I think that the problem is that there are no Beasties with Neilson boxes that would truly make the difference. But as you know if you DVR the show and watch it with commercials and without fast fowarding commercials it counts. I personally watch the night airs in Canada(for board purposes only cause of the troubles with Season 2 and all that drama and cause many of the mods like to be spoiler free and someone has to view the thread) then I have my DVR set and I also watch on my tv card on my computer. Then once its 2 am I watch on demand too. And last but not least I stream it on CW everyday until the new episode airs. Isn't that enough? All the above counts for ratings in the live 3 day and 7 day Neilson not counting the tweeting during episodes which will also count eventually for rating. Didn't want to derail the thread this was in, but my understanding is that if you aren't part of the Nielsen Family, your DVR viewing does not count in the reported Live + 3 or Live +7 ratings information that is released. The network is probably interested and gathering that information, but you aren't helping with a show's Nielsen numbers. Here'a a couple of interesting ratings related stuff. Second one has some info on the 30 day rating networks are looking at: If I Am Not a Nielsen Family is My DVR Viewing Counted
No. Nielsen's DVR numbers are national projections based on the National People Meter panel which is about 20,000 homes (and ~50,000 people). At least theoretically "people like you" are represented in the Nielsen panel. It could be your DVR, Cable or Satellite provider does collect your data, but that data isn't part of the Nielsen time-shifted DVR ratings. tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2009/12/21/faq-do-dvr-viewers-matter/36917/
www.tv.com/news/3-new-ways-the-tv-networks-are-looking-at-ratings-but-do-they-matter-138386594868/[ I have been waiting for this show for a year – I will watch it online once it is available after the Canada airing (yes at 2am uk time) and so will others. It is not cheating really, and has no effect on the ratings. Ultimately ratings are based on the few thousand households which have a box – and I have NEVER met a beastie/fan who has a Nielsen box. Here's a link to a chart breaking down the Nielsen family numbers tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2014/10/05/how-many-people-are-in-the-nielsen-tv-ratings-panel/310975/So there are 20,000 Nielsen households containing about 50,000 people. If i'm reading this chart correctly, with a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demo, that means there are plus or minus around 66 Nielsen viewers in that demo watching a given episode of BATB. So in theory, all it would take would be getting another 22 of the 21,000 people in that demo to watch the show to raise its Nielsen rating to 0.4. On the other hand, tomorrow night opposite game four of the NBA finals on the east coast which last night got a 7.3 rating and over 18 million viewers, if 22 of last year's 66 Nielsen viewers decide to watch the game instead, we could debut with a 0.2 Nielsen rating.

Thank you for your research. I hope the numbers are up. I did write to complain to Showcase as their website and schedule guide indicated that this past Sunday the episode was to air at 8:00 ET and then they sent out a twitter indicating 9:00 ET. I complained that I'm trying to get people to watch this show and it doesn't help if they cannot get the times straight. They actually tweeted again apologizing and they included the correct time at 8 ET. I think the early time (Pacific Time) this coming Sunday's episode is down as 5p.m

Showcase had two showings on Sunday for BatB and also a repeat during the following week which is way more than CW does for the show

Sorry guys, correct me if I am wrong, but I am really worried! I don't think a little publicity in the last minute it is enough.. And the fact the show airs four days before in Canada and the next day most beasties see it on internert is fatal... ( It doesn't help anyone: audience and ratings and only encourage ilegal viewing in internet, i don't understand WHY they do this! ?) The sites here in my country are silent and the fans that used to full them with comments are gone... I don't want to be negative, beacuse I really want the show to succed! Do you think USA fans have watched the episode? I don't know...I am expecting 1.0 or 2.0. Please someone, say good stuffs for me...

More like 0.2 to o.3 based on past experience but hope I am wrong Last year we had overnights that were 0.7 which translated to .3 but just depends on the age of the 0.8 who were watching.

I d say ratings are not that bad since they have remained steady. We can always hope that a few more Nielson households may decide to tune in next week.

Okay why does it surprise you? First off this confirms that those that watch are loyal fans. We didn't lose anyone even after a year off air and the viewers are slightly higher then last year. So the optimist I am is okay with the ratings. People joked that we would get a 0.1 or 0.2 but I always knew that wouldn't be the case. Be happy ...be proud!
Again a year without it being on air and still come out with the same ratings.

I have always strongly disapproved of this rating system as it is very flawed due to only surveying a few households. The true determination of the success of any televised production comes from a consensus of all viewing households, no matter the medium used by the viewer. It has always been revealed that a greater number of households are watching shows either through television sets, computer, tablets and even smart phones. Because this systems are not being included shows when tabulated are being given dismal ratings. To get a truer rating these systems should be built into each viewing medium. But I suspect the power behind this rating system may disagree. I do agree that some people do not want to be included for privacy reasons but there is always a disable switch which each consumer can activate when they wish to be excluded from anything, correct!

More to say that a lot of old viewer disappointed by S2 are very skeptical about return to watch the show and i've read comments that they want wait for other episode review before starting follow the show another time... And with that small amounth of promo only close to the premier surely doesn't helped (better than nothing... but too late maybe) and some people doesn't have time to notice the start of the new season if they aren't followinf forum and twitter trends anymore
