I think the whole question of Aaron's age and why he didn't recognize Vincent could have been avoided if the writers had made Daniel his father. In Tough Love, William's headstone says "Husband, Son, Brother" so he was married at the time of his death but since the word "Father" isn't included, one can assume that he didn't have any children. Since Daniel's headstone wasn't shown, Daniel could have been a father but maybe he and Aaron's mother could have gotten divorced when Aaron was 6 sometime between 1997-1999, and maybe the mother and son moved out of the area for a while.

That could be a good excuse. So many things could justify Aaron's age, but the writers did what they always do, ignoring that we aren't stupid and that we can count.
