^ Lol agreed!
I feel like we have talked about the 'bad' so much throughout the season. I like this thread and that we can really look at all that good in this season.

Is there gonna be a separate thread for the Worst/Hated scenes? Or are we posting them here? Cuz I have a few moments I want to just rattle off right now I hated them so much

Is there gonna be a separate thread for the Worst/Hated scenes? Or are we posting them here? Cuz I have a few moments I want to just rattle off right now I hated them so much I'd prefer having a thread on just the positives and another on the negatives. So my vote is to keep those worst/hated scenes separate from this thread.

Beast is the New Black is also my number one pick.
Beyond that, I honestly don't remember the first half of the season well enough to give a fair appraisal of my top 10 episodes or favorite scenes. I'll need to re-watch the entire season back to back before I comment. I can say I completely enjoyed 2x15 through 2x22. I also can say that I didn't really "hate" any episode this season, just liked some episodes better than others.

Well Yolie did such a great job w/ her list. A lot of the ones I wrote down were already on her list. So if I repeat some I apologize - when V protects Cat from the sniper in Held Hostages and they end up on the floor together. V: U turned the lights off C: U didnt leave - Loved the end V and JT scene at 212. Both actors were absolutely amazing in that scene - Loved the whole Mr. & Mrs. Smith (or Keller) if you prefer dance scene in Liar Liar. The sexual tension in that scene was so thick. - When V gets more of his memories back of Cat back and the whole VinCat kicking boxing scene after that - the whole scene in 2x07 when VinCat are upstairs in the bedroom and Cat wants to get busy -When Cat begs V in 2x08 to choose them instead of killing Reynolds. I just loved the depth of emotion that both actors played in that scene. It was so heartbreaking The whole phone convo between V&C in 2x12. The old V is starting to emerge and you can tell that he wants to be in Cats life again as more than friends, even if hes not quite ready to admit it to himself yet - Loved the whole convo between VinCat in 2x13 @ JT's when Cat tells V to stop being Pro-Gabe - Both dream sequences in 2x14, (except the part where Cat pushes V) - When V tells JT in 215 that he wants Cat back - Loved the scenes in 216 when VinCat talk to their BFF's about the night before (V: Thought last night meant something special between us. V: It was Great. And that smirk he gives JT ) Loved the VinCat morning scene in 2x16. Flashbacks included. Two things though I never understood. Why is the AMP scene in Cats dreams? Wasnt that a Vincent dream? Loved the fact when Cat was sneaking out she didnt wake V up. For someone w/ super spidey senses like V, Cat mustve put him into a sound sleep not to have woken him up when she left. Loved that his arm was protectively around her. - Loved V being strip search. Any scene where Jay Ryan is shirtless is a great scene - JTnT in bed together - Cat & Tess' talk in the cemetery and Tess calling VinCat "EPIC" - When V tracks Cat at her apartment and sees the blood and tears well up in his eyes. - V&JTnT convo at the diner in 2x18 - When V tells Cat to tell Heather "No more lies" - every time Cat referenced to sleeping w/ V - V talking to the fish - when V confronts April and says "Hate it when she's right" - when V saves Cat at the end of 220 and hugs her. The tears again! - when Cat asks "Can we go home now? - VinCat talk in "Times Square" bout why V fell in love w/ her - V&JT talk at the hostil about JT not being adventurous enough - Loved when Cat came back from Gabe's and was beating around the bush in telling V about the date "Okay, Come on, Please whats the condition? - the whole scene where VinCat is arguing about Gabe while V is still wearing the mustache. And after Cat leaves he throws the mustache Loved when JT tracks Cats phone for V and V just cant relax and JT almost has to tranq him. JT's line "And he thought I didnt have any animal DNA" When Cat gets home n V is there waiting for her, and how pained he looked over Gabe kissing Cat - Loved when V beast out over seeing Cat enter Gabe's apartment - the hug after they save Gabe, and the balcony scene afterwards "You are a free man" kiss - Hostil vinCat scene. Just the way he crawls over to her - VinCat morning scene in 222 when V comes rushing into the bedroom to see if Cat is okay - All the Ralister scenes. - One of my favorite ALL TIME Scenes is when Cat is planting V's blood and it flashes between present stuff and the period scenes - loved how V rushed to Cat after she killed Gabe and their hug afterward (love the forehead kisses) - the whole JT isnt gonna make it scene. All 3 of them played the emotions on their faces perfectly. It was heart wrenching. -Final 222 scene. My Top 10 1. Operation Fake Date 2. DejaVu 3. Cold Case 4. Beast is the New Black 5. About Last NIght 6. Who Am I 7. Hot Head 8. Held Hostages 9. Catch Me if You Can 10. Kidnapped Can I just say I loved all the music this season? Don't worry, I'm getting to that part too! The music, likes and don'ts of season 2 LOL Let's ponder on the best and worse first! BTW, the WORST scenes and episodes of season 2 thread now open

Believe it or not, despite how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE all VinCat romantic scenes, some scenes that made my list were with Vincent and Cat talking to other people about their love or realizing something about themselves as a result of someone else's situation. I haven't gotten together my "official" list of favs. I'm going off the top of my head for scenes that meant the most to me, especially when I was analyzing the growth (or regression) of a character. Again, these are in NO PARTICULAR ORDER at this point. I'm just typing as they come to mind, for right now. Over the weekend, I will think in depth and, of course, re-watch favorite episodes and scenes to figure out why they mean so much to me.
