Having had time to sleep on things and process my thoughts more, the thing I loved best about this episode is that the show seems to be taking itself seriously again. Tess is now acting like her former S1 self. The kind of person who was willing to turn in Cat for tampering with evidence in S1. Tess now sees how far she's strayed from what made her a cop and was going to resign as Captain. I found JTnT to be way more interesting in these last two episodes. It's not only JT who's struggling with finding his way, it's Tess as well. VinCat are finally having some meaningful heartfelt discussions on how bleak and dire their situation really is, instead of the usual "blah, blah - get our happily ever after back." As I mentioned before, I loved the scene where they're walking through the woods ending with that embrace on the dock at the lake. But I also really loved the scene just after Cat tells Vincent how hopeless things are, when she reaches her arm and hand to him, he tries to take her hand, but she just graces his chest and shoulder instead, and then walks into the kitchen to lament. They don't speak a word, but you can feel the emotion through their body language and expressions. Also, I kind of wish that Cat had really gotten hurt, instead of it just being a ploy. The fact that they planned that, makes me think that VinCat must also have developed a plan related to V turning himself in to Graydal at the end. It will be very interesting to see what that plan is in the next episode. And might they finally reveal who the real big bad is?! Another minor detail for bbatb, as I know you love your plot holes, it was weird that Vincent was shot with 3 tranquilizer darts but didn't get knocked out. He was up and about in time to evade the police by the time they arrived at the scene. There was no VinCat sexy time in this episode, but the ep still gets more of these from me!

I am still in shock! What a dark and dangerous episode and totally hopeless, dead end, no-way-out scenario. Everything that can go wrong went wrong. Now Grace the reporter is dead, too. She might have been able to sway the public with some honest reporting. There is a lot to process and it is really a bad thing that we are now going into a two week hiatus. All in all a breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat, fast-paced episode, which left me almost speechless and quite upset. So many emotions - very Season 1-ish and it had nothing to do with the fact that they used Alex's cabin. We are back at the sheer bleak desperation for our couple..... I agree! Very season 1-ish. There was nothing hopefull about this episode. The one thing that did stand out to me was that VinCat finally faced the truth about the reality of their situation. When their current crisis is over, Vincent can no longer be a dr at the hospital and Cat can no longer work for DHS, so the normal they have been fighting so hard for is no longer available to them. It will be interesting to see what new normal they come up with, but we will probably not see that until the very last episode of the series. couple other things, I wish there was more progress with Greydol...confused on if they really know Vincent is a beast or just a mole within the team. Loved that JT talked Tess out of resigning..but this could lead to trouble down the road. Ah, facing consequences for your actions was a big theme in this episode. lastly, by the end of this episode I was sad. This show has a special place in my heart and as much as I love season 4 I feel the dialog is way too repetitive and some episode time gets waisted...there are only 4 episodes left..snif..snif. Most of the shows I have invested time on are coming to an end or my beloved ships are broken...boohoo!!What made me sad is that it's evident with this ep that the show is now really coming to an end. The design of the episode should take us through the final arc of the entire series and they're setting things up for all the character's endings.

I have had a whole day, too, to think about it and I have to rewatch it for a second time yet (very busy day today), but the prevailing deep down sadness is with me too. They are totally setting us up for the finale and future where Vincent cannot be a doctor in NYC anymore and Catherine cannot be cop in NYC anymore. When they walk through the woods and Vincent is musing that they COULD possibly live here, Catherine says that she is a city girl - so, where does that leave them? For me it was very heart-breaking to see my resourceful Catherine concede defeat and realize that they will NOT get their lives back. KK is absolutely stunning in that scene in the cabin - I totally suffered WITH her.

