I saw people were talking about Gabe & Tori (here, or was it another thread?). Here's what I generally think about the love triangles on BatB First of all, let me just say (or "clarify" ) that really like Sendhil. Just to avoid misunderstandings… As for introducing new potential love interests for Vincent and Cat, I think they messed up the whole plot. Ideally, there wouldn't have been any love triangles; but as some (including our lovely KK) have said before it’s The CW. It's inevitable! So I guess we should have been kind of prepared mentally. I, for one, wasn't! In my opinion, love triangles work best when the audience can’t tell who wins the battle in the end. I am semi-familiar with TVD (thanks to my teenage and twenty-something students) - You can never tell which brother the female lead will end up with. Now, it’s very different with BatB obviously. Firstly, no chemistry even comes close to that between Jay & KK (to make it believable, that is); secondly, the show’s title says it all: “Beauty and The Beast”. So we know they’re meant to be. No surprise ending here! Clearly, I don’t even want clothes between VinCat, let alone other people. However, I would have been much happier if they had written these plots (V/T & C/G) differently, with different people. I think people know I LOVE Daddy Reynolds as an antagonist. But they wanted more force on the villain side – fine! I’m not against it at all. Actually I think when the baddie is emotionally/romantically invested in the protagonist, the story will be much more unpredictable, therefore more intriguing – because emotions can get in the way! Now, Evan, for instance, could have easily replaced Gabe/Catherine romance plot. He had the potential of becoming a plausible baddie. The Fab4 (oh how I miss this!) had fooled him for a long time; he was into Cat, and she had shown some interest early in season one too. His character, despite the little air time, was relatively well written. They killed him off! Okay, how about an ex showing up from nowhere? A new colleague maybe? You name it! Many possible characters. As many have already said, Gabe's character is not convincing enough. His character’s progression/growth has a zigzag pattern. I know in order to keep characters real and relatable, they have to be flawed obviously – and I love it! But getting romantically involved with Gabe was totally out of character for Cat. Even if you make mistakes, they have traces of your personality in them, right? Now, as for Tori arc; I have issues with it regardless of its romance part. Okay, Tori was a beast and maybe they deal with their parents’ murder differently? But for God’s sake! That guy ripped your dad’s heart out in cold blood right in front of you! And then you want him to promise you a future? I mean I totally expected her to vow revenge for her dad’s death. Obviously, that didn't happen. It was just preposterous! When characters are not written and developed properly (regardless of how much screen time they have), you fail to connect with them and their story lines. Did I like the Alex arc? No! But at least I could justify it for myself. I could see why she wanted V back. Did I want Evan with Cat? No! But if he hadn't been killed off and Cat chose to be with him, I could understand it. Personally, I found both V/T & C/G relationships implausible. Just my humble opinion of course! Sorry if I sound incoherent, and if I'm not making any sense. Okay, my rant's over! I'm actually REALLY optimistic about the rest of season 2 and season 3
Yeah we we're talking about this is the BATB season 3 renewal thread. You make some good points. You are right on the aspect of the love triangle and how they could of brought an ex or someone. I actually and imam go in hiding after saying this lol but I liked Patrick. Having a love triangle with Gabe was kinda odd considering he did try to kill V and kidnapped Cat, and he didn't care who he had to kill to save himself. But they did pursue the hesitation part a little even after she decided to be with him the next episode was all about how she couldn't forget about what he did. You know thinking of all the small stuff Gabe was just a rebound. Cat couldn't get V out of her head or heart so she rebounded with Gabe and even then she still couldn't get V out of her head. It was inevitable and Gabe knew that too.
I agree with Evan would of been a much better love triangle and he was a little bit. Im sad they had to kill him; theres just something about Gabe I don't like, maybe its the casting not that Sendhill isn't a good actor just maybe someone else should have portrayed Gabe.
