I was thinking about how nice it is to have BATB in the summer when life is a little easier, at least for me, and, in thinking about the jump in ratings, and the convenience of having eps back-to-back, I told Karen that I think BATB would perform very well as a summer show, and I'd almost rather see it as that if it could get better ratings and not have those dreaded winter and spring breaks, like in a "regular" season.
So, what do you think? Would you like to see a fall-spring show? A spring only show? Or a summer show? I know this also depends on if we're talking about a 13-ep season or a 22-ep season, and I know most would prefer a 22-ep season, obviously. But, Idk, I just feel that BATB will be a good summer performer, especially without competition like Dancing With the Stars, Sleepy Hollow, etc.
Thoughts?

well i would most definitely prefer 22 episodes lol and in the normal fall-spring run if we would have the option to keep having 22 episode orders regardless of the ratings that is exactly what i would want now, we know we only have 13 episodes for season 3 and i dont mind them airing later (in the summer) if that means that we have a better chance for season 4 though to be fair i think BATB is too costly to become a summer show...but i do realise we have better chances to get slightly better ratings in summer than as a midseason starting in spring when people have already got their schedules and favs already picked if season 3 is our last season which is also very likely i would rather we aired earlier rather than later, so early in 2015 my ideal situation would be that after season 3 we get a full season 4 order but i know the chances for that are very very very very slim

You raise a good point about cost for the summer. I'm guessing summer advertising is different. I don't know a ton about it.

on the imdb boards someone claimed that if the ratings go up it would be possible to get a full s3 of 22 episodes. this would be so great and also to get a s4 22 episodes. that would make 88 total. everything after that...well..the fans just can hope and pray...

Definitely possible if the network airs the new season in January.

Assuming that I do not follow many summer shows, and despite having only 13 episodes so far, I don't see so bad that BATB could be one of these summer shows. Have 13 episodes per season is not so bad if they give me three or four more seasons, a girl can dream. Moreover, work fewer months, allow all actors have other projects, film or play, maybe.

I just don't want to wait too long for season 3.

The problem is the wait. But IMO anything straight through is better than the other option. Getting the last grouping of S2 episodes in the summer was a pretty long wait, but the upside is that we get back to back episodes... which I tend to think is better.

The challenge with the current Summer slot is that BATB is up against 24 which is airing new shows. It would do better if its time slot was up against more reruns.
I would hope that it could stand on its own and air during the regular season. But with the current ratings, I'm really just happy there's even gonna be S3. So I don't care when it airs if it means getting more seasons.
Since the S2 finale is suppose to have both closure and a cliffhanger, I'm assuming it will be closed off in a way that can start S3 with a fresh story arc. If S2 ends with a bang (which it's definitely on the right track to do) and S3 starts fresh, that could be the inflection point to attract new and more viewers.
A bit more promotion would help too!
The show is so under the radar. I only stumbled upon it one fateful night by flipping channels. If I hadn't been a Smallville fan and noticed KK, I probably would have continued to flip the channel.

The CW has the power to make this show amazing in terms of making people aware of it and they don't. It's so very frustrating. I'm a firm believer that if more people knew about it, more people would watch and be hooked. I read somewhere that some fans of Reign, which only came out this year had no idea about batb or that it was on it's second season. They legitimately thought it was a summer show from the get-go. So frustrating.

You raise a good point about cost for the summer. I'm guessing summer advertising is different. I don't know a ton about it. I think for the big 4 networks, at least in the past when ratings overall were higher, summer ad rates were a lot lower because the ratings in the summer were lower, which is why networks usually used to air just reruns and then cheaper reality fare and then cheap Canadian imports. Now they are actually trying to compete somewhat with cable, running series like Under the Dome and Extant. However, the CW's ad rates are already low since the ratings for all their shows are so low. In the last 10 weeks of this past season, only 2 of their shows -- Vampire Diaries & Supernatural -- managed to get a 1.0 or higher and they only did it a combined 5 times, meaning there were some weeks when not one of the CW shows got above a .9. So if you have the same low rating in the fall that you have in the summer, I think the ad rate would be about the same. Afterall, stores still have sales in the summer, movies are still released, etc.

There are less people watching TV in the summer because they are traveling or staying out later, so maybe they are afraid they will get even lower ratings, but if Beauty shows that a show can get the same rating in the summer as the fall, maybe they will try others. But the network only has so much money and can only afford to buy so many shows each year.
