It is nice to see how happy is Vincent to be able to invite Cat for having a "date" that is not a "date" because a "date" scares them jiji I don't know if it's that a date scares them, I think it's more that neither one is sure if the other reciprocates the strong feelings, so it's best not to bandy the word "date" around just in case.

Nice scene between JT and Vincent, they apparently talking about JT relationships when the true is that Vincent wants to know what JT thinks about a posible relationship between Vin and Cat I interpreted that differently. I saw it as Vincent really trying to encourage JT to pursue a relationship with Sarah (because I think by now it's pretty clear that Vincent is going to do whatever he wants when it comes to Catherine regardless of JT's hissy fits) and only when JT presented a strong and reasonable case for not starting something with Sarah did Vincent start to see the harm a relationship with him would cause Cat.

It sucks how onre conversation w/ JT ruins V's mood & self worth. He doesnt think he deserves Catherine & because of his self worth issues even the slightest convo about JT & his potential love life ruins V's mood & he pushes Cat away again I interpreted this scene differently, too. I don't think Vincent's self-worth was damaged here. IMO, all Vincent could see was how his secret and baggage would keep Catherine from having the type of life and relationship he wanted for her. He wanted to be "that guy" for Catherine, but circumstances wouldn't let him and he cared enough for Cat to let her go even though it killed him. Vincent was fighting a losing battle because one minute he was pushing her away ("Go live your life") and in the next moment, he was pulling her close. LOL I mean come on! Deep down Vincent had to know that Catherine would be back as soon as she discovered the gift he'd left.

I didn't understand why Evan brought a date to Catherine's birthday party in the first place. Seemed kind of weird since none of her other co-workers brought dates. And then the kiss in the photo booth. What was that besides totally uncool on all fronts? Was it Evan's arrogance that prevented him from seeing that Catherine was just not that into him? ?? i dont think at that stage it was very clear so he still had hopes.plus she was being playful (in a friendly drunk way) and he was drunk so he just braved the kiss If you say so.

i n my experience, Cat shows how her feelings towards Vincent are more similar to an obsession than a healthy love in this episode: in the second case even if you love a person, you are able to enjoy other people company and time spent with them; in the first case - that mirrors how Cat feels herself at the bday party - she is able only to think about Vincent and tries to entertain herself with stupid things and drinks. In the cut scene, she makes a drunk talk with a girl on the sofa about the mysterious man, whilst looking at other people enjoy her bday party: she clearly would prefer to be in another place with Vincent and speaking about him is a way to feel his presence Not sure I'm getting your meaning here. When you first start falling in love you are obsessed (in the short term). Falling in love is heady stuff; it's powerful, it's magical, it's all consuming. And...it's normal. All Catherine wanted was to spend her birthday with Vincent. That was her wish. And her wish would have come true had it not been for her busybody sister. I know some think Heather was being cute and endearing, but I don't. Heather's actions here is what started my season long dislike of her.

Evan obviously wants to be with Catherine and yet tries to have a "fallback" position of Clair, kissing Cat while his supposed new girlfriend in only a few feet away. That is Evan--eternally conflicted between what he wants and what he can have and trying to decide between right and wrong in pursuing a relationship with Cat and "protecting" her. (Which constantly annoys Cat--the length the men in her life are willing to go to "protect" her, whether she wants it or not. Is a problem for her in BOTH seasons.) That was Evan being a weasel. If he was interested in Catherine romantically, and wanted to date her, he should have been an adult and said so. He should have given her the opportunity to say "yea" or "nay." But this slinking around the perimeter of her life and constantly yapping about protecting her made me ill. As for everybody wanting to protect poor little Catherine--because heaven knows a thirtysomething woman who just happens to be a gun-toting, ass-kicking detective, couldn't possibly have a clue about what she wants and needs--I'm really tired of this trope and hope it's discontinued STAT in season 3.

Arwenfan, I agree with you on Vincent and Catherine not knowing if feelings are reciprocated and then not daring to really say it clearly/talk about a "date"/explain what they had in mind for their meeting initially planned for her b-day... But I don't agree on Evan being a weasel. For me he is clearly interested in Cat, he makes it clear by several of his reflections, and by the way he looks at her with his charming smile and eyes. Now you can always exchange looks with a woman and try to show her you are interested and judge her reaction, but not tell it frontly. That's not so easy to say frontly to someone you'd like to go out with her. Everyone has self preservation or pride restraint. And it's not not being an adult to be afraid of rejection. If every adult could say all that is in his mind/hearth to everyone, we would know it. But yes you can reproach him to bring Claire to the party, and consult online dating websites, but that doesn't make him not interested in Cat. He just doesn't know if he has a chance, and he doesn't want to be only on her, too insistent...But overall for me he's more charming than annoying in this episode.

I guess we can agree to disagree on all things Evan since I never found him charming or right for Catherine and this is without Vincent being in the picture.

I have to say that the song selections for this particular episode were spot on. I just LOVE the first song's lyrics that are playing as poor Vincent is tossing and turning on his bed, all about "tempting fate." And Vincent just seems in agony and oh so desperate to just go tempt fate with Catherine right then and there. Was a perfect theme for the episode.
And I also just loved "Hotties On a Mission" with Cat and Tess having done their photos as Charlie's Angels wannabes!
