I consider myself a pretty patient person but in all honesty I'm getting very tired of these comments about Showcase & Canada being responsible for the bad ratings! 1. The 4th of 22 episodes hasn't even aired yet. When you see it, you'll agree it's a great one! Maybe it's time to stop the ratings "Gloom & Doom" & just enjoy the show. 2. BatB is not the first show that regularly airs in Canada before the US partner's airing. In fact, a Summer show aired 4-6 episodes in Mexico/S. America long before they aired in the US/Canada. And, the world did not stop spinning!! CW & Showcase obviously agreed to those air days. They must've been told that it would have to be aired here on Sunday. Apparently, CW wasn't as concerned about that as much as you are! 3. If there are problems with BatB US ratings, put the blame where it really belongs!! If CW made any effort to promote or advertise BatB maybe more people would know it existed & watch it! Try asking CW management why BatB is being ignored! 4. Also, it's repeatedly pre-empted, especially in large viewer areas like NY & Chicago. That can't be good for ratings!
I love this show & enjoy this Forum but it's getting to the point that I can't read most threads without being subjected to the constant whining about low ratings & Showcase Canada being at fault! Catch me on a bad day & I'll even consider it insulting! I will now go get a nice Latte & put myself into "my Happy Place" and probably stay off this Forum before it completely ruins my happy glow from last night's episode!
ps: your comment implies that you've already seen "Hothead". If you are in the US, does that mean you will not be watching it tonight on CW? Or, if you are international, why aren't you happy that you were able to see it because of Showcase? Just curious! Hmm??

Suzieq, I was still living in the East Coast in NJ when the towers were attached it's a day I will never forget, my brother lived across from NYC and we could see the towers burning from our end..It was horrific! I went back there a few times before I moved to FLA,before the memorial was built, the place back then was emotional I can imagine now..I plan to go to visit my family next spring..I hope I can make a stop there and pay tribute to all innocents that lost their lives. As to them being there I'm sure it has to do wit Vincent remembering something Like you, I can remember that day like it was yesterday! Being close to Wash DC, Baltimore went into lock down mode........I had to go pick up my children from school early because everything was closing down. You could see/hear police cars were scrambling together and racing around, especially after the Pentagon was hit. I think Maryland thought the US Naval Academy (Annapolis) would be a target too. The memorial is just a beautiful tribute, ........from having a little "pool" where everyone put flowers into on the first anniversary, to this striking water-fall pool in the footprint of the towers ....It is so moving. So happy BaTB chose to pay tribute to the memory of those NYC firefighters (and others) who perished. I will never forget that beautiful, sunny mid-morning in my little town [3hrs from Vancouver, BC] when my sister in Burnaby phoned to say turn CTV news on! As it came on, I saw a plane smash into a Tower, a moment later the other Tower was hit!! Even now, I get tears in my eyes! For days, that was all we saw on TV. I had to explain it to my kids when they came home for lunch.
The Towers have been an integral part of BatB from the beginning. We all know where we were & how we first heard about the attack! Maybe we could have a separate thread for The Towers where we can post our memories of that day?
Yolie, what do you think? Maybe start a thread & copy these already posted here?

Thanks for taking the time to post exactly, what I was thinking .... it get's boring after a while defending the same constant whining, just easiler to stay off certain threads. Just for the record, Austin Basis took to twitter to defend the Canadians and said, our ratings were fine and it was the USA ratings that needed improving. I guess some people just need someone to blame!

Hmm?? i don't understand why a comment like that would anger u or insult you to be honest. we don't know why many people do not watch the show, it may be that they simply do not like it and it may have little to do with lack of promotion or it being aired in canada early. we do not know and we will probably never find out. it being shown in canada early may be one of the many factors or it may not. if people go on this forum and say that it is, this is their right isn't it? if people want to come on the forum and say that they do not think it being aired early has anything to do with it, then that's equally ok. If people are worried about renewal prospects and want to discuss this with whoever is interested then that is fine too, as far as I am concerned. Don't u agree?

