Preliminary RatingsBeauty and the Beast = 0.3 Demo / 0.81 Viewers
9:00 PM – 9:30 PM = 869,000 Viewers
9:30 PM – 10:00 PM = 754,000 Viewers
(Note: The numbers are rounded)
So we pretty much remained the same? Thats not too depressing. Although I wouldve liked it better if we gotten closer 2 1 million. I wonder why we lose the 150,000 viewers at 930. What starts at 930 thats so appealing?

What starts at 930 thats so appealing? Reruns of The Big Bang Theory on both CBS and TBS. Reruns of South Park on Comedy. Both shows tend to do well in reruns. FXM and Encore generally start movies then too. Though I don't know how well they do. Casual viewers could also be changing the channel early to catch other shows. Under the Dome, Teen Wolf, Mistresses, Longmire and Murder in the First all had new episodes starting at 10.

I don't get the 9:30 drop off either, especially when it's a very good episode like 221. How can folks not want to see the end after seeing the first 30 minutes?

Under the Dome, Teen Wolf, Mistresses, Longmire and Murder in the First all had new episodes starting at 10. Can I add my thoughts on why people lose interest in BAtB after 9:30pm? From what a few friends have told me, as to why they've changed the channel - it's called the Beauty and the BEast and they see no romance and VinCat's love for each other seems too 'ordinary' (that is, they don't see that 'epic' love that the show is supposed to be about). Some other friends who used to watch it in S1 find it too different and they don't like it anymore. They thought that the 1987 version with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman was very romantic.
So that could be another reason why some lose interest after half an hour of watching. I agree with them, because I find myself on the computer (a lot) while the show is going on.
I started watching the show because I thought BatB would be a story about TRUE LOVE and I HATE, DETEST, LOATHE love triangles, and NEVER in my wildest imagination did I think that BAtB would have those, and that BOTH Vincent and Cat would end up being cheaters and involved with other people. So I can understand why this show wouldn't hold people's interest for too long during the episode. There's nothing that really holds my attention. I don't see BatB as a story about true love, especially with everything that has gone on in S2 that wrecked Vincent and Cat's characters: Vincent cheating on CAt with Tori, having a sexual relationship with her, pushing Cat to the ground, Cat shooting the love of her life, having a sexual relationship with GAbe, Vincent's personality change. I LOVED Vincent in Season 1.
I had stopped watching if for a few months and started back after the hiatus to see if I would feel differently about the show, but I don't. I can't seem to get into it again. I just don't feel the same way about Vincent and CAtherine. My partner used to watch S1 with me and he keeps saying how different the show is and he loses interest throughout the episode too. When I look over at him, he's busy on his computer. S1 had him glued to the tv. In fact, he had stopped watching other shows he used to watch and BatB became the ONLY show he watched (believe it or not!!)!! That had surprised me, but it had said a lot about the quality of the writing in S1, that captivated our hearts. My partner said that he had found BatB in S1 so refreshing and so different from all the CRAP that's on tv nowadays.
So folks, that's how we feel, so I'm sure we're not the only ones. Maybe a lot of those who view the show for the 1st half an hour are past fans who are trying to see what it's about now and find it too different from the show they had ONCE loved.

This, you have articulated, is our sad reality. What first attracted people to the show has been dialed down incredibly, so obviously people have left. Its sad. Some of us have stood firm and continue to support it but really we can't blame people for leaving. Hopefully, the show survives long enough to find its place.