So here goes my preliminary list:
#1 Vincent's speech to Sam in "About Last Night." Why is this number 1 for me? Because so many people couldn't understand why Catherine seemed so convinced that she needed to be with Gabe and could then so quickly be back and epic with Vincent. Well, to me, this scene said it all. Vincent PLEADS with Sam because he realizes just how closely he came to BEING SAM. Vincent KNEW firsthand what Revenge costs you. Vincent tells Sam that the path he has chosen was the same one chosen by Vincent, and it only cost Vincent pain. What Vincent has come to realize is that nothing was worth losing his soul and Catherine. And he knows he made the wrong choice before. And Vincent wants so badly to save Sam, despite what he has done, in the same way that Catherine wanted to save Vincent and others. The speech is what shows Catherine that Vincent has not only changed, but he has grown and has his moral and ethical center back. Vincent stared over the brink but found his way back. And you just see all the range of emotions cross Catherine's face, and you KNOW she just gets it. And Catherine just falls in love with Vincent all over again because of the man he has become. He wants to save people again FOR THE RIGHT REASONS and wants to be someone that Catherine could love.
#2 Vincent and Catherine afterglow scene in the morning from "About Last Night." Vincent telling her that he never wants to hurt her again. (Which just tells the viewer that he is fixing to unintentionally hurt her because this is, after all, "Beauty and the Beast," and that is just what the writers always do to us just when things are starting to go good for VinCat.) Vincent seems so vulnerable here like he just can't believe he got Catherine back. And he says, in that perfect almost little-boy-lost voice "you didn't leave." AWWWWW!
#3 Vincent's phone call to Cat the morning after houseboat sex in "About Last Night." Really, anyone want to guess my favorite episode of the season? This PHONE CALL. It was SO GREAT for so many many reasons. First, Vincent calls Catherine out on her saying it was just "breakup sex." He tells her he KNOWS when she is lying, even over the phone. And now that he knows Cat still has feelings for him, he concludes the call with telling her he will NOT give up on them. Vincent isn't going to hold his feelings in anymore. He is letting Cat know that he is coming for her, and nothing and no one is going to keep them apart. He is not going to wimp out or be convinced that he is bad for Cat like he was shamed by Gabe in episode 215. He is coming for what is his! And Catherine IS and ALWAYS WAS HIS! You go Vincent!
#4 Vincent/JT and Cat/Tess scene about the VinCat sex from 215 in "About Last Night." Of course, nothing else is on either Cat or Vincent's mind except what just happened and what it could mean. So both just HAVE to talk to their BFF about it. And the conversation goes the same way: the sex WAS meaningful and clearly not just break-up sex.
#5 Vincent and Cat's conversation about Sam after his arrest in "About Last Night." Vincent's memories are clearly all back, more or less, as we learn in this episode. On TWO different occasions, Vincent refers to his memories of the past. The first is when he tells Cat that he remembers EVERYTHING masquerade-ball wise from the previous year. The second reference to memories is in this conversation. Vincent admits that he tracked Muirfield originally because he wanted revenge and that he was very much like Sam and so close to being lost. However, Cat saved him from all that, in part by loving him and making him someone that wanted to love in return. Vincent ended up choosing Love over Hate/Obsession due to Cat. (YES, I know that Vincent's choices are HIS OWN and that he deserves credit for keeping himself from losing it. BUT, lets face it, Catherine was the reason and the means to giving him courage and a reason to fight for his soul. So this speech acknowledges where all he came from and lets Cat know again that he won't go back, no matter where their relationship goes. And Catherine knows again that Vincent's change is solidly based on doing things for the right reasons. So she knows that she will choose Vincent and not Gabe. Gabe who?
#6 Snippets from other scenes in "About Last Night." Seriously, the VinCat humor: "I'll show YOU change, Catherine Chandler." "I'm not a damsel in distress, I don't need a white knight in shining armor." "Just don't expect me to save you again." "We have to break up?"--Vincent --"To find Sam." per Catherine. "I take it that this is your second marriage?" "Obviously, I don't make decisions for Catherine." HeeHeeHee. Loved ALL of these.
