or a confession.
THAT is a DVD set that I would pay a lot to see---the writers and others explaining what the original intent was or earlier drafts were that covered these things. I STILL don't know what Heather could report to the precinct. There isn't even enough evidence for her to get a restraining order against Gabe, unless there were other things that happened offscreen that weren't discussed or referred to in the final episode cut due to time.

I love that we are on the same page here. Every time I hear somebody pressuring Heather to file a report, I scream at my tv screen: What the hell is she going to say? Oh, there were these goons who kidnapped me right out of the store, then they cuffed me to a rock in this dark damp dungeon then my sister's boyfriend Vincent Keller, you know the fugitive - who by the way is a beast - came to rescue me Tom Sheckman looked us both into the dungeon and planted a bomb Vincent Keller beasted out and broke my cuffs and then he busted the dungeon door before the bomb went off In the meantime my sister and her partner Tess killed Tom Sheckman and his two goons Later we all dumped the bodies in an alley I only saw Mr. Lowan once while I was visiting the precinct looking for my sister and I told him about Selina's so, HE MUST have been the one to rat me out to Mr. Sheckman! Proof? No, I don't have any proof and no, I did not see or hear Mr. Lowan talk to Mr. Sheckman What do you mean we are all under arrest now? Yeah, I can see that going down really smoothly.
