My least favorite episode of the season so far. It's not what I had hoped for at all. You are not alone... I was kind of disappointed too. Mostly because of Cat's behavior (she was too obsessed, stubborn for my taste), too much "humor" scenes, lack of atention with JT and the last scene. After so much "humor" and "couple fights" I was expecting more intense and emotional scene in the end of the episode. It's not that I wanted to see them in a more "hot"scene. I really wanted a deep dialogue or a more passionate scene between Vincat. Like someone said they spent more time in JT/Tess scene than in Vincat scene. And I really don't want them to trasform Vincat in a "comic couple". Like I have said before I want some drama, passionate scenes and real danger! I want to scream and cry! But I did not give up yet and I hope the two next episodes will fix this.

I did a brief review of 301, but was unable to write anything for 302-304 because I just could not understand the direction the writers were taking. Most beasties seemed happy with the episodes, so I did not want to say anything negative. (I feel happy when my fellow beasties are happy, even when I am not seeing what they are seeing.) I am relieved to see that I am not alone with regards to this episode, which I did not like either. I am with you BeastieBoy and lovebatb. Every episode has had some great scenes that I have thoroughly enjoyed, but overall, most of the episodes so far have left me feeling rather mystified. I keep saying to myself: Who are these people on my screen??? They look like Vincent and Catherine...but they are not them...To me, we are getting caricatures of the real thing, and I want the real thing! it's as if they are usurpers, pretending to be VinCat, and at times, for some brief seconds, they get it right, but the rest of the time, they fail to fool me. Do not get me wrong, I will love BatB forever, it just isn't easy at the moment. I agree with anapi -season3baby :), the promo for 305 looks promising and, yes, I am excited...which scares me a little.

I really don't like all the exposition in BATB episodes. This episode was almost entirely exposition. :) The counselor session is so contrived and just a platform to launch the flashbacks (more exposition) from. The only reason to include this is to attract new viewers. Do TPTB still think that's a possibility? :)
Everyone is just reading their lines in many of these scenes. "Caricatures of the real thing" is an excellent description locaxbatb.
I'm just not getting it. Some fun stuff mixed in though.....as usual. Very enigmatic TV show, but the "magic" is gone.
One of the members here commented to me offline the other day that "the rawness and realness of the show is no longer there." I agree with that completely. In spite of other issues, S1 had a magic quality to it that hasn't existed since. If you've experienced this in real life you know what I'm talking about.
BATB now has aspects of a sitcom. :)

After watching it several times I LIKE IT !! It was a tender EPISODE AND TOOOO SWEET Holding hands and saying I LOVE YOU and ALL THAT See ''The Kellers'' struggle with their problems ... it made me see them as a real couple, even though they are not a common couple (beast issues ). Seeing a therapist is a sign that care about their relationship, at first I was annoyed to see her obsessive with cases, but remember she always tries to help others no matter what, It is part of her.. and her instinct. I feel bad for JT.. alone with his concerns The episode was TOOOO DARK AGAIN From what I've read some have not been connected to the story so far. but I see them as a mature love... becoming a solid couple...do not misunderstand me!! I want additional hot scenes ,, but I understand they are in another stage of the relationship....

I agree with anapi -season3baby :), the promo for 305 looks promising and, yes, I am excited...which scares me a little. i agree with you and what you say as u know. the episode was fun and I did initially get excited cause it gave me feels (compared to episodes 3 and 2) but the ew guy summed it up pretty well in his review and ultimately this is how I feel about this season so far, quoting him "Above I mentioned that the search for April’s heart was a nice metaphor for Vincent and Cat’s relationship struggles. I also think it’s a solid metaphor for this season’s larger issues. Since disposing of Gabe and Muirfield, and since Vincent and Cat got engaged, the show has struggled to find its heart, the thing that gives it life. There’s no beating pulse this year, no tension or dramatic stakes. Much of the third season so far has felt stale, the show spinning its wheels. With Vincent and Cat’s relationship issues, it feels like the show is manufacturing conflict; it doesn’t feel natural to the characters, to the Vincent and Cat we’ve known for two seasons. The marriage counselor tells them that they’re co-dependent, that they’ve lost part of their individual selves. That may excuse some of the contrived conflict in this season—they need to argue and bicker in order to show the flaws of their relationship—but for the most part, that’s a convenient way to write off the out-of-character interactions between Vincent and Cat that have plagued the early part of this season. Despite its promising season premiere, which signaled a way forward for the show by focusing on character relationships, Beauty and the Beast is stagnating as of late. “Heart of the Matter” is a fun thriller, but it’s not much more. Here’s hoping that with eight episodes to go Beauty and the Beast can find its footing before it’s too late." pretty much sums it up for me. as I said I enjoyed the episode more than 2 or 3 but this is not what I am ultimately looking for in this show

When the episodes start showing us how the characters are feeling instead of telling us, I will be a happy camper. Writers need to lighten up on Catherine's dialogue....she has verbal diarrhea, at times.

Totally agree with you too, on all your points. Oh and that's exactly how I felt about the counselling session - just there for the flashbacks. Apart from the actor, who was terrific, the whole counselling thing really irritated me.

My least favorite episode of the season so far. It's not what I had hoped for at all. I want to know more lol Oh and to make u feel better the ep5 trailer looks very promising and very different from ep4 The trailer for 305 at the end was probably the most exciting part of 304 for me. LOL! Nick Roman's review captures pretty well how I felt about this episode. I also agree with many of the points raised by lovebatb, @locaxbatb, and @dave. While S3 is definitely different from S1 or S2, I was really enjoying the comic book action fun of eps 1, 2, and 3. I thought 303 was a terrific episode. I couldn't wait for this episode, as I thought it would build on the momentum of ep3. I had high hopes with a title like "Heart of the Matter" that we would finally start to unravel the mystery behind the experiments and the season would kick into high gear or take an unexpected twist. I had expected that perhaps a real danger or threat to VinCat would start to emerge. I got none of that. Instead this episode was yet again very different. The case of the week reminded me of an early S1 case of the week kind of episode but without the VinCat magic. Instead of epic love, there was epic arguing. All the jibber-jabber and Cat's pushy behavior was a real turn off for me. I know I'm in the minority in that I like Ancestors. That episode had VinCat at odds with each other too, but I felt their banter had raw sexual tension and a sexual energy that I did not feel here. In this episode the arguing just left knots in my stomach. This is not the VinCat I want to see. Moreover, I was very disappointed that the rich guy in need of a heart was just a bit player in the case of the week. Having learned from those who followed the original '80s show that the actor was the original Gabe Lowen, I also had high hopes for his character. I thought the heart was going to transform him into another evil superhuman and that he'd have some kind of role moving forward. That didn't happen either. It's not like I hated this episode. It had its good moments too. But I felt this episode was so different from anything I've seen before and didn't really add much to the developing story of S3.

After now reading through all the posts from others, I just want to add that the quality and brightness of this episode was just fine to me. I always watch the CW's broadcast version in HD. So for those who felt it was too dark, the difference is likely the quality of whatever else is out there on the internet.

Although the end scene could have been a bit brighter LOL
