just looked at tvbythenumbers final numbers for Thursday and BATB stayed at .7--I am happy with that. I think as things heat up between the two of them we can hopefully pick up more viewers. Final was 1.72 and .7 that is down slightly from 1.79 last week but I hope it keeps us up in 4th place.

Well yeah that's great but if you read on last year's show The Secret Circle had 12% higher rating this time last year and that show was still cancelled...The numbers are good BUT we need more...IF we can do 2MIL views that would be fantastic!

Interesting stuff guys! Saw that some people have figured out the average numbers for shows this season. The CW's shows average a 0.71 demo (18-49 yo) with 1.78 million viewers. That means that shows AT or ABOVE that demo are sure renewals. Here's where all the shows rank (this includes last night): 1. The Vampire Diaries - 12 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 1.37 >>> Viewers Ave: 2.87 million >>> Prediction: Certain Renewal ;D 2. Arrow - 12 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 1.14 >>> Viewers Ave: 3.43 million >>> Prediction: Certain Renewal ;D 3. Supernatural - 12 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.89 >>> Viewers Ave: 2.08 million >>> Prediction: Certain Renewal ;D 4. Beauty and the Beast - 11 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.68 >>> Viewers Ave: 1.8 million >>> Prediction: Toss-Up. It depends on international sales, production costs, and whether or not the 0.7 holds for the rest of the season. If we drop below a 0.7 and the average goes lower, we're pretty much done for UNLESS our fan campaigns are successful. 5. Hart of Dixie - 13 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.56 >>> Viewers Ave: 1.4 million >>> Prediction: Toss-Up. It's in its 2nd Season & is cheap to produce, so could go either way. 6. The Carrie Diaries - 3 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.53 >>> Viewers Ave: 1.42 million >>> Prediction: Certain Cancellation (unless it's numbers increase) 7. 90210 - 11 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.47 >>> Viewers Ave: 0.94 million >>> Prediction: Likely Cancellation. The writers have put the last few episodes on hold writing-wise as they await word from the CW. If it does get a renewal, it will be for a shortened final season. BUT it's reached 100+ episodes so there's no reason to keep it going. 8. Gossip Girl - 10 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.44 >>> Viewers Ave: 0.89 million >>> Prediction: N/A (The already aired its final episode) 9. Emily Owens, MD - 10 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.37 >>> Viewers Ave: 1.26 million >>> Prediction: N/A (The show has been CANCELLED) 10. Nikita - 8 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.35 >>> Viewers Ave: 1.12 million >>> Prediction: Likely Renewal for syndication purposes 11. The LA Complex - 2 episodes aired so far >>> Demo Ave: 0.2 >>> Viewers Ave: 0.48 million >>> Prediction: N/A (The show has been CANCELLED) ANTM is not here, but that show is being moved to Summers according to the CW, so it doesn't factor into BATB's renewal chances.

Thanks for the breakdown, Jacki. Very happy that the demo didn't change for last night's eppy, hopefully it can remain steady or even increase. If BATB keeps steady at 0.7 for the rest of the episodes, that's good because it'd be (pretty much) tying the network average. I am concerned though. We lost like 60,000 Nielson viewers this past episode, and I can totally guess why - ALEX. People were happy about episode 9, pissed about episode 10. As a result, it's important that all of us Beasties take to social media and promote the heck out of the fact that the next episode is going to turn things around for VinCat and mark the beginning of Alex's exit, that the episode after that is the Valentine's Day episode where Vincent tries to be Cat's Valentine, AND we're getting a VinCat kiss between episode 12-15 if rumors are correct. I don't see it happening next episode, and I don't think it's going to be 13. Even though it's Valentine's Day, it really sounds like Vincent is trying to romance Cat and I don't expect a kiss because I'm sure Cat is still hurt about his rejection of her from this past episode. As a result, I'm thinking episode 14 or 15...and since the writers love to drag it all out, episode 15. (If it's later than that, I'm going to be so ticked. I do not want to see VinCat's first kiss happen in episode 16-22.) THOUGH I'd really love to see Cat almost get killed again next episode trying to save Vincent, Vincent realizing she's important and plants one on Cat...and I'd like it to be a kiss outside in the rain. But the writers won't give me what I want, I've come to terms with that. haha. The point is we're getting VinCat mouth sex soon AND Muirfield is back. We have action & romance. This shows about to get awesome. We need to promote this to everyone and urge them to come back. If we drop another 60,000 fans, we're going down to 0.6. 0.6 won't get a renewal. 0.5 or lower in the Spring is cancellation; we can't lose fans. We need to show BATB is gaining fans so that the CW has hope it can gain more over the summer (through Netflix, internet, & word-of-mouth) and warrant a second season.

My magic 8 ball says there will be a 2nd season, but possibly only half to start with! lol sorry had to sound like the writers That's what I'm thinking though... Is glee on the same time as batb? How is that comparing with ratings? Glee is popular but I'm guessing ratings are going down because of the dramatic change with cast. Too many characters to keep track of! And now that most of the old glee gang aren't in high school anymore, there's less screen time for them except for Rachel and Kurt. Yes I'm guilty of watching glee *don't shoot me*! lol but I don't have that problem of it airing at the same time and I do like beauty and the beast better! But are there also other shows on at the same time- that's big competition for batb?

