tonysol, I think the waiting needs to be over and I hope the next episode will turn the tide in some direction!! My jaw will hit the floor and I will fall out of my chair if we actually get a back story that begins to make sense...in a 13 episode season (and we are already getting midway there), it is hard to believe they will make any substantial progress (I so want to be wrong). What I would not give/do (no suggestions needed, I have a pretty vivid imagination) to have a formidable adversary for VinCat and a mythology that seems reasonable...I am not holding my breath, but they really need to start delivering on the character development/interaction side of things....I feel that they are floundering, and I , for one, am very close to beasting out! (Not a pretty sight!!!)

(Not a pretty sight!!!) I agree. I think that maybe what disappointed me most about this episode. Not that it was a bad episode in itself, but the overarching story needs to move on already. I hope the next episode does deliver. However, not to be all negative, there were things that I did very much enjoy in this episode. - The marriage counseling sessions. While it may have been a contrived framing device for the episode, the marriage counseling scenes were the high points of the show for me. It was cute, funny, nostalgic and sweet. I liked how they started sitting far apart and were angry with each other at the start. But by the end they were sitting close, hand in hand and back in love as they should be. The flash backs to S1 and S2 were great. - The case of the week. As Nick Roman pointed out in his reviews, I do like how S3 has gone back to the S1 formula of where the case of the week has elements that reflect something going on in VinCat's relationship. In this episode, it was nice to have the case not be centered on a superhuman for a change. I like that Cat was left to take down the bad guys on her own, as that's her job as a cop. While Vincent used his beast powers to save a life as a doctor. Although I do think it's a bit of a stretch that "co-dependence" would drive the wife to kill her husband. - The freezer scene and bed time scenes. These were both cute VinCat moments. But what I also liked is that the situations were reversed from previous episodes: a. Freezer: In the first two eps, Cat was afraid of Vincent going full primal and always needed to bring him back. In the last episode and in the freezer scene, it was Cat now telling him to go primal. b. Bed: In last week's ep, Vincent fell asleep before he could get the deed done. This week, he's sleeping but wakes up to make amends. For me it was a nice way to book end those two episodes. Although I still say they're over dressed for such scenes. A few other random thoughts... So what happened to Heather/Nicole this week? Nicole wasn't in any scenes, just JT talking to Heather on the phone but no actual scenes Why is nobody really concerned about JT? JT has every right to be concerned about his super healing power. While it might be cool, it's not normal and could come with severe side effects. But nobody else seems to give a shi-t. I also think his super healing power is the reason why the antidote didn't work on himself. The healing anti-bodies killing off the antidote.

Does a heart beat during a transplant surgery?? Or before they're finished with the aorta?? Why does Cat think closing the window would repel Bob and Carol or their expert marksmanship?? I'm concerned about JT! If you weren't sure of the outcome why would anyone throw themselves down the stairs? I think Austin should be concerned about the JT character! Although he did get to makeout with Nina again. That's a positive.

That is my only dislike of the season. Wouldn't care as much if we had 22 eps but we only have 13 and now 9 left. Time to get the stories moving forward

The flash backs to S1 and S2 were great. Nitpick: Vincat were never out of love, they were just highly annoyed with each other. Agreed. Nitpick: Make amends for what? If anyone should have been making amends in this episode it was Catherine, her overbearing behavior at last pushed me into wondering how Vincent managed to stay in love with her. It doesn't bother me that Vincat are clothed in bed. I guess it's because they are working on three years together now and the hot, all-consuming sexiness of their earlier couplings has now adopted a steady passionate glow (like smoldering coals after the fire's blaze has exhausted itself). To me it's realistic in that it reflects the pattern of deep love in relationships that have withstood the test of time and adversity. I know it's a bit disappointing to us beasties who want to see full on Vincat passion every single episode, but I am willing to settle for the unexpected explosions of passion that Vincat is fully capable of and that we sometimes get. Nitpick: Not to be mean or anything, but seriously. We can do a week or two without Heather. Every episode doesn't need to have her shoe-horned in. The others are preoccupied at the moment, and JT is trying to deal with his concerns on his own. But Team Vincat will rally once they realize that JT truly needs them.

Yes she can be annoying, but that's part of the fun!

Just another stand alone observation that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet...
The marriage counseling scene was another obvious nod to Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The show makers have done that several times before (E.g. S2's Ancestors & Till Death). I kind of like that they keep drawing the comparison. They know that VinCat's chemistry, whether at odds or passionately in love, is the show's greatest strength.

I understand your point, but I consider Nina and Austin's characters supporting with Nicole's character being a distant third, in the same category as any recurring character. I've never felt that Heather was a necessary component and that's never going to change. The fact that she hasn't matured in 3 seasons doesn't help her case either.

Heather/Nicole has a few good moments, but it's basically just a throwaway character that adds some eye candy to a show that already has plenty. Maybe she is already, but if I were Nicole I'd be lobbying for something more substantial. You may remember the silly scene in S1 with the tape measure.

The couples counselor scene is one that's been used (in various versions) in multiple TV shows and movies through the years. The three-way dialog can be fun and there's usually some sort of secret between two of the three people that makes the interplay work in a comic fashion. One that pops to my mind was Matthew McConaghey, Kate Hudson, and Kathryn Hahn in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Anyways....
Saul Rubinek is a fine character actor and believable as the insightful therapist in this case. I think if they just would have played the scene straight (without the flashbacks) using just Jay and Kristin's reactions and nervous dialog to provide humor, it would have worked fine.

Like to get some feedback on an idea I've mentioned to others here. I usually watch shows on NetFlix not TV. I can catch up on a whole season at once. I prefer that because each episode is sort of a chapter in the story and if one is weak, I move right on to the stronger ones. Also it's easier that way to remember important details from the beginning of the season.
Now here's the point: I almost always HATE anything I'm watching during the season, episode by episode. Kind of a trees instead of the forest effect.
Recently I watched BatB S2 again but on DVD. This time I had a lot of fun. You may remember I was pretty critical when we all watched it the first time. (Which it deserved) But the second time I still saw the weaknesses I moaned about before but this time I wasn't analyzing everything to death, being hyper-critical.
Not saying anyone here is doing that now. Just want to suggest that if you're patient, in a year you'll be able to binge-watch this on NetFlix.
Then it's really fun.

I would not say her purpose of being in the show is that of an eye candy though she is a beautiful girl. the aim is to add lightness to the show and she has served as a plot mover in the past - maybe not this season yet. but her more "immature" attitude is purposeful and something I personally enjoy -- not all characters in a show need to be fully rounded
