This is the reason why VinCat shouldn't have had sex in season 1. I know most of you don't want to see it but IMO this is why the ratings suck. It's not season 2 that killed the ratings. It was how fast they got together in season 1. What season 2 did for some fans is destroyed the essence of the show and that's why you think it's what killing the ratings. The ratings were bad since the first episode of season 2. They were already bad at the end of the season 1 at least from what the CW was expecting. The CW was trying to get a specific target market with this show and this is why the show has The Vampire Diaries as a lead. Yea, I know some of you hate The Vampire Diaries but the audience of that show is what the CW was expecting to have. Right now it's what would have saved this show I don't agree with this. I haven't watched the early seasons of TVD in a while, but I seem to remember Stefan and Elena getting together in season 1 and that certainly didn't hurt that show, so I can't buy into getting C/V together sooner rather than later was the single biggest thing that hurt ratings. I am older than the CW's demographic, but love triangles are not my thing. That's why I no longer watch TVD and haven't started with Reign. I would not have been pleased with the central relationship being dragged out because the chemistry between the leads and the story they were telling was too strong to push it out any longer than they did. Furthermore, we're dealing with adults not teeny boppers. I agree that the minor characters should have decent B plots, and that they should have either kept the procedural aspect or beefed up a solid mythology. But the main draw for me is Vincent and Catherine's relationship. They need to be together and they need to be helping others and fighting common enemies. I like that Vincent is out of hiding this year because that opens up more stories for him and Cat. I would like to see him going back to medicine. He and Cat could try having a normal life while working in jobs that often required them to work together while staying out of the clutches of people who want to capture/exploit Vincent for their own nefarious reasons. Maybe the show should be on a different network with an older audience base. CBS could put the show on its schedule.

I feel shared about this matter. On the one hand, it seems that there are just a few spots (1 or 2?) for all the shows that are at risk of being cancelled or that just aired, so it would make sense that it would be for the one with the top viewers. However, I can not even picture this show being cancelled just because the fandom, that is beasties, that is US would definitely go bananas ... would they really like to get that bad publicity...?

I voted that it will get renewed for a full season but I'll settle for even a half season. Just as long as it is renewed.

I freely admit that I have been too depressed over the reality of possibly losing the show to post in over a week. When you go below a million viewers, cancellation is normally certain. So I realistically voted that the show is most likely going to be cancelled (which may actually finish me off. I NEED my VinCat goodness). While I LOVE the campaign that is currently going on to save the show, that is not the kind of campaign that will likely work. The tv show ROSWELL got three seasons because of the kind of campaigns they ran to get renewal even though they lost a LOT of viewers their second season because of the love triangles nightmare. The tv show CHUCK got FIVE seasons because of their kind of campaigns. How did they do it? They showed how the show could actually make a profit, which is the only thing the execs really care about (this is a business, after all). Both shows targeted a sponsor of the show and bought their products like crazy--Roswell execs/studio got sent tabasco sauce and Snapple lids by the bucket-load and Chuck fans bought Subway on days/nights that the show aired. Roswell fans even at the end of Season 2 sent all the Snapple lids to the rival network to get it to pick up the show, which it did (of course, that was before the CW when there was still the UPN versus the WB.) The TERRA NOVA campaign failed to save their show because the viewers just sent plastic dinosaurs to the network. No real money made for a specific show sponsor there so it failed. Foreign viewers sadly don't matter to Hollywood since it is the American ad market that makes or breaks a show--if you can't charge enough for the commercials here in the states, you replace it with a show that can.
That said, of course I will hold out hope until the end. In May, we get an official CW response. At that point, we Beasties desperately need to target other fandoms and get them to watch the Final Six episodes of the season. If the numbers go up enough, there is potential to make it a mid-season offering. Every year that CHUCK came on, they never had a full season pick-up--that is why the seasons often have two different plots.
We Beasties will also HAVE to target a sponsor that really matters to the advertisers (I mean, the floral industry as a whole really doesn't need us) like a particular restaurant or product in the way that CHUCK and ROSWELL did. Those campaigns worked because Subway and Snapple saw actual dollar signs and publicity so offered to pay enough to keep the shows on the air.
Honestly, we need to target those Quaker Chewy granola bars. I eat the same ones that Vincent did, only with the chocolate chips so I thought I recognized the wrappers. We need to send envelopes full of the wrappers ((or the bars themselves)) to the CW network ((and probably CBS as well since I guess another network could option it from CBS??)) along with a postcard of Vincent eating the things AND send our receipts and/or wrappers to the Quaker company so that they see that Vincent's eating habits could become a regular running theme through the episodes providing them with advertising AND publicity in that their product was used to save a show. I mean, this has worked TWICE before to save shows.

The more I think about renewal...well I read some posts in this forum and I'm afraid to dare to think negative, because I feel like if it won't renew, it probably won't. As if my thinking has some influence lol! But I know that people in this forum are thinking positive! It's just really annoying cw has never really been great with promoting batb, but during this season it's been even worse! I mean before they had at least the producer previews and upcoming clips...but yeah, now you are lucky to get the upcoming promo only ! Like what the heck? Are they showing favoritism for some shows? Wouldn't you think that they will try to promote shows evenly? I wonder if batb were in a different network the ratings would have been better?
