Okay, I understand about beast= bad for Zach and G., but how does that apply to Vincent? He was beast = good and doing the right thing helping people those 10 years while hiding from M. and before he re-met Catherine. What he did in Afganistan might have been because he was in the company of other beasts or maybe he - and the others - just did not have a grip on their condition yet. He DID save Vanessa's life over there toward the end, so maybe he was starting to manage his beast.
Then Bob made him 'bad' through brainwashing him and he was killing other beasts without remorse, but that also changed again once Catherine and her influence over him came back into his life. He said that it bothered him to kill beasts more than before = still beast, but on the way back to 'good'.
Then came the next change in this roller coaster S2.
Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought that he only went further to the beastside, because Tori was the catalyst to push him over to the 'dark' side. His ultra agressive behavior started when she came onto the scene. And it seems - although they did not do a good job of showing us just HOW he did it - that he was able to overcome her influence even before she removed herself by dying. So, I think he was never really bad deep inside.
As to G. I think he was just bad through and through. I never bought into his sob story that he spun to Catherine about being a Guinea Pig and being abused. Yes, I am sure that was bad, but if he had 'good' in him some part of that should have survived. He had pills that kept him in human shape most of the time and he was in human shape when he and Tyler planned on killing Vincent = premeditated murder. Vincent had no pills, but he NEVER planned on killing anybody in order to save HIS life. So - for me - G. is bad through and through and getting rid of the beast was not enough to make him 'good' for good. He was kinda okay in the beginning, but very soon his nastiness and his dictating and controlling side was coming back.
And as for setting Catherine up to forgiving him: THAT was actually not even my issue, my issue was how could she EVER FORGET what he did. That little flashback she had was ridiculous and just not enough - it should have haunted her much more. And the fact that she had to 'grovel' for his forgiveness, because she DARED to have that flashback was utterly unacceptable! This whole G. redemption - and in consequence Catherine WANTING to have a relationship with him at any cost - did not work for me AT ALL.