First point: I will hold you to that. I REALLY hope that they have a plan B. I was actually thinking that Vincent could have gone in to Graydal a bit better prepared and demanded to see Braxton himself and then maybe he could have negotiated with him. They have seen him act 'normally and in control', so if they tell him what they want him for, maybe they could have reached an agreement (fake of course on Vincent's side) and would not have to knock him out, sedate him, chain him, cage him, etc. Why is the ONLY recourse every time anybody is after a beast to assume that they are DANGEROUS ANIMALS. They also have human DNA, so why is nobody trying to just offering them a deal? A business proposition or something like that? With this 5 million dollar bounty/reward, a business-oriented beast might just be interested? Of course, THAT would only work if they just need blood or tissue from the beast and NOT everything like a certain ADA we will never mention again. Thanks for the small plothole. I consider it another one to have fired into the cabin without knowing who might get hit. This goon was knocked out by Vincent, but he has no idea about ANY of his other abilities, so IMO he is taking a great risk at killing him and thereby screwing up the whole 'let's catch a beast' operation. Also, it seems that Catherine's off-grid, off-site, secret DHS office is no secret any longer, since Grace just walzed right in. I wonder if she will have to explain her actions in the woods to agent Dylan or if they just never even mention it. Finally: there were some poignant VinCat moments, but - like you said no sexy time. And that only goes to show that with some effort and good writers you DO NOT NEED LOVE TRIANGLES, SLEEPING AROUND, EXPLICIT SEX SCENES to create tension, suspense, action, emotion, drama, and, and, and in order to make a great and memorable episode.

Okay, watched it again.
I did not understand why Vincent and Catherine did not hide the net from the police. THAT will look highly suspicious in their police report.
Also, how could the sherrif call DHS to verify Catherine's credentials when there is NO CELL RECEPTION. Reminds me of S3 'Most Dangerous Beast' when we were also playing musical chairs with the cell reception.
Why did Vincent not sense the guy behind him before he got knocked down? I know, I know they did this for effect and to end the episode with a bang, but why do they always have to sacrifice his powers to create those kind of situations? Not really a question, mind you, just a minor rant.
Still think that drama- and suspense-wise this episode ranks at the top end.

There will always be plot holes, these writers aren't perfect. But they did a good job on this one, loved the overall feel of this episode!

Superman almost always leads with his muscle, and doesn't always think before he acts. That's why mere mortal, but evil genius, Lex Luthor can get the better of him at times. Same with Batman, who is also a mere mortal, but uses his smarts to win. While Vincent has joked that he's no Batman, he does often act like Superman. Because of his beast powers, he's more quick to react and muscle his way through things vs having a well laid out plan. Cat is really the one who's more like Batman, using a combination of smarts and fighting skills. (Although her plans don't always work, like in this ep.) Because they both drove to Graydal's hideout together, I think they developed a plan that involved V turning himself in before hand. On your last point, absolutely agree!

THANKS and a BLESS YOU to the person that did the recap that FINALLY made sense out of this episode for those of us (ME) that will not see the episode until Thursday. So WOW. Really intense. And I really enjoy the fact that the REALITY is that there IS no going back to "normal," since VinCat can't ever really have normal. Not without COMPLETELY starting over somewhere else as completely different people (as they planned to do in S1 before Bob swooped in). And the WHY is obvious: because there always HAVE been "loose ends" and ties to beasthood that can't be explained away. And by remaining in NY, they are at the source of the problems (AND where all the witnesses and people that know about beasts tend to be---even Rebecca and Alistair couldn't escape that NY issues!). As the DHS agents said last year, it is now "out there" and known by multiple people about human experimentation. NOW what I want to know is exactly WHY someone wants Vincent so badly??? They obviously know what he can do AND where he comes from, and I'm guessing that flashdrive had info from those past scientists with either Muirfield OR that other group. I get why Vincent goes to Graydol in theory, BUT obviously, knowing what he is, OF COURSE they are going to tranq him and cage him---you would be stupid NOT to. You don't try to "reason" with someone that has far more abilities to escape without doing everything possible to eliminate their superiority and bargaining position. And if Graydol doesn't want Vincent to send out on missions, THEN SOMEONE ELSE out there wants beast parts, blood and tissue for their OWN experiments. CAN'T be ANY OTHER explanation than THAT. So someone ELSE wants beasts for a mission OR to protect them. IF it isn't so simple to recreate another beast from Vincent, THEN there comes the bargaining power for Vincent. Given my above paragraph, I rather think it was stupid to go to Graydol. There is no intent to "work" with a beast (Vincent). They only want to USE a beast for something. And that unknown is rather ominous for Vincent. Plus, who could possibly be the reporter's source? Someone knows WAY too much AND has talked. HMMMMMMM. Where is this leak coming from? LOVE the promised intensity of this episode. And it really IS about TIME that Tess (and Cat and JT) start to question what is and what is not possible, given Vincent's condition AND the fact that their are too many clues out there that remain that lead back to Vincent. There is no normal that won't get discovered, at least in NY. Tess and JT will always find themselves in the situation of deciding just how far they have to go to protect their friends, meaning that they have no real lives of their own (or at least that Tess never just gets to be a police captain that strictly upholds the law). Wow. WHY OH WHY does the show have to FINALLY prove that it has SO MUCH real potential moving forward, only to be at the end of its run??? This is SO not fair!

