Add me to the list of those completely and utterly obsessed with all things BATB. I watch and re-watch the episodes and look at everything anew. Did I like the character development in this episode? Did I like how the character was portrayed? Did the writers do things I did or didn't like and why? You get the point. I hyper obsess and over-analyze and then do it all over again.
I even just bought the new BATB book off Amazon because I wanted to show my support of the show in any form. And I have to say, the book wasn't too bad, although the writer does get a few things wrong, strictly speaking from cannon. However, one of those things (the fact that Joe got divorced from his wife) was never actually SAID on the show. Just the actor that played Joe (Brian White) said that they told him as part of the backstory that he divorced his wife --which was why he considered making his relationship with Tess public. Still, they never said that on the show, and the author explained the Joe/Tess split as being because Joe's marriage had gotten better.
The book did put its on spin on the whole Tori and Gabe triangles. And the author chooses to portray Cat as still a little worried about Vincent's beast issues, which I think have been more fully resolved with Cat on the show from 216 forwards (and the book clearly takes place sometime after 216 but before 222).
The book also almost makes Vincent's beast a separate entity from Vincent. I'm still not sure that is what the show portrays exactly. The book states that Vincent identifies with his Human Side, the part of him brought out by Catherine. So it is almost like Vincent is portrayed as having a split personality. And I don't know exactly what to think about that. The show itself has never really let us hear Vincent's internal monologue to determine just how much or how little control he really has over his beast side and if it is really a sort of separate personality/entity. I would LOVE to have the show actually deal with this issue, especially as to whether or not Catherine fully understands it.
I loved in Season 1 how it was implied that Catherine COULD control Vincent's beast. In the immigrant episode, when Vincent is in the basement and his beast has emerged, he wants to attack the guy who came to kill the little girls. But Cat is able to plead with Vincent in beast form and even touch his face, calming him down with her words and actions. You are not really sure just how much Vincent actually understands, but you can SEE his focus on Catherine and his trying to calm himself and focus entirely on her, for her sake. And I LOVED that. I felt that Catherine DID appeal and relate to Vincent's dark side. So I did NOT like the Season 2 implications that Catherine was a match for Vincent as a human, but a beast would be a better mate to his beast side. SO didn't like this. That almost implies that Vincent is truly two different things rather than like the Incredible Hulk, where the Hulk was just a more id-like version amped up on adrenaline.
Obviously, I could (and do) go on for hours about anything BATB-related. They had me from the Pilot.