#7 Catherine coming to tell Vincent that she can't see him anymore in "Catch Me If You Can." She just can't do it. She can't walk away. BUT Vincent has not given her ANY reason to really think that he actually wants her back. I mean, yeah, she has guessed it. But Vincent won't come out and SAY that he wants her and will fight for her. And in this scene, Vincent tells her that he "knows he can't make her happy." And Cat just can't help but say that it is NOT that. And the implication is clear that Vincent makes her very happy, when he is his own dear sweet self. And Cat just inwardly wants Vincent to REALLY tell her what he wants. So she keeps invading his personal space. The sexual friction just keeps amping up until BOOM! Vincent can't help himself. All the best intentions go out the window. He has to try to get back what is so obviously his. And the rest is history (and a really incredibly sexy scene that SHOULD have gone on for longer. If it had, this scene would be even higher on my list.).
#8 The car scenes, both before and after the crash in "Catch Me If You Can." I mean, HELLO, even when they quarrel, they are HOT! Arguing over morality and what their aims should be. How they should save the victim first, which Catherine almost seems to have forgotten. Cat's life is a mess and she can't even see it. To me, it is a metaphor for Catherine AND Vincent's life that they both end up suspended/trapped upside down in the car. THEY HAVE TO RIGHT THEMSELVES TOGETHER. It takes BOTH of them working in tangent in order to get out of the seatbelts and rightside up in the damaged car. Yes, the car is then still damaged, like the wrecks of their life, but they are back to being together and right side up again as a result of their efforts together.
#9 "If Vincent's dead, you're dead!" from Cat to Sam in "Catch Me If You Can." Yes, she has seen what Revenge costs you. Yes, she knows that there is a certain line you can't cross or you lose your humanity, whether you are Beast or Human. Yet, when it comes to her facing the possible loss of Vincent, Catherine will gladly cross that line and come for Sam, come heck or high water, if Sam has knowingly killed Vincent, despite the consequences. Cat WILL be that cop that crosses the line if Vincent has been killed. And I love her for her flaw, just this once, in this particular scene. It lets you know RIGHT THEN just how much Vincent means to her. She loves him. Period.
#10 Cat just having to hug Vincent in "Catch Me If You Can." How can a HUG say ten thousand words? Well, this one did. It says how proud she is of him because she recognizes how far he has come. And Vincent is so determined to save the victim and just won't give up on the man. And you are just so heartbroken for Vincent until the guy IS proven to still be alive. And Vincent was willing to risk it all, for the right reasons. And Cat just LOVES this, even if she is not completely sure if Vincent has changed permanently or not. After all, at the beginning of the episode, Vincent's change for the better was questionable after he beasted-out and was clearly going to attack an unarmed Sam in his cell. Yes, Sam used "fighting words," but Vincent seemed unable to control himself there. But here, in this scene, despite the carnage and bomb and everything else, Vincent never lost sight of the real reason to be there. AND he let Cat take on Sam herself, without questioning whether or not she needed protection. So Cat's HUG is just something that sums it all up AND shows us that she sees that Vincent is truly finding his way back to himself, the man that she so desperately and completely loves.
Okay, it has taken me an hour just to type this. And I haven't even hit "Kidnapping" yet. Or "Operation Fake Date." Or my other favorites. Will continue this list over the weekend.
LOVE LOVE THIS THREAD! GREAT IDEA VINCAT 3.0!!!!! Can't wait to get back here and keep REMEMBERING THE BEST of the season!!! AND LOVE reading what others like!!

LOL exactly everything I need you wrote about the eps...if I wrote the reasons along with the scene you'd be reading a book!

So here goes my preliminary list: #1 Vincent's speech to Sam in "About Last Night." Why is this number 1 for me? And he says, in that perfect almost little-boy-lost voice "you didn't leave." All right. FINALLY getting back to re-capping favorite scenes. (Actually have to do something while waiting for my very slow laptop to download "Cold Case" from ITunes.)
#21 favorite scene --from "Beast Is The New Black" The Gem Scene - "You are my gem. I want to take you with me everywhere." What was not to love? What should have been an extremely sappy line was so perfectly said, so obviously felt in the scene, that it finally ended Catherine's lingering doubts about whether or not Vincent truly wanted to be with her. I mean, right before the line was said, Catherine saw Vincent hesitating about taking her with him and states, "unless you don't want me with you." I mean, the two had never lived together before. Going on the run together would essentially put them together full-time, and Cat wonders if Vincent really wants that. And what was so amazing to me is that after Vincent's speech, HE seems to realize just how much he wants Cat with him anywhere and always. So much so that when the helicopters begin to circle, he is determined to risk getting captured or shot to TRY to take Cat with him. She has gotten him to see his future, and he knows he wants it with her. It is therefore CATHERINE that has to talk some sense into Vincent by saying that they would never make it. However, the whole gem speech has made Vincent realize that he just doesn't want a life without Catherine, no matter the risks, which is what ultimately causes him to turn back at the end. I truly think that if not for the whole gem speech, Vincent was truly of the mindset that he was really leaving forever that night, without Catherine. Vincent had accepted it. He had meant it when he told Catherine that it would be their last night together. But Catherine's questioning of him made him realize that life just wasn't life without her. Being back together MEANS forever, no matter what, from the end of this scene onwards.
