AM WATCHING TOO... This is what I have so far...I know, it's a lot:
Bridesmaid Up Review:
I love the opening scene; Catherine seems truly happy, for the first time in a long time. She is carefree, looking outward, It is obvious that since the end of episode 8, she has made time to reflect on her choices and her behaviour and, more importantly, time to re-evaluate her relationships-especially those with her parents. She lived for so long with so much guilt for what happened to her mother and believing that everyone around her blamed her, that, in many ways, she had come to feel, deep down inside, that she was unworthy of anyone's love. (In the last episode we viewed, Vincent expresses his sense of unworthiness, but I think that Catherine feels equally unworthy.) She has been living behind this wall, guarding her heart, but all her experiences since she found the beast who saved her 10 years ago, have slowly been tearing away at this invisible protective force field, and she is looking at her life with new eyes. This is all confirmed by Heather's opening line::"Who are you right now?" It is truly a 360 degree turn around. However, in typical Catherine fashion, she still feels that it is her responsibility to guarantee everyone else's happiness.
Enter Vincent through the window: He too is happier than he has ever been, smiling widely, making fun at and with Catherine; yes, the mood is contagious and he forgets, for a while, what he has come to speak to her about. The strength of their bond, at this point, is evident. While she tells Heather that she is fine going without a date, she spills the beans to Vincent, telling him how she is truly feeling about it. I love how easily and naturally she says: "I wish you could come with me." It catches him off guard, but you can tell, immediately, that he is excited about the idea, and just as immediately, that they both realize the impossibility of him going with her. Nonetheless, they both choose to live, momentarily, in the beautiful "alternate reality" that they create together. It is touching and heart braking at the sane time. I love the scene!!!!...Then Vincent brings them back to reality and talks about the case he has for her. Work gives them opportunities to come together, but, at times, also allows them to put some distance between each other, when conversations get too intimate....as they say good-bye, I could really feel the yearning, the reret, the feeling that life is just not fair.
Cat hosts the wedding shower: As she prepares to welcome her guests, she fills Tess in as ti the potential case while Evan enlists her to help him find the individual who was in his lab (a.k.a. JT)....We find out that, unknown to Cat, Evan is continuing to work on his project on genetic mutations. Tess is just everybody's "go to" girl today!
The events at the shower are quite priceless! They talk about all the usual topics: shoes....(which introduces the nail polish on the soles of expensive shoes to protect the concept that will later tie in to the case of the week, and show how clueless Cat is when it comes to fashion and designers-she says they can all buy a pair of Louboutin shoes-crazy)....and, of course, the one topic Catherine's wishes to avoid with a ten foot pole....dates!!!!! At first, she is saved by the bell (really the phone)...Tess calling to give her an update on the case. This introduces Sabrina and her husband...and of course, Sabrina's work as a "match-maker" ties in perfectly to the wedding theme....I love Brooke's friend's line about Catherine having to direct the "cater-waiter"...which is exactly what happens at the wedding.
Well, we see Catherine loose her cool, get backed into a corner and do the unimaginable, invent a boyfriend who does not exist who in fact exists...yes, I'm confused too!!! The moment the words come out of her mouth, she wishes she could take them back, but can't....however, it is the blurting out of these words that will begin a chain reaction that will lead to her "alternate reality " becoming her reality for a much too short magical moment that neither she nor Vincent will ever forget.
Cat at the precinct: I love her look as she walks in and confesses to Tess that she has invented a boyfriend-a.k.a. "fake-boyfriend". This scene also introduces the Tess/Joe connection, although we have no idea at this point as to HOW connected they really are...even Cat is shocked...but quickly distracted by a lead in the case.
I like all of Tess' one liners during this scene and the following one at the victim's apartment.
Bromance scene: Let me just get this out of the way-Vincent is too cute for words!!!! Another scene that is funny and light and at the same time, so heavy and full of sadness. Vincent is not cured..but does he in fact have more control over himself? Who knows. Can he allow himself to have a 'normal date" with the woman he loves? Is he in fact only lying to himself because he wants it so bad that it hurts?...Well. JT is the fool, the voice of reason, and he believes that that is the case. He walks away, having stated his opinion, but Vincent is so far gone into fantasy land, that he cannot hear the voice of reason.
Back at the precinct: They are finding out more and more about the Myers and their connection to Mandel, the victim...so the investigation escalates with Catherine posing as a desperate woman in need of a date for her father's wedding...funny how fantasy imitates reality. We also find out that Heather has invited Evan to the wedding because Josh broke up with her...that spoils Cat's plan to invite Evan, and it is made clear to us that Evan is very much interested in Catherine and disappointed that he said yes to Heather so quickly.
Sabrina's dating rules: Well that woman is such a "rhymes with burja (witch in Spanish)" before we even realize how bad she actually is. She is such an anti-feminist disguised as a feminist. Look at me, I am so successful and independent....but let me find you man who will be a good provider and take care of you...now that is one woman who gives women a bad name...but for a woman who thinks she is smart, she isn't very smart. Catherine easily tricks her into giving her a LONG peak at her client list. Love the shoe reference once again...it is really the shoes that tie all aspects of the episode together. By the end of her time at the agency, Cat has almost figured it all out...now who's the smart one?
VinCat magic: Cat fills Tess in on what she has discovered and get's ready for the rehearsal party dinner. I love this interaction between Vincent and Catherine. I love how she says: "This is starting to become a habit." They are both so honest with each other about the way they feel, but Catherine is so caught up in worrying about Vincent exposing himself in order to do something nice foe her, that she fails to see how hurt and disappointed he is when she rejects his offer. I love the way he is tentative and unsure of himself, I love the deep concern in her face...I love how it all happens as she gets dressed, and he so comfortably helps her with her necklace. I love how he looks at her with love and admiration when she comes out of the washroom in her dress. I love how he tells her that he feels better, how he says that it doesn't feel like a risk to him, the way that in trying to convince him that it is a bad idea, she is, in fact, trying to convince herself that it is a bad idea. What I most love about this episode is the natural and comfortable intimacy between then....it is in every scene they share.
Rehearsal dinner: No matter how hard Cat tries to tell the truth about V. Z....there is just no way out! After all, there is already a place for him at a table! I love how dad says:"What we didn't spell it right?" We know that as Cat looks at the card, she wishes it actually said Vincent Keller. By the end of the scene, Catherine has begun to ask herself all those questions: what am I waiting for? ; why do I focus on all the reasons why it couldn't work? ....she needs to stop thinking and only focus on feeling...but that is not always her forte.
