I don't know if I am a "Nielson" family but I did get to keep a TV diary for the last week of January for the Nielsen system and I made sure I gave BATB my viewership and recorded it in my diary.
I don't have a DVR but does watching it later on my Roku count? I think it is equivalent to watching online and I rewatch several times to get through to the next new episode.
Nielson families have more "intrusion." They come in and install boxes that monitor TV, DVR, and sometimes even internet usuage. So for your Roku, if you had been one of the select few they did an install on, that would've been monitored.
What you did is the "old school" method AND, yes, it counts! So thank you for recording that in your diary. Since the diaries are not as immediate, (takes a bit to ship & then process, whereas box data is downloaded), it doesn't show up in the initial numbers, but it does get factored in to the final numbers.
The thing you did with the journal they usually send those out when Networks really want to know how advertisements are going, like around major events, sweeps, that sort of thing.
How do you watch BATB on your Roku? Hulu Plus? Amazon? Whichever channel you're using, I'm not sure if the Roku itself is collecting that data but I'm sure that Amazon and Hulu and all those are. And Hulu definitely is looked at highly by the CW since they have a deal with it this year. But for a Roku, that may count sort of like internet usage and less like a DVR...I'm not really sure. But keep watching & yay that a Beastie got something at some point to say that they were watching BATB.
So awesome that you got to be a Nielson viewer for a week
I am Dickens @dickenshall on twitter. Some of the people I am tweeting are answering in languages I don't understand.
So far no to Chile and yes to England for itunes purchases. I will stay on it. Probably wait for next tweeting event to really push. It is worth a try. The CW is there to make money and itunes, dvd sales, and cw website viewing are a way to make a show profitable. So in my world I know I can make an impact with internet viewing on the CW and itune purchases. Thousands of little drops and soon you have a cup full
Staying positive--btw I too was a Moonlight fan for those of you that mentioned that battle. At least Mick landed happily on Hawaii.
You are absolutely right! It's all about the bottom line. Nikita didn't have high ratings, but it's internet & international numbers were great...and then they drastically cut production costs and renewed it. It will probably be renewed again even though it still doesn't have good numbers to get to syndication.
I'm hoping they take a chance with BATB. I can't wait until they release financial statements & all the internet & international numbers, and we can see how well BATB is doing. That will really help in figuring out where we stand with renewal. I think those don't come out until like April or so though... it's not too soon before they have the meeting in May. If someone remembers when that stuff came out last year, please comment.
I know from looking at those numbers it was pretty evident that Nikita would possibly get renewed and that HOD would. Ringer had good international sales, which I know people keep saying, but I read an article at the time that SMG wanted out OR at least a decent break because she was pregnant so it was passed on. Also the numbers showed that TSC had poor international sales & numbers. BATB seems to be selling well, and if Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, and so on are any indication...heck, even here, there are tons of Beasties outside of the US and Canada. That's good! Just wish I had the numbers on how well it was doing now.
I watched a little Moonlight. My mother loved that show. (I feel like I'm always talking about my mom, but she's my go-to person to talk about "what's on TV".) She was really annoyed that it was a casualty of the Writer's Strike. I think the network made a mistake in cancelling it.
I think BATB has a better chance. No writer's strike. No damaged sets. (That happened to 666 Park Avenue which shot in NY, so Network figured show was already in trouble and they just cancelled the show completely. No news on when final few episodes will air.) So...all things considered, BATB isn't doing that bad. I just wish they'd pick things up. I like Muirfield, so happy that's back. Yes to action!
Though Muirfield may be the dumbest opponent....seriously, they are killing Alex but not Cat? whaaaa??? They know about Cat. How can anyone think they don't know about Cat? Even Alex said, "She said you'd come." Like hello!! Ugh. Maybe when Claire was trying to keep her cover...but now that doesn't matter. I don't know. Makes no sense. And Muirfield still hasn't found JT, but they found Evan. JT published a paper. Evan is just researching. Wth? AND they brought, "Can't keep a secret" Alex back to the warehouse? Really? What if Muirfield doesn't kill her but drug her and then they know where Vincent is....*sigh* But, I'm happy the gov't conspiracy is back. I hope they amp it up in coming episodes (looks like they do) and I want more VinCat.
Hope more action & romance for the main couple = higher ratings. We will see.
