So we are here for cold turkey rewatch. .. so let's me start...
Interesting beginning with the singing of our three ladies which IMO neither can sing LOL but that's a different story. They are talking about guys and how Tess boyfriend is with his wife and how Catherine's friend who has issues is with an x. This wouldn't be so bad if Catherine was honest about how she really feels. I understand she can't say what her friends issues are and the fact he's a beast but a former of PSTD is what she used to describe his issues. Isn't it more that he wants a normal life with someone who is willing to go away with him? Again she wants him still and has that should I or should I attitude. Not sure yet.

Then we cut to Catherine watching TV and Heather freaked about the shows she watching and duh duh there's a knock on the door and it's none other then Alex asking if it's okay for her to take Vincent away on a romantic weekend in a cabin. Now my face fell to the floor LOL I couldn't believe my ears. She came to ask permission. Of course Catherine put up a wonderful face but when alex left you can tell she was distraught and shocked.
UT it gets worse LOL
Catherine decides to take a morning jog and vincent appears to apologize and tell her that alex shouldn't have gone to see her. Catherine is pissed when she finds out Vincent is going. Then she says that Vincent could lose it in front of Alex and that he's willing to risk all for someone who doesn't know him anymore. Vincent took offense and she defended what she meant. She said she wasn't his handler that he can go. She said she was going cold turkey when it came to their relationship and commercial

Catherine tells Tess that maybe she should call the guy thought she might have pushed him towards the other girl. Tess says no that she should focus on a drug bust at hospital. Then she looks at files and sees alex name she wants to go there first. So she calls JT to ask if she knew where Vincent was Cause they are going to find all of the letters and photos of Vincent in alex apartment so she decides to go and remove everything, in the apartment she gathers all before Tess and the rest of the team show up. In the meantime Vincent is in a car head go the cabin with alex.
Catherine finds a bug in alex apartment.
Love the interaction between JT and catherine . LOL

Catherine heads up to the cabin. At the cabin Vincent tries to tell alex about his experiments but alex takes it as PTSD and vincent leaves it as that.
In the meantime we find out a bit more about Evan he was a surgeon but left the UK after accidentally killing a young woman. He moved to the states and became a ME ..this was found out by JT to try to get him not to publish the finding of the cross species DNA and JT explains about M to Evan.
Catherine finds the cabin but V already left. .. he knew someone was after them so he goes to the woods. Catherine is surprised by him and one of the most truthful talks takes effect before the baddies come. A shootout insues

As much as seeing them in the cabin was painful the fact that alex didn't want to be with him cause she found out the truth and then he goes to see Catherine to try and fix things rubs me the wrong way. I always said he chose alex over Catherine and even though he would have left with her cause as he said to live a normal life but not happy still doesn't fix the fact he was her second choice. She should have closed that window on him then and there. It broke my heart but he deserved the cold shoulder.
Again the singing LOL again they can't sing but then again it book ended the episode. The girls together to support each other leaving the men in the dust, dog house , poop house whatever
Next week is Trust No One and 5 weeks left until the premiere of season 3 YAY
See ya next week

Without the deleted scenes from previous episode, seems that Alex is trying to do the right thing asking Cat the permission to go to the cabin (if she is really is handler...), but we know that Alex argued with V. about his relationship with Cat. So Alex is suspicious and her visit to Cat's apartment in the late evening (like she couldn't sleep without a confirmation) seems to me a way to read Cat's body language and see her reaction about their romantic trip. Cat was great with putting a poker face on and trying to be even funny with Alex. Probably V. couldn't understand perfectly Cat at this point of the story (or probably he doesn't know anything about women behaviour) otherwise he would never started the conversation during the jogging session. It is clear that Alex doesn't want only to speak, or better probably she doesn't want to speak with V. at all, she only wants to reach the cabin as soon as possible, wear her new expensive lingerie just to start a revival of old days and I think she is quite annoyed by V's timid attempts to explain her his situation (wasted time for other things...). JT probably for the first time is in on Cat's side and realises how loyal that girl is to V. and how many times she has broken the law to protect him. Funny and sad Cat's line "Hope that they have still their clothes on when I arrive": IMO she envy Alex because Cat is not the kind of woman that chose a silk baby-doll to attract a man in her bed (she usually wearing a flannel pijama... ) Both Cat and V. are pissed a bit with each other so every word they say is read in a bad/wrong way but the final fight and the fact that another time Cat was still close to V., even when he was in his beast form, has changed their point of view about relationship: in fact V. had no problem in explaining Cat what was happened to him, but he isn't able to say a word to Alex. A little mystery: how could Alex reach the place where they were without a car? I haven't decided yet if Alex behaviour after seeing V. in beast mode on was correct or if it was very bad from her: realising that your beloved can transform himself in a killer creature is surely very shocking, but Cat was near him and she was calm so why point a gun or run away? Another time the deleted scene explains us the end of the episode: Cat takes V. home... otherwise poor V. seems left alone in the woodland.