#22 companion scene to #21, so to speak, from "Beast Is The New Black" The Scene: the prison conversation between Cat and Vincent We see Vincent's insecurities here. He tells Cat that significant jail time for him changes nothing for what he hopes and dreams will eventually happen: a life with Cat. However, when Cat says she loves him, Vincent states that he hears the "but." But Cat states she loves him, no "buts." And she is desperate enough to come forward, face jail time herself, loss of her reputation and job just to maybe save Vincent. And Vincent just won't let her make that sacrifice to lose everything for him when it might not even pay off. So Vincent gets to see just how far Cat has come. In "Reunion," Cat was seriously feeling the burdens of a VinCat relationship and all that she had sacrificed to be with Vincent. In "Beast Is The New Black," there are no regrets or questioning of the relationship anymore: Cat is really all-in. Vincent is WORTH whatever sacrifice that she has to make for him. This scene (and #21 above) show that Cat is willing to risk her freedom and future to either help Vincent or be with him.
#23 The Shower Scene from "Beast Is The New Black" I mean, Vincent finds a way to make a BATHROOM romantic, even if Catherine almost killed the mood before it started by pointing out that what were they supposed to do if she needed to pee. And the writers have found a subtle way of letting us know that Vincent truly has his memories back AS WELL AS the emotions associated with them. (It has always been one of my pet theories that Vincent's flashes of Cat originally were so brief that he didn't have the chance to FEEL what he had felt during those moments. Thus, although he remembered that he knew Cat, he didn't remember just how much he loved her. And I think that had something to do with how Reynolds programmed him, because Bob would have LEAST wanted Vincent to remember Cat. That is why Vincent can remember significant whole scenes related to his brothers YET cannot remember anything more than flashes of Cat for so long.) Vincent showing he could be so sweetly romantic and surrender himself to the moment, no matter what may come next, makes them both so desperate to be together thereafter, no matter what. And Cat needs romancing. It just goes to show that Gabe couldn't even romance Catherine effectively in Mexico with massages and everything traditionally romantic, but Vincent could capture a perfect moment with just a smartphone and a shower with a broken drain.
#24 The Handcuffs Scene from "Beast Is The New Black" The fact that Vincent so quickly corrects Cat that it is the FOURTH time he has cuffed her just lets you know again that not only has he gotten back his memories, he has obviously been dwelling on some PARTICULARLY enjoyable moments with Cat, rather romantic or sexual or both. And the double kiss move and longing looks. The banter between the two as well as the TRUST. Cat trusts Vincent's judgment and motivation in cuffing her. Vincent is thinking of Cat FIRST in this scene, as he will linger for a little longer, barely making it out in time even with his blur power, in order to make sure that Cat won't look like an accessory-after-the-fact in his escape. So Vincent is willing to make it worse for himself in order to put Cat in a better position. AWWWW. (Also allows the viewer to compare GABE'S actions in that Gabe has not even THOUGHT about how bad it could make Catherine look if she is found wtih Vincent, again, in her apartment. Emphasizes Gabe's selfishishness and self-centerness versus Vincent's willing to sacrifice everything, even being apart from Cat, to truly protect her.)
#25 The Roof Scene (at the episode's end) from "Cold Case" Vincent griping about the lack of sex. So like a guy. And Catherine just ready to go, all willing and able, right THEN, despite it being obviously cold as all get-out on the ROOF where ANYONE could walk in on them. I mean, even Cat's NEIGHBORS know that she is on that roof an awful lot. That scene manages to be so darn HOT, despite it being so short and another ultimate interruptis moment.
Again, the importance of this scene also is found in the fact that Cat didn't find Mexico romantic with Gabe. She was just going through the motions. She even wore sexy lingerie to please Gabe because obviously so much was lacking, at least for her, in the relationship. So everything had to be about how it "looked" and trying so hard to make something so empty work. But with Vincent, he is turned on by her flannels. No lingerie necessary for him to want her. No need for romantic location. Because the Romance is with them no matter where, no matter when.
To properly sum up this scene: THAT'S LOVE BABY, to not mind in the least the potential scratch marks that WILL be left on your butt from brick and gravel on a roof just to get some groiny time with the love of your life. HeeHeeHee.