The Tori thing well I have voiced my opinion on that a lot in the last 48hrs but I totally agree with the V ripped out her father's heart out and there was no reaction to that. Instead Tori wanted Vincent all to herself. Like common people she initiated the whole thing. The only reason why they got together was cause Cat shot him and even when she did you could still tel that neither of them wanted to move on but of course shooting someone you love is a big deal. Tori was also in a way just Vincent's rebound but I still don't and will never feel like he head any emotions for her. Common the guy was just shot by the love of his life and this girl is there throwing herself at you, claiming you guys have some primal connection and that they r like meant to be. What guy will not react to that. Yes he kissed Tori while he was with Cat but we all know that was all Reynolds doing. Its not like he cheated on her and dumped her for Tori; things happened and Voila! The girl was chasing him like a lost puppy, and her guilt with all the crap about not having anyone? even he asked her "so what now you're my responsibility?" There was not one scene I watched of them two where I could tell that V had any genuine feelings towards Tori.

I guess I never took that statement literally. They both have altered DNA and can be motivated by sheer animal instinct, so yeah. Cat will never have that connection with Vincent. But Vincent and Tori are not pure animal instinct. They have intellect, will-power, and for lack of a better word souls. Think of it this way... Tori will never have the connection with Vincent that Catherine has, because Vincent never loved her and never felt emotionally connected to her. Catherine is his one true mate. To me the Tori-Vincent connection thing was just more hype. I realize I am part of a small group of people here (and a lot of you are going to nail me to the wall ), but I see the Vincent/Tori part as just one of the obstacles in the grand vision of the series. Instead of having a "what-if" hanging there throughout the series, the she-beast scenario is addressed and taken care of (CHECK), with as few "painful parts" as possible for us invested and passionate viewers. The storyline needed for Catherine and Vincent to be apart to show how their love is destined. It needed to go to the darkest place in order for them to come back and have their love be even stronger ("They have to earn their love this season").
The unpleasant she-beast thing was checked off the list of obstacles for the series. We didn't have to witness any actual passion scenes between V and T. They spared us having to see anything but the one short kiss that Catherine needed to witness to make the break-up complete (per Bob's ultimatum to Vincent). The physical part of the V/T bit only had to be implied for us to get what had occurred (a couple of bathrobes was all I needed to get it). The "primal connection" that she and Vincent shared was an animal-type thing that Tori wanted to make into a real, lasting relationship like the one V and C have (wishful thinking, and she knew it). Vincent put into it what he could handle without there being anything emotional other than him protecting her. I think he felt sorry for her and her life and wanted to "do the right thing" because she was alone in the world except for him. But we never saw him welcome affection or return it. And he certainly never appeared happy about their "romantic" relationship. You could easily see by Vincent's looks and actions toward Tori that there could and would never be anything more to come of it. If he was sneaking out of bed (which we never saw) to talk to Catherine every night, it's obvious he didn't really want it. And if Catherine was around anywhere physically or otherwise, Vincent was entirely focused on her and Tori just faded into the background like a pesky little sister that follows you around.
Tori knew from the first scene in the woods that she wanted to have a real relationship with Vincent, but she also knew (as soon as she met Catherine) about the connection between C and V that she could never hold up against. She wanted it badly and tried up to the very end to get it, but really admitted it to herself only when it was too late. I think it saved her some of her character when she acknowledged that he and Catherine belong together. It was her way of releasing him from some of the burden he would put on himself for not being able to "save" her. In her defense (I know, right?), she did the right thing and set him free.
I'm also one of the few that only saw Alex as another one of the show obstacles that had to be checked off the list. The "girlfriend/fiancé from his past" wasn't as unpleasant for me as the "she-beast" one. There was only one kiss between them, and it was Alex kissing Vincent when he rescued her. He didn't reciprocate it in a romantic way. He felt bad about leaving her ten years ago without even a goodbye and wanted to make up the past to her. He was trying to do the right thing by her. He briefly thought he'd actually be able to leave his beast life behind and "be free". But the arc ended on a positive note between Vincent, Alex and Catherine. Even IF Alex didn't get killed by that Muirfield guy, she would no longer be a problem to V and C's relationship (CHECK.