About this little mistery, you're right, Vincent had taken their only car...she must have run, alone and at night in a forest! scary For me my fav moment was when Alex reacted the way she did to his beast appearance because it finally meant we were done with the Alex possibility... I agree that JT taking Cat's side was new, and came a bit as a surprise for me,a good one. And poor Vincent not being able to explain his issue to Alex...fortunately Catherine had figured it out by herself and quickly, because it's obviously complicated to say it out loud. I felt bad for him, having to try to explain the unexplicable...

Whenever I watch this episode I think Vincent couldn't come clear with Alex because he did not feel that comfortable with her. I mean: Would you share a secret with someone, unless you really felt comfortable with that person and unless you felt that he or she won't judge you based on your secret? Or that this person is at least trustworthy? Basically, Vincent knew already that he couldn't trust Alex the way he trusted Katherine. He didn't even feel so comfortable with her, when they were in a supposedly secluded, romantic Cabin in the woods. He was aware that Alex would judge him and that would mean the end to his "better future". That's why he couldn't / wouldn't come clear. Now. Assuming this, I do understand why Vincent took Katherine's statement about who he really was (when he joined her while jogging) the wrong way. To him, Katherine is the only person besides JT who does know his secret and never judged him. When she commented about the possibility of him beasting out, he felt that she was judging him. Maybe, he somehow felt a bit deceived, even. Sure, it was only in his mind. But Katherine already knew that Vincent didn't feel that worthy (remember the episode "Worthy"), yet she pushed it, because she was having issues with Alex. Katherine was obviously jealous, which is why she reacted the way she did, while jogging. I am not saying that Vincent gets a carte blanche. Still, I kind of understand where he's coming from. Going away with Alex to him was not about getting away from Muirfield. He was hoping, he could escape his beast side if he left NY behind. You can accuse him of wishful thinking. But no more. To be honest I think, that even if Katherine would've said 'yes I'll leave with you', he might've turned her down, not wanting her to leave everything (her family, her career) behind because of him. I loved the fight in the woods. Loved that they had eachothers back, despite their fight. I loved that when Alex pointed the gun at Vincent, it was Katherine who talked her down. Loved that Katherine left them, so he can explain himself to Alex, knowing that he would be joining her in the car. BTW, I did never see those deleted scenes, since I only bought the second season on DVD. Does anyone care to share?

For those who never saw the deleted scenes the storyline was executed the WRONG way. The way we saw it on TV was just wrong. If maybe they would have added a few of those scenes it might have explained it better. IMO the editing sucked. But what is done is done. LOL

In this ep there are so many emotional, fun and exciting moments. My thoughts are, that V was certain about his feelings for Cat. She was his nr. 1 not Alex but Alex showed him a glimpse of his old life to be normal. V has huge issues about him wanting to be normal. V seems so sad and destroyed when he said it was not for Alex but for a better future for him. The point of him going to the cabin was to tell Alex the truth about him. In the woods V and Cat worked well together and you can see what a great team they make. In the fire escape scene I felt so sorry for V when Cat leaves even though he deserves it. The way he looked at Cat you could just tell he was sorry. And finaly now they are on the same page with their feelings.