And talking about shooting. I think for somebody who was told to capture the beast ALIVE this Graydal goon took quite a chance liberally firing into the cabin. He shot Grace and could just as well have hit Vincent and thereby killed the valuable asset he was sent to capture. THAT did not make much sense! With all the action that ensued I completely forgot that the instructions were to bring the beast alive. Kane came in armed to the teeth for a capture and one would wonder if going in hot like he did was rather careless on his part but I suppose he did not want to take any chances after all they had been warned that the beast is lethal. And I also think that Kane despise Vincent and he didn't try to hide that and the fact that he is a killer and has no problem killing anyone who gets in his way. He didn't think twice about killing Grace and Cat. This was indeed a dark episode. Not much hope at the moment. I kinda feel where Tess is coming from. I guess she didn't create the beast and feels like it's not her responsibility to protect the secret. It was probably not a good idea to bring Tess into the beast secret in the first place because her heart was never in it. She never really liked being a part of it and was involved by default of her association with Cat and then Gabe. I do get that a lot of people died because of their association to "the beast". But I wouldn't say that Vincent has a choice in all this. He is what he is not by choice and he would like a normal life more than anything. But that choice keeps being taken away from him and it's not like he can just surrender himself and get a fair trial or even survive incarceration if he is arrested given that there is always someone trying to kill him or at the very least most people will just assume that he is a monster and would probably want to see him put down without really trying to understand him. So I don't really think I am with Tess on this one because I think other than giving up the fight to stay alive and some sense of freedom Vincent does not really have any other choice. I think Vincent is really lucky to have a friend like JT and to have Cat and Heather to some extent because without them he doesn't really stand a chance. It will be interesting to see if Tess stays away from beast stuff. If she does it would mean loosing both JT and Cat because I just don't see how they could balance beast free stuff and be who they are. That must really suck for Tess knowing that the people she cares about would rather let her go and stand by Vincent. Which if we are being fair could be because the rest of the gang maybe feeling like they are being made to choose a side. Either the law which could be fatal to the survival of Vincent or support Vincent to stay alive. I can't wait to see where they go from here.

My favourite scene was the opening scene when Vincent and Cat were discussing their options and Vincent was pleased that he was now in the beast team and was close to finding out who put a bounty on him. Cat was like ok that's good, if you know the identity of the person who put the bounty on you what's next? Vincent goes," you know the usual I go after him and rip his heart out". I thought that was really funny especially given the seriousness of the situation. It was good to see that they could still find some humour in all that.

That line about ripping his heart out made me LOL. But while it was funny, it really wasn't funny when I thought about it. What I also liked was how the final VinCat scene book ends that opening scene. The ending VinCat scene is such a contrast to the opening, which was light and playful. In the final scene, they're covered in soot. Their situation is dark and dire. They part with tender kisses and looks, as if they may never see each other again.

I really laughed out loud when I was watching that. Probably the only time I laughed while watching this episode because from that point on things seemed to continously go down hill. That would not be a laughing matter under normal circumstances but given Vincent's trek record, the likelihood of that being the end result is not far fetched. I can understand why Cat didn't see the humour in that. She probably didn't appreciate Vincent invoking memories of him ripping out Windsor's heart in season 2 and the bad taste it left in everyone's mouth. I however like the direction this season is taking because I can now feel the tension and stakes are high and I anxiously await to see how they will be able to wiggle out of this one which didn't happen a lot last season. As despite the big baddies we had, even the master beast I never really felt like the team really felt the pinch. Unlike this time around everyone is on the verge of loosing everything they have ever worked for, possibly their lives are in danger as well. Not to mention that they are fighting against an evil they have not been able to identify. At least previously they knew that it was either Muirfield or some beast or the FBI. But now it can be anyone.