Okay, that's another hour just for this post. I'm going to go re-watch some Season 2 episodes and continue listing favorite scenes tomorrow. Because we all need to dwell on VinCat goodness during this Hiatus (which is KILLING me!!!!!!!!!!).

I just realized that I forgot to post my #11 through #20 scenes. This is actually quite comical, as the scenes that landed in these slots are actually what are potentially the most controversial of my chosen scenes AND are even some scenes that I would rather hadn't happened, due to what results later. I mean, when VinCat swear they love each other to one another, you know it is a fave scene. No controversy there for Beasties. However, when they walk away without talking, run from each other, etc., it SHOULD be a scene you would hate, BUT has the potential to be a favorite scene because of the REASONS behind the running. Again, these are also "controversial" because other Beasties see them differently and say they never should have happened in the first place. Well, on with the list, come what may.
#11 --The Dance Scene from "Liar, Liar" For an episode about dishonesty, there is a LOT of VinCat HONESTY that finally results in this episode. What I love first about this scene is that Catherine goes straight up to Vincent, grabs his hand, and confronts him. (Even at VinCat's "worst," Catherine can still vocalize things and talk things out with Vincent. From the time Cat engages in a relationship with Gabe, she can never talk with him really about anything. She doesn't even know herself. She just goes through the motions.) There are ultimatums in this scene, confrontations, the works. Catherine makes it clear that if Vincent goes rogue, she'll tranq his rear-end. And Cat calls Vincent out on his behavior about "faking" his memory of them. And she tells Vincent that she went undercover at his boathouse, lied or hid her injury that he had given her, got allies etc. ALL just to try to find out about his life and missions since he wouldn't tell her. She continues to try to protect Vincent, even at risk to her. She lets Vincent know that she did what she did out of LOVE, not Revenge. And Vincent is fairly calm in this scene, meaning that he doesn't really seem to doubt Cat's explanations once given. Vincent ends up giving her information, even though BOTH recognize that the "dance" is really an interrogation, although with great clothes and location. It is Vincent and Catherine truly dancing around each other and feeling each other out, learning one another. They each take charge at sometime during the dance (as evidenced by telling the other one when to Spin or Dip). Neither gives ground AND explanations are made. Both probably feel remorse for how their actions have been interpreted by the other. AND ABOVE ALL ELSE, BOTH of VinCat are truly all-in as far as a dance with each other, couple-wise. And you see how the two just work so well together, both on and later off the dance floor. It is really through the efforts of both that Sebastian is stopped.
I also find it VERY interesting that ONLY after this Dance does Vincent finally obtain actual memory flashes of Cat. Vincent has a better understanding of Cat and her motivations based on the dance. And Vincent DOES know how much Cat means to him already, even pre-flashes, because when Sebastian threatens Catherine immediately thereafter, you can see the impact the threat has to Vincent. Vincent begins frantically looking for Cat. It is no longer about the mission but about keeping Cat safe. None of Vincent's other "saves" of Cat in episodes 201 or 202 had made him remember Cat. But this save is different, in my opinion, because Vincent has begun to understand Cat, based on that dance. Cat's love and devotion are worth having, and potentially losing her in that elevator causes the right kind of adrenalin spike, coupled with emotions, that finally triggers memory flashes for Vincent.
#12 --Sex at the boathouse in "Kidnapped" --BUT WAIT, the aftermath (that I hated) caused by this scene makes it so crucial and revealing for what is to come, although I didn't know it at the time. So is a "fave" scene more for the TRAGIC implications of just WHY VinCat can't come back together yet, even when they seem to feel the pull to do so. For every step forward that happens for VinCat during the first six episodes of Season 2, there is a betrayal or costly step backwards that follows and causes both to question everything. Disconnect follows disconnect, and although progress seems to be coming, it takes so little to undermine what trust, if any, was truly there to begin with. Take the whole sex in the boathouse as a prime example.
I LOVED this scene initially because it shows how powerful a pull VinCat have towards one another. However, each partner has separate motivations and denials for jumping into bed so quickly when really neither one knows the other at this point. Vincent can't remember Cat. And she has no proof of their relationship. Vincent believes Cat IN THE MOMENT when she is in front of him and talks about their love, and then doubts her following her actions thereafter. Cause and effect. Keeps happening the whole first part of Season 2. And the particular cause and effect of this scene left me reeling and feeling both relieved that the moment happened and dirty because of the way Vincent wanted to spin the scene when it suited him. And even in the calculating way that Cat takes advantage of the situation to seduce the ex, the term she actually gave to JT originally. Vincent is still so quick to doubt Cat as evidenced by her showing up at the club and his actions towards her. Vincent, in turn, is obviously so hurt that Cat would believe that he is there at the club to hurt the girl. Vincent has always been about saving lives (EVEN WHEN BRAINWASHED--I mean, Reynolds plays on this theme time and time again so even HE doesn't question Vincent's wanting to save lives), so Vincent just assumes that Cat understands that his missions are about saving lives. Vincent believes he volunteered for his missions, sacrificed so much including memories, in order to save people. So the fact that Catherine doesn't even seem to believe his motivations AND questions his core humanity, duties as a soldier, and implies that he has been brainwashed truly is WHY I believe that Vincent struck out at Catherine by episode's end. It was out of hurt, not a desire to cause hurt. (Doesn't make it one jot less icky, I can tell you.)
