It depends on everyone to be able to distinguish between fantasy and real life. It's our job to adjust our expectations to the reality, the defaults and weaknesses we all have, not Hollywood's fault, IMO And probably that's one of the reasons why s2 is not as successful as s1. Season 1 was more about wonderful romance (more escape from reality), while season 2 adds up some amount of "reality". And by this reality I mean the weaknesses and defaults of our main characters, not the triangle thingy, which I still don't like and consider unnecessary Okay, now you can all throw me tomatoes!! I'm ready! Well said. No tomatoes from me. Not from me either

Ah, what is it about parts of Hollywood such that it creates impossible romance, silly expectations, and promotes vicarious living through unrealistic characters, in creating fantasies that have no basis in reality while subtly destroying real life relationships? I searched if this has been posted but I didn't find it. It's from Feb. 17th. hollywoodlife.com/2014/02/17/beauty-and-the-beast-vincat-twist-season-2-episode-14/" Beauty & The Beast’: Austin Basis Teases ‘Shakespearean’ VinCat Twist"
Extract : Austin says fans can expect to have their minds blown — either during tonight’s episode, or when the show returns March 3 — by a massive VinCat-centric revelation. As you know, Kat has been heavily investigating her ancestor Rebecca Reynolds to find out how she’s connected to the whole human-beast situation. Vincent has been similarly looking into his own history, and Austin tells us that all this digging into the past will lead to an unexpected shift in VinCat’s relationship. "I don’t want to compare it to anything Shakespearean, but it will definitely add a new dynamic that fans will enjoy.”
There is stuff also about JTnT .
Why : ...." either during tonight's episode (this was ep 14), or when the show returns March 3....."? I think it will be ep 15 then !

Makes me think, in Shakespearean terms, about a forbidden love,.......like a Romeo and Juliet-esque relationship. Rebecca falls in love with a Beast......maybe both die together somehow........or maybe Rebecca desperately tries to find the gem so she can have a relationship with the Beast. Maybe the story has a happy ending and not a tragic one. The realization of Rebecca and a Beast relationship and how it unfolded would give Catherine perspective on her relationship with Vincent and a future with him. Maybe she doesn't have to worry about her nightmare "killing" Vincent and maybe that Vincent's Beast doesn't get worse, and there is hope. I am thinking more positive because it has all been so depressing and tragic that Cat and Vincent deserve a "little" good news......hopefully.

I'm ready! Why is "fairy tale" not a reality? Much like you, I fell in love with Season one ... I could relate to the "epic" love story and the romance of it all, even with external forces pulling them apart! In my case the "Beast" was my crazy mother in law!!!! LOL!!! ( But I digress ) Season one was different - an adult fairy tale that did not condescend the audience. Most of us could relate to that timeless, unconditional love. Perhaps, I am of a different era ... perhaps the core demographic for batb are??? Personally speaking, I think they are going to show that Catherine's ancestry were "Beast killers" and then as I have said before, we will have it all over again! It will become Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Catherine much like Buffy falling in love with that she was meant to slay!!! ~ If that happens, I will be so disappointed! Because that would be lazy writing ... indeed