But are there also other shows on at the same time- that's big competition for batb? In the US, BATB currently competes with Person of Interest, Grey's Anatomy, Glee, & the Office during their 1-hr timeslot. (That's for the networks. Cable doesn't really matter.) BATB always comes in last place, but that doesn't matter so much. Networks look at how the show is doing on their network, not so much how its doing against the competition. How it's doing against the competition just means it may be moved to another night -- less to do with renewal/cancellation. Renewal or cancellation has more to do with how its demo is compared to that networks average. CW's is currently 0.71 and BATB is currently 0.68, so we need to keep getting 0.7 or higher and try to meet or exceed the 0.71 average. (Or we can pray that all the other shows do worse to bring down the average, but it's better to make sure we do better.) FYI, CW always loses in its timeslot. Don't worry about that. The only time a CW show isn't in last place is if it's up against all repeats or a show that has been cancelled by another network so everyone has stopped watching it. It's very rare. This past week TVD was in second-to-last place because in last place was a repeat of a reality show. Here's how BATB did in its timeslot this past Thursday: #1 - Person Of Interest - 3.2/9 - 15.62 million viewers #2 - Grey's Anatomy - 2.8/7 - 8.77 million viewers #3 - The Office (8:00pm) - 2.1/5 - 4.44 million viewers #4 - Glee - 2.1/6 - 5.54 million viewers #5 - The Office (8:30pm) - 1.9/5 - 4.02 million viewers #6 - Beauty And The Beast - 0.7/2 - 1.73 million viewers

is there a reason for this? I mean they do have good shows also compared to other networks...

This past week TVD was in second-to-last place because in last place was a repeat of a reality show.is there a reason for this? I mean they do have good shows also compared to other networks... The CW's viewers tend to be younger than other networks and they aren't in Nielson homes. To become a Nielson family it's rumored that you need a landline so they can find you in the phone book and get some info on you. If you're young, your phone (landline or cell) may be in your parents name. Nielson has very little info to go on and has to make sure they get a certain amount in an area, so they go with the people with the larger paper trail. AND because CW viewers tend to be younger that means they tend to be more tech savvy, so we're watching on DVRs and online -- all of which isn't counted by advertisers. (NOTE: DVR usuage is now being counted by Nielson, but only within 24 hours seems to really count.) CW shows are some of the most DVR'ed and most watched online. Nielson really doesn't have a great way to track this (if at all). THOUGH CW does collect online viewing stats from their website & Hulu. Also because the network is considered a teenybopper network, well...a lot of viewers don't take the network that seriously. As a result, they don't tune in to our shows b/c they think it must mediocre. Budget is another thing. The network is co-owned by CBS & WB, but the shows with the largest budgets don't get sent to the CW. So the CW has to adjust their advertising accordingly and target specifically who is tuning in, which is again, the tech savvy young adults & teens who aren't being counted by Nielson. Again, this is a bit stereotyping and I'm not saying BATB and the CW don't have older fans. My mom is the one who turned me on to BATB (which she was bragging to my friend this past Thursday -- even pointing out that I said I would hate the show & initially groaned and she had to force me to watch it & now I'm in the process of organizing a fan campaign for a second season - ha!). I will not say how old my mom is online because she'd hurt me , but I will say that she is obviously not a teenager and she loves TVD, Arrow, and BATB. She used to also watch Supernatural, but gave up last season....or the season before on it. She also watched Smallville when it was on. She watched The Secret Circle. I'm probably forgetting other CW shows... if we go to WB, she watched Angel, Buffy, Roswell. I mean my mom is not what people would think of when they think, "CW viewer." BUT because people do have a negative view of the CW's viewership (thinking we're all a bunch of teenyboppers feuding with other fandoms) and the quality of the shows...well, it hurts in the ratings. Because Nielson viewers will tune into the shows with good reviews and they are the main ones being counted. CW shows primarily get dissed a lot by the main/big critics.

I want to address the fact that TVBytheNumbers now has BATB has a likely renewal.
We cannot get cocky about this! This is based SOLELY on the past 2 weeks. The way TVBytheNumbers does things is it "resets" the numbers in January. This does not factor in our low numbers for the fall, and if we fall to a 0.6 or lower, we go back to the bubble or become a likely cancellation.
We lost viewers last week because of the Alex fiasco. Nielson viewers who based on the way ratings work are among the most important Beasties.
We need to keep focusing on spreading the word about the show & we need to really pay attention to all the campaigns - Twitter, Book Drive, and Fan Collage video.
If you haven't already, go to the bookstore and buy a BATB book. Get it all packaged and ready to be brough to the PO. If you're outside the US, either buy the book online and have it sent on your behalf (like Amazon will do) or go to the PO to send it off because there are Customs forms that need to be sent off. ALSO on the Customs form, specify that it is a gift. (That means you pay any fees, CW won't get hit with a fee to receive your package.)
If you haven't already, send Yolanda a picture of you holding a sign asking for BATB's renewal. All you guys making graphics, send your best to Yolanda for her fan collage video. I understand we have stuff going on, but make sure you get it to her before the deadline which is February 20th!
And we need to keep the 0.7! Make sure all bloggers talking about BATB know that Alex is out of here. Any article you see, comment that Alex's final episode is coming and that Valentine's Day is going to be all about VinCat. Let's get our viewers back up & keep the 0.7!! (Or possibly do better)

So I did a search just out of interest and here's how batb is doing in NZ NZ: Most watched on PRIME- From 1st February (assuming this is episode 3 as it started 18th January.) 1. Prime News: 136,400 (5:30pm – 6:00pm) 2. American Idol: 121,840 (7:30pm – 9:30pm) 3. Beauty and the Beast: 90,180 (9:30pm – 10:30pm) www.throng.co.nz/2013/02/tv-ratings-1-february-2013/Is there a site where we can search how it's doing in all countries?

Just like our 2 weeks of 0.7 don't mean anything if we suddenly drop to 0.5 or lower. We should get an announcement soon as to the fate of 90210. If 90210 is getting a shortened final season, that's more of a big deal than TCD having one good week. Let's see how TCD does over the next couple weeks.