As far as the Catherine/Gabe thing, I have another whole theory and don't want to throw that in here too. But I am one of the few that are confident that (what many of you consider) the "love triangle" thing is done and they don't need or want to repeat it. "Who Am I" will be completed in the next 6 episodes and "Who Are We" can begin. It's going to be outside forces from here on out. I can hardly wait!
I guess my point here is that I've read enough romance novels to know that guy/girl meet, fall in love, overcome obstacles and end up together in the end. You're never tempted to skip to the last few pages because you know there will be a happy ending. All the stuff they go through in between is just stuff that makes them even stronger and their love is even more concrete. Yes, the obstacles are extreme, but HELLO, This IS the CW we're talking about! Nothing they have put out so far has been intended to be anything like what they show on the Disney channel. It's not my intention to be mean here, but if that's what you're looking for with this show, you will definitely be disappointed, and maybe this show isn't for you. To me, Beauty and The Beast is the ultimate romance novel. That is the sheer genius about this version of BATB. This is why I am so passionate about the show (well, obsessed actually). That's why no matter what they throw at us, I look at the big picture and love every episode.
You are dead on and so not alone in your POV. I especially agree on the last part. It's a show not a Disney fairytale. And the angst is what makes people coming week after week and when the fairytale happens, its our payoff. Now I wont argue with the people who stopped watching the show cuz they didn't like the show and direction of the show anymore cuz im just losing a battle with them but for me that's what makes it interesting and that they are not afraid to go a little dark, common they have to do it. But people will probably argue with what I have to say next but looking at the ratings the first episode of season 2 already had lower ratings then season 1 and the views more or less stayed stable, so I really don't think people turned away cuz of the Tori/Vincent crap. I feel that the only thing people are having a hard time with is that V slept with Tori and they went in a relationship direction and because they went down that road it doesn't matter what happened whether V was into it or not. To some that was a big no no, cuz its a love story but seriously everyone knows relationships are far from perfect to be a strong couple you have to go through some strong stuff and that was a big part of this whole mission that they can face anything together. Like I said in a previous post they can't do lovey dovey all the time. Who would watch that? Anyways I don't wanna go into a debate with some over this so I just wanted to tell you that I totally agree with you.

LOL Nah as for Cat I knew she did cause of the convo with Tess. But Im not so bothered by it, maybe its cause I know hes not the reason why VinCat broke up. Yea there was a few hints but it could be interpreted either way and whenever someone called Tori V's girlfriend he wasn't around to correct them anyways and what was the poor guy to do anyways he was obviously being emotionally and mind controlled by Tori and even then he couldn't forget about Cat. I'm not saying sleeping around and sex triangles was the storyline. There was more behind there if you look deeper they both did dumb crap to forget about one another. Clearly neither wanted it to be over but Cat shooting V couldn't just be forgotten. The whole point of the storyline was to show in a way to VinCat that they are destined to be together. This is how I see it, they cant always make us happy and have no angst or people wont watch. Being a lovey dovey 24/7 isn't always the best thing and yes yes I get all you guys just don't understand why they had to throw V with Tori and Cat with Gabe to accomplish that. I get it I really do. well i think even Tori's line to V (you didn't promise me with a future but we are in a relationship ) that won't change your opinion too ? so i guess everyone of us is holding onto her opinion in this case ! and its fine by me , so let us just agree to disagree on this topic dear and now its time for me to say goodnight every body well actually she said (you didn't promise me a future but we are in some kind of relationship) that doesn't imply a full blown relationship just some kind of relationship plus you can clearly see in that scene that hes not really into it. When Tori cane down the stairs you could see his face, it was like oh no, not her again look. Plus right after she said that he didn't say anything and she did ask him if he wanted to go back to Cat and his face said it all. In that whole episode you could see he didn't want to be with her. Even she knew it.. But yeah you are right lets agree to disagree. Not everyone feels that way about the Tori/Vincent relationship but some of you guys do. To me when I watch it and I watch it every single night before I go to bed, I see it as Vincent never wanted to be with Tori and to me its clear in every single episode that aired after VinCat broke up. But that's just my outlook on it so whatever.