"Cold Turkey" is actually one of my actual faves from Season 1. Yeah, you actually heard me right. I feel editing and time constraints actually really screwed this one up from what it could have been. With all the Muirfield and Evan backstory, it really needed to have been two episodes instead of one.
Basically, what Vincent actually WANTS is Catherine. We all know this. Everything about Vincent and Alex in "Cold Turkey" is nothing but awkwardness. Vincent is nothing but unhappy with her AND he never actually loses control around her. What I mean by that is, Vincent later tells Catherine in AMP that he is never so out of control as he is with her. What he feels for Catherine is SO extreme and so undefinable, that he can't even begin to reign it in. So he goes for boring. Because you see with the false starts to conversations with Alex that he is really TRYING to just go through the motions. It is like we can see into Vincent's head of "this is where I compliment her cooking. This is the same dish she always made. This is the same talk we always do. She will rattle on whether I care or not. I will try to listen. . . " It is like Vincent tells himself that this is the role that he must play.
And in Vincent's head space, think about it. If he has a boring life somewhere else, where everything is virtually routine, he won't get excited. For him, Catherine is that wild rush to the head (and other areas of the body) and everything that can't be contained or measured and CERTAINLY NOT CONTROLLED. It is chaotic and up and down, and Vincent has been hurt multiple times when he wanted to move forward with Catherine but couldn't due to 1) guilt, 2) feeling unworthy, 3) thinking she doesn't feel the same, 4) guilt, and 5) did I mention guilt? Because Vincent has seen how his mere presence has caused Catherine's life to repeatedly spiral beyond her (or his) control. And Vincent most likely has that voice inside of his head that always feels unworthy telling him that Catherine would be safer and happier without him. And Catherine's sometimes harsh words that she uses to try to protect herself OR try to give Vincent a wake-up call that he desperately needs just serve to make Vincent think that she WANTS a reason to pull away from him.
So Vincent wants safety rather than the whirlwind. Especially when he thinks that the mundane would actually better serve AND SAVE the woman he REALLY loves.
Basically, Vincent brought Catherine the case that got her shot. That is NOT how I see it--I'm saying that is how VINCENT would see it, at that point in his emotional development. Vincent has had to basically shut himself down emotionally for TEN LONG YEARS just to try to stay sane and keep existing. And that is all his life has been: an existence. With a fair bit of longing to get to know the girl in braids that he saved all those years ago. And once she is in his life, he feels "alive" again, as he tells JT (and JT feels free to tell Catherin-heeheehee--still love that horrified look when JT said that in front of VinCat!). And Vincent, who has fought so hard for CONTROL and ACCEPTANCE for his sorry lot in life, just spirals into the emotional hurricane that is being in love. And he wants so much to have that love and acceptance from Catherine, and have her be his everything, yet he continually sees how their love will put her life and career in jeopardy.
So Vincent basically interprets Catherine's going back and forth as her trying to pull away from him, not really thinking he is worth the risk, and realization that she could come to resent him. And Catherine actually seems to have some resentment in this episode (and the last one--however, we all know it is partly due to Vincent's carelessness that he can somehow bring Alex in without knowing how she would respond to the whole "beast" thing).
And Vincent MUST have known that Alex wouldn't accept the beast thing. ALEX wants the normal and mundane--her the nurse to his doctor. Safe. Predictable. She doesn't want a wrench in the works. Here Vincent supposedly has a handler, yet Alex prattles on like it is a small insignificant thing and not an indication that things are not as they appear to be. AND SOMEWHERE, Vincent MUST have realized that he could never trust Alex with the truth. Because he would have found a way to tell her. Instead, Vincent just figures Life with Alex will be boring enough that the beast will never be tempted to emerge.
And THERE is the real Truth--how you know Catherine is the real love of his life. Vincent could trust her with everything, right from the beginning of their relationship. He can tell her everything. What it comes down to is how Catherine acted at the WEDDING of her father and how Vincent felt she banished him away and was unwilling to be with him or introduce him into her life at that point. As Catherine says in the woods, it really IS "his problem." She always saw him as Human. I mean, when Alex sees the beast side of Vincent, she completely writes him off! ( I mean, COME ON ALEX--he was attacked. You really expected him not to defend himself? Catherine was firing her gun and fighting for her life too. And Vincent never tries to harm anyone that wasn't bad. So really? You just want nothing more to do with him after all your little speeches to Catherine and even Vincent? WOW. How much you DON'T really know him OR trust him.)
So had Catherine NOT been shot, and ended up at death's door with Evan having to save her, and then Alex appearing before Vincent and Catherine had had time to clear the air after the wedding debacle, THEN I don't believe Vincent would have been so receptive to Alex. Vincent was really gutted emotionally from nearly losing Catherine, both physically and emotionally. So all his old issues came up. And Alex presents herself as seeing him as she always saw him. And she is boring, mundane and NOT someone who stirs up so many emotions, needs and feeling uncontrolled as Catherine does.
Still get MAD mad mad etc. at Vincent in this episode. Even though I get where he was coming from. But my heart actually BROKE for Catherine. Those two NEEDED to have that conversation in the woods WAY before all of this. But Catherine and Vincent BOTH have a tendency to act with anger and passion in the heat of the moment and say words they don't mean or push the other person away, all while trying to protect one another and themselves. Heartbreaking. But you SO see how much the two are in LOVE with each other in the woods. BECAUSE WHY ELSE would Vincent be so obviously hurt by her previous words and so anxious to discuss the whole thing out if he REALLY wanted to run away from her? Vincent CAN'T stop thinking about anything Catherine-related, although he has tried to.
And Vincent realizing that he is a donkey's butt! HeeHeeHee. And it all coming together for Vincent when he talks with JT! And JT actually AGREEING that he made the wrong decision about Alex! JT has REALLY turned a corner in this episode as well.
I'm not done talking about this episode, but if I don't leave the office now, the only remaining open restaurant in this small town of mine will be closed. And I will starve. So need dinner, because goodness knows, I am like Catherine in the kitchen!!