Also hoping for no tomatoes thrown my way, but I must say, in trying to live with the Direction of Season 2 when I am a staunch VinCat Beastie, I do enjoy the fact that our main characters are only human and make mistakes. Since everyone makes mistakes (sometimes hugely epic ones), how they ultimately deal with said mistakes, misunderstandings, scary predictions for their fates/destiny make you love them more. Of course, WE know what is best for them, but it is interesting to see them come to know what we already know.
I like knowing that despite Catherine being a bad kick-butt mama with skills to take down them criminals on the streets, she has been tragically scarred by first, her mother's death right in front of her and finding that the Beast that actually did save her is a hunted individual by the evil Muirfield. Automatically, this makes Catherine and Vincent allies. By having Cat's own biological father capture and turn Vincent, making him operate outside of the law by killing supposedly for the greater good, it is inevitable that Vincent and Catherine will be at odds with one another, despite their feelings. Vincent 2.0's feelings for Catherine were still too newly developed to recover from this blow, particularly after Reynolds plays on those fears that subsisted even in Vincent 1.0 that he was not Worthy of Cat. Vincent thinks that he basically "belongs with his own kind." And Tori wasn't so terribly bad at first. She was lost, just like Vincent, and trying to find her way with these new uncontrollable powers and history coming into play. She ever only seemed to want Vincent, and was willing to try to be whatever he wanted in order to get him. I like seeing that despite the Vincent shooting, Catherine and Vincent never can get away from each other; and you quickly see that neither really wants to, deep down, although neither is willing to acknowledge it at first. Vincent turning back into himself and being re-emerged with his family from Season 1 (which was originally JT, then Cat, and ultimately Tess' foray into the group and even Gabe) makes him the man that Catherine loved before. We see that pull clearly on the screen. I LOVED Kristin's facial expressions when Vincent told his Mentor that they weren't together. I mean, Catherine didn't plan on correcting the guy, by my way of thinking. The nightmare(s) that reveal her inner turmoil, and her outbursts to her friends and silence to Gabe just bring it home. Outwardly, Catherine is not willing to admit she has made a big mistake in starting a relationship with Gabe. Catherine is just basically doing what she has to in order to keep from falling back into Vincent's arms now because she truly believes that SHE could be the death of Vincent, WHICH WAS VINCENT'S chief FEAR in Season 1 and that kept him pulling back from Cat time and time again. I actually find myself glued to the screen looking for the conflict and the struggle to get back to Normal. Even the way Cat kisses Gabe seems so symbolic of the actual relationship: Cat pulls away quickly and is off. The kiss is a quick distraction, and I loved how Gabe looks disheartened when Cat pulls out of the kiss so quickly and leaves his apartment to go work with Vincent in 214. It explains why Gabe is so quick to go after Jacob: he wants to be a part of the action to show Cat his purpose. He does not want to become meaningless and unimportant to her or the mission. I'm kind of liking the back and forth, since I KNOW that the ultimate end result is Vincent/Catherine ((or at least I can live with it. I'm not giving up on my favorite show. Just can't do it. Although I agree with my fellow Beasties in many of their rants.)).
Yes, I would like an Epic Love without tests or limits. But if something is not tested, how can you ever know if it is real? Catherine has been shaken to her core this season by what has happened. No matter what she did, it was not enough; and Vincent seemed unwilling to love her enough to avoid becoming what I call A Monster By Choice. (I mean, yes, Vincent is a Beast. But you choose to be a monster by your own choices to kill and go by no one's law but your own.)
Vincent this season has shown that Beast Power Corrupts, and Absolute Beast Power Corrupts Absolutely. Vincent is having to find that power is just not worth giving up humanity, which is his way back to Catherine. And yes, he had to learn the lesson the hard way. I'm still enjoying Vincent's quest to find himself. I like that he is trying to currently Repress what he feels he can't live with, which we all know could go very badly for him. In the Original Beauty and the Beast series, Vincent's repression and hatred of his Beast side literally allows Paracellsus to play on those fears and ultimately cause Vincent to have a Breakdown when his repressed dark side has nowhere left to go but out. I see great potential for upcoming plots, particularly as the use of Vincent's Beast side may also now cause instantaneous reactions, some of them negative for obvious reasons/past trauma, in Catherine that must still be overcome for them to successfully unite. I mean, at this point, BOTH Vincent and Catherine have to come to terms with the Beast and dark side within themselves and each other. I'm All In for wherever this season takes me [provided that VinCat are still VinCat by the end of this season in case it ends up being The End--give me some reward for my faith, writers].

Ah, alwayscrazed, the small, still, quiet voice of reason (that's what Mr. Rochester calls Jayne Eyre when he is trying to fight his demons within). I love the way you analyse this, our beloved show. Your reasoning and in-depth character sketches really have made me feel better about the choices both Vincent and Catherine have made. I understand them 90% now and my VinCat heart has finally been glued back together - and it will stay that way, the proviso, of course, being that TPTB don't do something evil to break it again

Ack. Shakespearean twist can mean so many things. Like, if we are talking Othetto, and the bad guy is actually more mesmerizing then the good one and manipulates said Good Guy into harming the girl. I don't need that, let me tell you. Romeo and Juliet could mean Catherine or Vincent have to do something undesirable, like faking one's death as in the play, only to have that go wrong when the other lover doesn't get the news of why the first lover has had to go to the extreme. Either way, Shakespearean twists never end without deaths abounding (ie Hamlet). Eek. I must go back to my Happy Place. Where is that VinCat photo again? Methinks 218 may have that twist, if not before. Could Catherine's going back to Vincent also cause the re-emergence of the Beast in Gabe, a new twist, with Gabe thereafter fighting against his human desire to see Catherine happy, his Power Beast side which is determined to have the girl no matter what, and his decision to hide what has happened from others while he goes on his independent search to find the people Sam mentioned that did all this in the first place? My mind is going fifteen places at once, oh the humanity, oh the speculation!

I would not worry about the shakespearean comparison - i think he used that comparison very loosely and in fact he kind of said that by saying that he would not really want to compare it to anything SHakespearen. I think he just wanted to emphasize that the revelation about vincat and their connection will add an intense and dramatic element to the story but i dont think he meant that it would end in tragedy - that is how i interpreted it anyway