Despite his denial of what a VinCat hook-up actually meant, Vincent over and over again keeps coming back to Cat in this episode. Vincent never wants to let her go. He wants to believe her motivations for getting close to him ARE, in fact, to be with him. Yet Vincent tries to keep himself emotionally distant from Cat. And this NEVER works, for either Vincent or Catherine, in Season 2. Every time that Vincent and Catherine try to retreat from one another or deny what they really mean to each other, the result ends up being potentially lethal, because the anger and inner resentment/being torn with oneself and unable to know oneself results in BOTH Cat and Vincent being potentially lethal to others (221, 202 for starters. arguably 208. 210 certainly).
So we see from the results of the Boathouse Sex the trend of themes that will follow throughout Season 2: do things for the right reasons (like go to bed with someone out of love and a SOLID place in the relationship, not just because you want to trigger memories. Otherwise, your significant other WILL feel used--and this applies to BOTH VinCat-- when they think you weren't in the moment with them due to a need to connect and feel love. Remember, Vincent hurts Cat by claiming was a random hook-up or one night stand, DESPITE the fact that he can NEVER leave Cat alone and will seek her out as soon as he disposes of the body. But Vincent is reacting in HURT to Cat sleeping with him to get him to be someone else rather than the guy with her now, if she would so believe that the guy he is now is really quite wretched); know yourself AND your motivations for entering into that relationship (Again, applies to VinCat in their dealings with others--they end up in meaningless relationships in order to make the betrayal and hurt go away rather than understanding their own core feelings, trusting in the other person, and working things out together, no matter how painful); and question your motivations or you end up harboring anger and resentment that WILL lead to violence. I mean, look how this episode ends. Vincent is probably just as hurt by Cat in that she comes running after him in the club, with some other guy to boot, stating that SHE is actually the one there to do the saving as she thinks Vincent would knowingly harm an innocent. How can she claim to love someone that she actually thinks would be capable of that? YES, I can see how Vincent would see it that way BECAUSE he doesn't understand that Cat is actually RIGHT about the brainwashing/manipulation. And Cat sees their sex as a reason why Vincent should let her in on his missions, again causing Vincent to question her motivations behind getting into bed with him.
So the Boathouse Sex in 202 is SO MUCH MORE and causes a Betrayal, from BOTH ends, that from this point really, in my opinion, separates VinCat and keeps them from getting back together. Because NEITHER could ever interpret their own actions and feelings and figure out what it meant. (If you can't love or trust your own self, you certainly can't love another. AND THAT is the OVERALL theme of Season 2.)
And Vincent's seeming betrayal at the club followed later by the rooftop slap heard round the Beastie World causes resentments within Cat to bloom and grow based on her feeling she is giving EVERYTHING to get Vincent back and getting nothing but hurt and betrayal back. You'd think that the two would learn from this scene what potentially meaningless sex can do to oneself and the damage to someone else as well. But no, even here, the two can't get what something means SO they are DOOMED to repeat their mistakes with others (Gabe and Tori) only to figure out that HEY, IT DID mean something, even then.
So the AFTERMATH of Boathouse Sex actually goes on my "worst" and "hate" list while I enjoyed it in the moment. I still believe that VinCat went into the sex wanting a deeper connection. But everything that happens thereafter causes them to question everything AND doubt the other. Which causes every disconnect and epic-love relationship multilation that happens through the rest of the season until the two finally realize, through Sam's mess, that they really want to be together for the right reasons and motivations AND a true epic love for one another which CAN provide a solid foundation of trust for the future.