Or, if you are international, why aren't you happy that you were able to see it because of Showcase? Just curious! Hmm?? Wow... Now I have to say I am surprised about this reaction to my post... I respect everybody's opinions and try to be respectful with everyone here, as well, so reading that if you were in a bad day you would feel insulted by my post really touched me. Just to clarify, I don't BLAME Canadians for bad ratings and I don't think that the fact that episode is aired in Canada is the ONLY reason for bad ratings so I wasn't implying that it's Canadians fault, AT ALL. The same as for Showcase. Yes, I'm international and I have already watched the episode and I will do my best to trend tonight and watch at cw site in order to increase numbers. If I were in US, I would for sure watch it live and still bad ratings would be there because of many other reasons like bad promotion from CW, strong competition and, yes, that BATB is not so widely appealing as other shows (my fault, I shouldn't have posted any comment about ratings here, because it obviously bothers very much to some of you). As for being worried about ratings and its impact in a possible renewal for a 3rd season, you are probably right, worrying about it doesn't help me enjoy all the episodes, but depending on the day and my mood, I can't help it, it bothers me. The same way that some people felt very bothered by Vincent's "shove" or Alex arc, etc... I may or not agree, but I don't blame anyone for their posts or say that I will stay away from the forum just to avoid posts like that (now, I could feel insulted about that too but decided not to) Sorry if I felt I was free to express my opinion and fears in this forum. And I apologise to you, Beastiegirl and Crazyforv, and any other to whom my comments bothered so much.

The truth is the airing in Canada has nothing to do with the US ratings, Those in the US for the most part, can't watch it then anyway. The problem is the way the US measures their ratings. ONLY Nielsen viewers count and I highly doubt any of them are trolling the internet trying find BATB a day early.....I agree that the lack of promotion by the CW is the main problem. That and the shaky first season that turned some people off. Sorry this really is not about the episode I too just get tired of hearing people complain. BATB is made in CA and uses a lot of Canadian companies so if it is doing well on Showcase that is a reason to celebrate, that in itself may be enough to keep the show on the air next year! OK off my soapbox and patiently waiting for 9pm...

I just wish that things were told in a different way...

Okay, before this goes to a bigger issue: 5. Please respect others. Take personal problems to private message (PM) rather than hashing out those issues on the board. No personal attacks. Respect opinions, even if you disagree. This is not for you guys stop posting. What we like is for everyone to get along and to discuss the show without getting into in a huge argument. I understand that the problem is that everyone is worried that the show is going to be cancelled. I'm worried too and I know how you feel However, blaming other people or other circumstances is not going to make the ratings better. Getting upset about a post is not going to make the ratings better either instead we need to work as a team Just to let you know we're launching a surprise to every Beasties out there tomorrow and it's only going to be a success if we work as a team for the show that we love

OK off my soapbox and patiently waiting for 9pm... I think the reality is that the rating system is dicey.....so many ways to gather viewership.....the key is advertisers. I just saw a link that had BaTB last in advertising dollars compared to other shows. Why that is, I don't know......but that is established prior to the season. I would imagine that if BaTB does well in Live+3 or Live+7 it is because the Monday night slot may be just too competitive and people tune in later. That is why viewing on the CW and other legit outlets is important. I am wondering about the "ratings" in Canada/Showcase? Does anyone know? Does it compare favorably? I am asking because I am wondering if the Sunday night viewing may be a trial run for BaTB should it not get another season in the US, but continue in Canada? I don't know how that works, so I may be just speculating. This would maybe give the show another season and some continuing international viewership? I really think the quality of the show has improved but the advertisers will be the ones that look at all avenues of viewership. So we still need to keep the word out on viewing on Legit sites and I guess "Tweeting", since Twitter is a media machine indicator.

I think it does well in Canada, though (I think it was Maria who said this) ratings are not published in Canada in the same way as they are published in the U.S. so you cannot just google it and find out. is it even possible that a U.S. show continues to air in Canada but not in the U.S.? not sure how these things work? I was also wondering something else, are many cw shows also aired in Canada in the same way as beauty and the beast (say arrow, vampire diaries etc) and do these do well? sorry I should probably be posting this in another thread