LOL I see that. I still choose to believe V didn't sleep with Tori lol do you choose to believe Cat didn't sleep with Gabe either ? or seeing her laying next to him in his bed was enough to believe it ? it was the same thing dear , we didn't saw them doing it but seeing them half naked in bed made it clear + Cat's answer to Tess's question about doing it in Mexico as for V and Tori we also saw them in their bathrobes = half naked and we heard Tori said they were in bed together and V snaked out to call Cat + every one called her his girlfriend and he didn't correct them ? how much clear you want those horrible sex triangles to be to believe they did actually happened ?! i am so sorry more than can you ever imagine but that really happened and there is no ( undo) button we can press to delete that ! as for the storyline you mentioned just one question : since when sleeping around and sex triangles consider as a storyline ? LOL Nah as for Cat I knew she did cause of the convo with Tess. But Im not so bothered by it, maybe its cause I know hes not the reason why VinCat broke up. Yeah I guess you're right. Like I said I only started watching the show once it went on hiatus so I wasn't around for the whole arc and to see the pics but I did see a pic once of them kissing. Very glad that was cut. Maybe you're right and the writers changed the storyline after seeing the viewer reaction. But looking back at the ratings it seems ratings went down from episode 1. But to me still when I watch those episodes when he's with Tori. I don't see him having emotions towards her. Plus that episode when she walks out on the gang the way he says that being around her changes the way he thinks and feels speaks volume to me. Oh well she's gone so who cares bout Tori. I do think they should of waited 1 whole episode before they made Vincent start trying to win Cat back. But I guess thinking this is the last season they needed to rush things a bit. To me, it doesn't matter if he had emotions towards her or not, it only matters to me that they went there with really really dumb love triangles on a show supposedly about "epic love" - a fairy tale no less. There is nothing epic or fairy-tale like about love triangles and sleeping around. Not okay, not fun, not entertaining. Waste of a freaking season. yeah but you have to remember they didn't do a love triangle in the angle he had feelings for someone else or wtv they did it in the sense of his beastness. And his connection with another beast. I gotta admit that I don't like how they say Tori had this connection with V that Cat would never have. I really did not like that part of it all.

There were pictures of cut scenes which implicated they were headed in that direction. Just FYI. I think the show runner/producers/TPTB just realized they were pushing fans right off the deep end and backed out of the full on in our face Tori/Vin relationship. But I thought it was pretty obvious from what she said about him getting out of bed and the bathrobes. Surely she could sleep somewhere else if they weren't doing the nasty. Heiress to how many million dollars? Anyway, just my take. For me, they wanted us to know they had been intimate. They just didn't SHOW it. Yeah I guess you're right. Like I said I only started watching the show once it went on hiatus so I wasn't around for the whole arc and to see the pics but I did see a pic once of them kissing. Very glad that was cut. Like you said everyone has their own POV, but I'm curious as to why everyone is so sure he slept with Tori. In my mind he didn't lol yes she wore a robe and what not but when I watched the show and I have rewatched those episodes a number of times it is very clear to me that Vincent had no feelings for Tori whatsoever. She was clingy to him but I saw no emotion on his part it was more her with her primal connection crap. I don't know I think they rushed all these storylines cuz season 3 was suppose to be who we are. And at some point they needed to explore Vincent's darker side and by bringing in a love triangle at the same time they killed 2 birds with one stone. They couldn't like explore darker side then bring VinCat back together then explore the she-beast and break them apart again that would just be wayyy too much angst. Anyways everyone has their own POV. And I think Cat also needed to explore a different relationship to see her relationship with Vincent more clearly and it would of been just stupid to have Vincent with someone else and then go back to Cat like Cat was just there waiting for him the whole time. The writers can't make everyone happy. I for one did not necessarily watch the show just for romance, yes it was a big part of the reason but also the storyline. And to be honest that is another