I haven't had the time to completely read everyone's comments yet, so pardon me if I repeat anything that else that someone has said. After all, great Beastie minds DO think alike!
I love that once Catherine meets Vincent in the warehouse, Vincent literally just CAN'T stay away. He won't risk her being injured further by Muirfield. He just basically starts tracking her everywhere, obviously, because he is in that remote part of the subway when the attack happens.
And Vincent just KNOWS that he can trust Cat in that subway scene. I mean, he could have just pocketed Catherine's gun and left it for her at the apartment later. He knows that she won't try to shoot him, even if she is afraid, which she CLEARLY isn't. Vincent trustingly kicks Catherine's gun to her and then turns his back to her as he runs away. So he KNOWS or suspects she will follow him, but she won't shoot him or threaten him with the gun. Since we didn't know about just how much control Vincent had over his Beast-side at this point, that was REALLY a Leap of Faith for Vincent. He just automatically trusted Cat. And she automatically trusted him.
A particular favorite scene of mine from the Pilot remains when Vincent takes Catherine back to the warehouse to treat her injuries after he has saved her once again in the subway. I LOVE the way KK delivers the line, "So are we going to talk about it?" She says this in such a shy, sweet way. She shows absolute TRUST in Vincent to take care of her injuries. She clearly never worries about Vincent losing control. And she automatically seeks to touch Vincent in order to comfort him when he is clearly feeling loathsome about himself and that he isn't human. It is like she just knows that Vincent needs her touch, and I LOVE how the camera basically shows that Vincent is both calmed by Catherine's touch and acceptance AND is obviously rather turned-on and attracted to said touch to the point that he automatically pulls back due to fear of what he might do in response to the obvious attraction.
In the Sherri and Jennifer commentary from the "Pilot" that is on the DVD, they mention that part of the scene in the warehouse between Catherine and Vincent was re-shot because they had originally ended that scene differently. Originally, when Vincent goes to get the beer for Catherine, she is so tired that she falls asleep on Vincent's bed. Vincent apparently spends the rest of the night watching her sleep and/or at one point falling asleep beside her. However, Jennifer and Sherri commented that the way that scene played out, people might infer that Catherine and Vincent slept together, so the decision was made to scrap that part of the scene and instead have Catherine wandering around Vincent's lab equipment and asking about his history. While I LOVE the way the final version played out, WHY OH WHY could they not have given us the original scene as an outtake on the DVD? I would have LOVED to see Vincent watching Catherine sleeping in his bed. SO SWEET.
I love how the Pilot shows the INSTINCTS of Catherine AND Vincent to trust one another. I mean, I love the TWO scenes where Catherine is so involved in looking at Vincent's picture, that the whole world goes quiet around her. Then, like with tunnel vision, you gradually get the sound/volume turned back up, and both times, Cat realizes that people are talking to her. And she just automatically covers for Vincent. It is just her INSTINCT to protect him, even when she doesn't fully understand his history and connection to her. And it is the SAME for Vincent, as evidenced by his coming out of the shadows to talk to Cat, DESPITE her having her gun drawn. He just KNOWS she won't shoot him AND that she will believe him.
And Vincent could have chosen to just leap out the window in the warehouse rather than talk to Cat. But he doesn't do this. He has obviously wanted a reason to actually MEET her for so long that he is downright RECKLESS in his attempts to protect himself. He WANTS a reason to talk with Catherine and meet her, despite the risk. He knows he can trust her. So BEAUTIFUL. Shows that there is this Epic Pull right from the very beginning. And THAT was what made me have to watch the series. The LOVE was there from the first time the two locked eyes with one another. Just destined that way.