#13 Ending scene of "Liar, Liar" --The window being the metaphor for the separation between Vincent and Catherine. Vincent is effectively shut out of her life. It is still a favorite scene because it shows how broken these two people are, BUT that BOTH really DO want a SOLID relationship based on love and trust. The love is there, deep down. I never really questioned that. But the fragmentation of the individual that continues for both causes BOTH to feel like they are floating out to sea, alone, in an individual raft without a paddle. There is no true shore to go to. Tragic and heartbreaking. Cat shuts the window because she truly can't figure out a way to keep Vincent in her life without knowing what said life is all about. Cat has had her whole world turned upside-down. Her sister is leaving from her life effectively, due to distance. Of course, that distance has been there for awhile due to one lie. And her parents seeming endless state of lies would have to make Catherine question how she can ever truly know anyone, particularly if said person won't give her the facts. So Catherine is a mess. And Vincent is a mess. And the reasons that they are a mess can't be shared with one another due to the circumstances that each finds themselves in. So yes, I would have loved to have seen Catherine go out onto the fire escape, crawl into Vincent's arms, and tell him that she will take the little of himself that he is able to give. However, I get why that would NEVER be enough for her, under the circumstances. And Vincent NEEDS the wake-up call from Cat that she ISN'T just going to overlook the very BIG thing of him being unable to tell her about his missions, the very thing that he supposedly gave her up for (I mean, Vincent still believes he volunteered for all of this in order to save lives. Implies that he KNOWINGLY gave up Cat and his memories in order to do so. And Vincent still doesn't accept Cat's version of events that he was kidnapped and brainwashed. So there can be no mutual meeting of the minds until THAT gets resolved.). Cat's Intervention into Vincent's life has led to the FIRST real questioning of Vincent of his handler, although the programming readily seems to kick back in and keep Vincent trusting in a voiceless handler that won't give a name or even his trust voice to him. (I am ASSUMING that it is the programming. Other than ONE mention of Vincent's programming made by Bob, we never really found out what it exactly was designed to do in its entirety and the triggers and means of breaking it. YES, I would have liked more from the writers about this. But the Amnesia storyline was so unpopular and seemed such a gimmick to some that the writers seemed to back down from going back over this.) Cat's shutting the window on him means that Vincent can't deny that he wants Cat in his life more than anything. His exercising non-stop and angry retorts to his handler in "Hothead" show just how much Cat already means to him. And Vincent is PLEADING with Cat not to close that window and to be a part of his life. He tries to tell her that he DOES trust her (at least somewhat) because he finally remembered that he knew her. Yet Vincent can't follow up that trust with evern the little he knows about his missions, so it all falls hollow, despite Vincent so WANTING to let Cat in so that he can keep her in his life. And Catherine is so SAD in the moment, NOT angry. So you really cry for both.
But it is still a favorite scene BECAUSE it tells how the love is there, just waiting for a reason and means to get the two back to one another. (But so painful that it probably makes my WORST list as well. Go figure.) Even when in pain, the two are drawn to one another. And the scenes that follow in "Hothead" reveal how NEITHER wanted the window between them. BOTH respond with violence and a drive to create even more havoc for one another and a failure to make wise decisions because they aren't approaching things together, the way they REALLY wanted to do.
I really do want my Love without the Pain, but what makes VinCat ultimately so much stronger is that they COME BACK from the pain and LEARN how to love and trust all over again. Better foundation makes for better Epic Love. Still painful beyond the telling of it.
#14 --"Hothead" --Vincent working out and mouthing off at his handler because he is SO FRUSTRATED with being kicked out of Cat's life.
Yeah Vincent. You see that sex really wasn't so meaningless. All you want is your Catherine back. Admit it. All it took was two dinky little memory flashes without even the emotions or knowledge of the events that they entail to make you KNOW you want your Catherine back. And the fact that Vincent's handler even EXPECTED that it would be Vincent's contact wtih Catherine that would cause an emotional derailment for Vincent just shows that EVERYONE knows that these two are epic, whether they want to admit it or not.
Plus, let's face it, the visual watching of Vincent taking out his anger (and sexual frustrations) on his own body through military exercises was just GREAT as well as causing a Memory Throwback to Season 1 "Saturn Returns" when a half-naked Vincent is tossing and turning, doing his military exercises, ALL because he has just come from seeing Cat so is amped up (but not getting what he REALLY wants out of the relationship yet. Friendship alone never really worked for the two--they always want more.). And at this rate, I would take ANY scene that caused me to remember the blissful moments of Season 1.
Also, at this point in the season, it seemed like VinCat could get back together fairly quickly and easily after that pesky handler got found out. Didn't realize that the incidents of 201 and episodes following were CUMULATIVE, meaning that the issues hadn't REALLY been dealt with and would cause major disconnect and distrust come when that handler got revealed. So LOVED this scene for all it implied about Vincent--it never was meaningless sex for him. He WANTS to be Cat's boyfriend and to build a future with her. It all catches up with him in this episode about what he wants.
#15 - Hospital Scene from "Hothead" --LOVED, LOVED this scene, especially EVERY LINE between VinCat. Cat can tell Vincent that he went looking for violence and his own mission ALL BY HIMSELF (while probably failing to understand how she had done the same thing with LOOKING for the bar brawl in order to get out her anger and frustrations over the Time Apart from Vincent). And as a result of the hospital scene, Vincent and Catherine really quit denying that they want to be apart of each other's lives, despite the mess that is the missions.