I don't know what it is about the overly heartbreaking episodes that sometimes makes them the most memorable and even romantic. Because this one actually manages to be heartstoppingly romantic. Vincent FINALLY gets it that Catherine is the one. He even manages to fall more in love with her in this episode BECAUSE of all that she is willing to do and sacrifice for him. And you see just how much Catherine loves him and is willing to do for and because of that love. So the soul-searching looks and passionate speech in the woods just SHOW how much more Catherine really means to Vincent--the passion is there, even though they are both on the watch for Muirfield, which is completely lacking with Alex. (And the fact that Vincent was still thinking things through and mulling over what Catherine would or would not do just shows how even when with Alex, Catherine was who was really on his mind.)
And that is where the romance comes in. Catherine is the scorned woman in this thing, at the beginning. Vincent has brought all the Muirfield insanity upon himself. Catherine was right in her warning that Vincent ignores. She would be within her rights not to worry further about it. But she loves him. And even more than that, she shows that she is a good and loyal friend, no matter what. And selfless at that. Because she conceivably has NOTHING to gain personally by helping Vincent. She even risks her career by going to the raid on Alex's apartment ahead of time to wipe-down all the fingerprints. And when she STILL can't reach Vincent, she even goes to the cabin to ensure he is warned of Muirfield's bug in Alex's apartment and to make sure Alex and Vincent are safe. She protects Vincent, even from Alex, and doesn't give away his secret. She then risks her life to save Vincent's in the woods. And proves, both by conversation and actions, that she knows and accepts ALL of him, including the beast side of him. Which Alex will never even try to understand. Catherine, AGAIN, has to step in between Vincent and Alex, risking her life if Alex pulled the trigger in her upset state, and tries to even get Alex to accept Vincent. Catherine does none of this to gain Vincent's love but because it is the right thing to do and because she does, in fact, love and care for him, no matter what.
And I LOVE how it all comes crashing back on Vincent when he realizes from JT about just how much Catherine has done to protect him. Catherine was everything that he thought Alex would be supposed to be--loyal and loving and devoted no matter what he had done to push her away. And Vincent is able to see the full worth of her love and realizes just how badly he wants to return it and be with her. OF COURSE, it would be at the WORST possible time--because Catherine is not likely to want to reciprocate because she thinks she is just second choice to Alex. So all her walls are back up in spades, and deservedly so. While Vincent is coming to see that he never really wanted Alex in the first place and certainly wouldn't want someone that couldn't love or accept all of him. And Vincent COMPLETELY lacks the right words to say at the time he needs them the most. Vincent cannot think of a way to make things right. And Catherine makes it rather clear that there is nothing he can do to make things right between them.
Ten years of basically not dating, or even really talking to women for that matter, really come back to bite Vincent in the rear in this episode. He just does not have the words to tell Catherine how much he NOW realizes what she, in fact, means to him. And Catherine's actions have managed to ERASE all of his previous concerns leftover from her father's wedding. Vincent can now see how much Catherine obviously feels for him and that she is NOT going to back away from the complications that naturally come from being involved with Vincent. The beast-side of him would never keep her from a relationship with him. So Vincent gets his "ah-ha!" moment about the strength of Catherine's bond to him AND wants to return it wholeheartedly, after he has done everything possible to damage said relationship! That is star-crossed at its best! (And proves Shakespeare's comment on love: "Love is not love that alters when alteration finds it. . . " Because despite Vincent's seeming commitment to Alex, Catherine's love and devotion never waivers, even when she thinks Vincent is beyond her reach. Alex wants the dream that never actually was or ever could be. She cannot take or handle the truth. While Catherine accepts and loves all of him, flaws and all. Even if she can't be with him. So beautiful. And why I actually love this episode.)
One thing that I would have liked to have seen from this episode: I rather wish that Vincent would have followed Catherine without her knowing it and secretly spied upon her singing with her sister and Tess. This was SUCH a cute girly moment. And yet another moment of Catherine being supportive and trying to cheer up her friends and be there for them, even when she is hurting badly herself.