reason why they don't have such high ratings too. But whatever our VinCat are now back together and as the writers say stronger then ever. Tori talked about him getting out of bed with her to call Cat, and yes they were both in bathrobes at his place, the implications and statements were CRYSTAL CLEAR for most of us. They did the deed, the show runners just didn't have the balls to show any of it. They cut the scenes that implied that they were headed in that direction and jumped right to the Vin-Tori relationship drama in episode 12. Anyway, since I didn't see a purpose for the she-beast on beast romance or sex-triangle, or really the need for either of them to explore relationships with others, and since it was all so poorly done and frankly, love triangles for the sake of love triangles - or sex for the sake of sex. I failed to see the point of any of it. Vincent indeed could have lost himself to his beast side, and resisted the urge to sleep with Tori. But that would not serve the soap-operatic purpose of introducing a love triangle. There was a logic in the beginning and it had to do with self discovery and the characters becoming stronger as individuals, I just personally fail to see the point of meaningless sex in there as an excuse for for "self discovery" - it's straight up BS. Others have talked about the need to explore "relationships with others" - in my mind that ship sailed when they fell in love and got together in the first season of the show. Done. Like done done. No going back from that. You can't then backtrack, tear everything down and then pretend to rebuild the love story. It is too late, it already happened B. Kern and company. Someone else already got to do that job. I can see the CW made for TV love triangle coming a mile away and I don't accept it as an acceptable choice of storyline on this show. Not on a show that is supposed to be about epic love. I feel like I got slapped in the face by TPTB over and over and over again. But obviously my opinions on the matter are strong and my standpoint is immovable. LOL. It all kind of makes me sick. LOL I see that. I still choose to believe V didn't sleep with Tori lol

I don't know why everyone keeps saying it feels like a soap opera. It doesn't to me. Cat wasn't really hopping beds. Vincent and her broke up and then she gave Gabe a chance. I am very glad I did not see a sex scene. We should be happy that they we're3 only really apart for what 3 episodes. Ok there was no kissing in more then 3 but even though they we're still apart to me it felt like I didn't need them to kiss to be happy just to have some emotional scenes with them was enough. But back to my point they weren't apart that long. I have watched shows where I waited 2 seasons for the couple I was rooting for to get back together so Ill take this over waiting for 2 years. Well, because frankly, that is what Vincent sleeping with Tori and Cat sleeping with Gabe felt like - these are the BEASTS & SHE-BEASTS and BEAUTIES of our Lives. We each have a right to our own opinion. They switched gears WICKED fast from Vin/Cat sleeping together at her father's house to Vin kissing Tori then Tori/Vin and Tori dying to Gabe/Cat and Cat sleeping with Gabe. As for Vincent, who knows how fast he jumped into bed with the she-beast. But in my mind it was FAST, like I got whiplash and might have just seen the champion of the Kentucky Derby FAST. And the other thing, which I think is key for ALOT OF BEASTIES, is that none of it was even remotely necessary. The theme of S2 was "WHO AM I" - not who am I with other people. It is not necessary after you have met the love of your life to explore relationships with others, figure yourself out, yes, maybe, but the other is just made for TV melodrama. It was salacious sex for the sake of itself, not anything more or less. That is the way some of us see it and it does matter how anyone argues the other POV, it will never be anything more. They were hoping to draw in new viewers - like people who like The Vampire Diaries, and in doing so, alienated a portion of their core audience. I signed up for a romance - a love story, not a soap opera. People swore up down around and sideways to hang in there and that Vin/Tori would not go there when the turkey trauma kiss debacle all started and I had a really bad feeling, little did I know it would get so much worse. I've never been more disappointed by the choices of the show runners and producers of a TV show. They dumbed it down, and tore down everything that was beautiful that they build in S1, like not just the house and it's walls but the foundation too. I found it despicable. And for the record, the love triangles started in episode 7 and ended in episode 16, and spanned nearly half the season.