Catherine and Vincent are able to clarify and understand that they DO want to be a part of each other's lives. Just don't want the lies that go along with the missions. And Vincent UNDERSTANDS where Catherine is coming from. They are actually able to talk. And both are clearly in a relationship. They can't deny it or the fact that they want to find a way to be together. Gave them both a direction and let them both know how much the other cared.
#16 - Boathouse scene that follows hospital scene from "Hothead." Catherine shows up at the boathouse. And she isn't there to spy. She's worried sick about Vincent. She can't stay away. She wants to help him. And Vincent ignores his handler's instructions to not have contact with Catherine. Proving what is REALLY stronger, at least at this time. And Vincent is able to tell Catherine about what he has seen. And Vincent and Catherine are able to work together on a case just like old times following this scene. And when Vincent is worried about Aaron remembering him and how they are to proceed, Catherine is able to comfort him. As Vincent says later at the end, it is a wonder what a few memories and some honesty can do for them. Takes so little to get them back on track. Or so it seems, of course. But at this time, I SO WANTED to believe, and everything seemed to be so well on track.
Also what is critical about this scene is that Vincent questions Catherine about what memories do for her. Why is that important? Because it means that Vincent doesn't necessarily HAVE the emotions coming to him through the memory flashes because they are too brief. The writers chose to put those lines in to show that Vincent QUESTIONS even the memories that he sees coming back to him because he isn't even sure if it is real AND the fact that the emotions may not be there in that he asks Catherine if emotions being with the memories happens for her. No matter what you take from this episode, you couldn't deny that underneath all the doubts, there was still the VinCat love. The problem was that away from each other, and with the influence of damaged people with their own personal agendas (Tori, Gabe and Bob), VinCat let the doubts rule.
#17 --Lights turned out at the precinct in "Held Hostage" I say this scene is still the turning point in VinCat finding their way back to one another. Vincent might think that it is all "Cat's mess" that she has caused by bringing the gem to the precinct and destroying his precious plan, but after he has held the gem and hears the shot go off, Vincent can't just leave. Cat's words MEAN something to him, BECAUSE SHE MEANS EVERYTHING to him. Whether he wants to admit it or not. And he can't leave her to die. Even when he sees it is Tess that is going to be shot (with Cat nowhere to be seen), Vincent would know that Cat would surrender herself before she would let Tess be shot, so it is all the same thing. And Vincent risks losing the gem and his life AND exposing the whole beast thing. And the TRUST is back, as Vincent trusts Cat enough to throw away the necklace when she tells him to, despite not being able to hear the whole explanation of WHY he should dispose of the gem. And Vincent chooses to save Cat rather than the man with the information. So Vincent shows where his priorities really are. It just gets summed up by the two on the floor of the precinct --"you didn't leave," "you turned out the lights" that showed that each really had faith in the other AND was willing to risk it all to PROTECT one another. And so help me, they looked so much like they just wanted nothing more than to fall into each other's arms after that. From this point on, VinCat is fighting a loosing battle with their own selves in fighting staying apart.
What is so sad is that EACH thinks the other has moved on, starting in this episode. Vincent TWICE looks back and forth between Gabe and Cat to confirm what Gabe has told him at the boathouse. AND AT THAT TIME, Gabe looks more like Vincent than Vincent does. Gabe is the guy trying to save others and looks to be fully redeemed, while Vincent could possibly still go either way, particularly as he is still with Tori. However, Vincent wants to be by Cat rather than with Tori. He leaves Tori to the paramedics in order to go back into the precinct. Again, Vincent looks at the looks between Cat and Gabe before declining the birthday invite for Tess occurring at Gabe's. And Vincent is back to starting to feel unworthy of Cat's love and to realize what he has put Cat through, now that he AGAIN knows her true character and loyalty. So Vincent doesn't want to get in the way of anything. (We won't hear this actually articulated until episode 513 in the conversations between JT and Vincent, but it is there from 211 forward. Vincent looks rather devastated and is quick to leave by seeing Cat and Gabe.)
UGH, these scenes were SO POWERFUL yet take so LONG to work it all out as to just WHY they are favorites, when there is so much pain and hurt or disconnect that is still present in these scenes. Again, I have spent about 2 hours on this post. So will continue with #18 through #20 tomorrow. I now see why I subconsciously/deliberately just skipped over posting these scenes and just went back to the love in #21 following. Still, were powerful scenes, even if heartbreaking, and showed the VinCat love. Which is what I live for in my BATB watchings.

Vincent looks rather devastated and is quick to leave by seeing Cat and Gabe.) UGH, these scenes were SO POWERFUL yet take so LONG to work it all out as to just WHY they are favorites, when there is so much pain and hurt or disconnect that is still present in these scenes. I could read your posts all day long. They are so great!
