It think it is difficult to maintain momentum with a three week break (no matter how beastie we are!) ... It was also hard not to notice the lull on twitter and other forums over the last couple of weeks ... of course it picked up again with the smoking hot pictures and video ... but still. Can we get it back? I think so ... Sure seems to be a lot of chatter today anticipating the show tomorrow ... there is a definite buzz out there .... A couple of more promos would sure help!

Hart of Dixie was a re-run episode too this week and it also only got a .02 demo so thats why BatB only got an .02 this week. Had HOD been a new episode I'm sure we would have gotten at least a .03 again.
Hopefully these re-runs have attracted some new viewers and they'll tune in Tomorrow so we'll get at least an .06 or .07 if we're lucky.

Okay, gang, help me out here... I'm clueless about the whole ratings thang...
-How exactly do "they" know how many are watching BATB at a given time? -Are they checking in at a specific time, say 9:05 or 9:30? Or is it just anytime between 9 and 10pm? -What if you only get to watch the last half, does that count? -Is DVRing it different than watching it live? -If I re-record a repeat that I already have on my DVR, does that matter? -Do "they" know when you watch (and rewatch 100 times) something you've recorded on your DVR? Or only when you first record it?
Sorry for my naïveté! I need some expert info!

In a nutshell, they use a system where they have "Nielsen" families record all they watch, including who in the family watches what shows. The "Neilsen" families are suppose to represent the demographic breakdown of all viewers. So they multiply how many "Nielsen" members of a certain age watched a show and multiply it out. DVR is the same-they count the "Nielsen" family viewing of shows via DVR too. You cannot forward through commercials. They do break down the viewing into the first half hour and the second half hour. HOD lost a lot of viewers in the second half. BATB picked some up. Somehow they come up with a final number. You can google Nielsen families and get a lot of detailed info. DVR within 24 hours counts more than DVR +7. The way you can count is by watching on the CW site, buying the episodes on itunes, amazon and some say watching DVR but do not fast forward through the commercials. There are fan campaign discussions on this site for additional ways to help, trending with twitter, get glue etc. I often have the CW site running BATB while I work. It is great company and counts for something. I have seen several articles today focusing on the additon of Sendhil Ramamurthy and how he is going to really push the plot forward. It sounds very exciting. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/beauty-beast-sendhil-ramamurthy-gabes-428210 They have a good promo, and have had the opportunity to convert some HOD fans to BATB fans the past three weeks. I hate that we got an 0.2 but realistically they showed that episode less than 3 weeks ago. I think that 720,000 (HOD had 750,000) represents beasties and some new viewers. If enough of those new viewers tune in on Thursday (they did show the promo during the show) I am hopeful we will get back up to a 0.6. Watch for Fire and Ice posts-she is a rocket scientist when it comes to ratings.

Okay, gang, help me out here... I'm clueless about the whole ratings thang...
-How exactly do "they" know how many are watching BATB at a given time? They rely on Nielson ratings. The prior post gave a good breakdown of Nielson. What you need to know is that if Nielson didn't come knock on your door and installed their equipment in your house, you're not being counted in the numbers you see each week. Very few people are. I've seen conflicting numbers, but approx. 30,000-100,000 people total (from all the Nielson households) decide what is on American TV. Some of those are the numbers you see the next day, and then people get paper journals to mail in during busy times like Sweeps. -Are they checking in at a specific time, say 9:05 or 9:30? Or is it just anytime between 9 and 10pm? Nielson families check in every 15 min or 30 min (depending on what equipment they have). The 30 min numbers are what is given. I think on the paper journals they put down what they watched every 30 mins too. Not sure. There is a Beastie on here who did a paper journal so maybe they can give us some insight on that. -What if you only get to watch the last half, does that count? Yep. Each half hour counts if you're a Nielson viewer. -Is DVRing it different than watching it live? Depends. If you're an East Coast Nielson viewer who watches it Live then you add to the initial numbers that come out. Those who DVRed within the first 24 hrs + West Coast come out in the "final" numbers. Then there is 3 day, 7 day, and I think they may even do 10 days... I just did a bunch of paperwork so different figures are dancing in my head. haha. But I do know the Live + 3 is still very important to advertisers. The Live + 7, not so much to advertisers, but the Networks love to use it in their press releases. -If I re-record a repeat that I already have on my DVR, does that matter? -Do "they" know when you watch (and rewatch 100 times) something you've recorded on your DVR? Or only when you first record it? They know if you're a Nielson viewer. I know my repeating that is frustrating. But you watching on your DVR, unless you're a Nielson viewer, won't impact the ratings you see on sites like TVbytheNumbers. However, if you have Cable, Satellite, or some other paid TV service provider, then they'll know you're a fan of that show or network. Or at least that someone in your household is watching. The TV service providers use that in negotiations with the Networks, so it eventually gets to CW, but not in a way that impacts renew/cancel chances. However, the CW is a network that has been trying really hard to be progressive. As a result, they are tracking internet streaming of their shows on CWTV.com and Hulu.com. So if possible, try to watch them online, or at least let the episode play on your computer. Sorry for my naïveté! I need some expert info! I'm not an expert, but I have done a lot of research on this, so I hope my answers helped. The system is frustrating and outdated, but it's what Beasties have to work with.

Thanks so much for the excellent information, Fire and Ice and Dickens!! I'm starting to get the picture (pun intended!)... It's a bummer to know that my watching /recording doesn't make any difference to ratings! But I will definitely pull up episodes on CW and let them play over and over, if that will help!!
Is there a way to know who the Neilson households are? Can we petition them to watch? How often do these households change? Once a year?
Gotta say, seems like a pretty antiquated (dumb) way of gathering information. You'd think in today's age of technology they could come up with a better system. I'm sure they'll move towards that eventually...
Oh well, keeping fingers (and toes!) crossed!

Well now that I coming down from my high after that amazing episode, I hope these basketball games doesn't effect the ratings too much and we at least get an 0.6!

o.k., so I put tunnelbear on last night so I could watch it live on the cw and they weren't even playing it. They were playing tough love instead. Is this because of the basketball? I'm afraid for ratings because of the stupid basketball interference.

Here's a quote from spoiler tv with the early ratings. Not good... The CW capped off the evening in primetime with a below-average 1.8/ 3 in the overnights for “The Vampire Diaries†at 8 p.m., followed by struggling “Beauty and the Beast†at a 1.1/ 2 at 9 p.m. Of the current on the fence CW series, “Beauty and the Beast†is the least likely to return next season. www.spoilertv.com/2013/03/ratings-news-15th-march-2013.html

how can they expect good ratings when they didn't even show it at the scheduled time and in different times like 11:30 at night? Who's gonna stay up that late to watch besides us crazy beasties? That's not fair. I even tried to get ratings by watching live on cw and they didn't even have it on, so what do they expect? Dumb asses. This show better not get cancelled or I will complain big time.

We really are at the mercy of the broadcasters who discard shows on the basis of the antiquated, inaccurate and downright infuriating Nielsen rating system.

Got to hold on to the hope that the network will give our show a chance ... they must know that our viewership is not tied to nielson boxes .... it is selling well internationally and that counts ...

0.5 demo total viewers 1.54 not bad considering batb did not air in three states
