I love this episode! This escape remembers the first season, but this time it's different: Vincent doesn't send away Cat. The last scene is without words, so it was fantastic! I think this is an element of growth. Ether is phenomenal and the first carefree scenes are spirited! I like this season and up to this point I think the third season is the worst.

I agree, I think my favorite seasons so far are 1, 2, 4 and 3. 4 still has the possibility of topping 2, if it continues the way it does, but nothing can top Season 1.

BeastieBoy:
I DO see the episode title as highly symbolic of the Dickens' classic, from a certain point of view. In Dickens' work, a man chooses to make the ultimate sacrifice: he disguises himself as a condemned prisoner (who is actually innocent), so that he said condemned but innocent prisoner can escape wiht his wife. He knows he can die happy, having made the ultimate sacrifice for this woman and the man she loves. Thereby giving his life meaning BECAUSE of having made the ultimate sacrifice.
Here, VinCat sacrificed everything, including Vincent's beast identity, in order to previously save Hill's family. YET, Hill turns on them because his CAREER is jeopardized. So it is the REVERSE of what happened, with Vincent having made the ultimate sacrifice that comes back on him.
And in "A Tale of Two Cities," the man imprisoned had been there BECAUSE he came to France to help save another in the first place. HE is then DRUGGED unknowingly in order for the other man to VOLUNTARILY take his place and die for him, knowing that it allows the good man to be reunited and free with his wife.
(And you also have people in position of "authority" as a result of the French REvolution ABUSING that authority, which IS HILL ALL THE WAY in this episode. It has been A LONG time since I picked up this book, so I am sure that I could find other comparisons to be made, but that is the general similarities that come to mind.)

But WOW. Just WOW.
Hill really HAS set up the ultimate double cross. Assuming Fuller survived, he will tell how VIncent was claiming someone was trying to kill him and that he thought it was his former commanding officer. It will only make Hill's claim of Vincent's PTSD and paranoia seem more real. There is no proof that the exploding device came from Hill. Vincent will be the only one tied to the device.
But JUST LOOK at the contrast between 406 and 217. There, Vincent prepared to go on the run alone. In 218, Vincent initially only came back to say goodbye to JT only to find that Catherine had been kidnapped. HERE, there is no question. Vincent is going NOWHERE without his wife. Even still drug-addled and semi-beast, he can calm himself enough to talk rationally and embrace Catherine.
And the VinCat moments THROUGHOUT this episode were just great. The two of them even being able to joke about couple responsibilities in marriage in the car, with Cat doing more of the cooking (and he loves her pot roast! So Cat CAN cook after all!).
And THAT shower scene--I actually loved the dialogue the most. Vincent starting in on role playing, with wanting to "frisk" Cat! And even knowing that they were facing so much, Vincent then just shrugs it off in order to be "in the moment" with his wife. LOVED THIS.
But then seeing how Hill KNEW that Catherine was his way to Vincent! He KNEW Vincent would come for her, if he survived the explosion on the base. And Vincent just rushes right in, scared and anxious for his beloved. Had he taken time to think it through, he would have realized that Cat wasn't there and something was really wrong. But he is so afraid for Cat that he just rushes in.
And Cat faces CRIMINAL charges for attacking agents in order to try to stop Vincent in time and save Hill, KNOWING what Hill has just tried to do to Vincent. So Vincent AND Catherine are truly the DECENT and value-driven people that even when confronted with how Hill has undoubtedly COMPLETELY upended their lives, they STILL TRY TO SAVE HIM. Contrast that with HILL, who went after VinCat BECAUSE his CAREER was threatened!
Powerful episode. And makes you realize that as long as ANYONE knows about Vincent, VinCat are vulnerable. And Cat had used PTSD as a possible excuse for Vincent's behavior with Windsor back in S2 when Vincent was facing charges, so the war vet PTSD thing will really come back to bite them. How do they possibly get out of this, all while still not having leads on the Bounty Hunter thing!
And Heather DOES show that she CAN think quickly on her feet in a crisis! And seeing what all it truly costs her in this episode. YET she, too, is so afraid of losing her sister ("you would tell me if this was goodbye"). And when faced with a definite crisis for her sister, Heather does not hesitate to take action and sacrifice her relationship wtih Kyle if necessary. So Heather had PURPOSE and depth in this episode. About time, quite frankly, as Heather has come across as little more than comic relief this season.
Altogether---WOW! S4 is really turning out to be fairly-well done, surprising, AND heavily-infused with VinCat CLOSENESS and LOVE that had SO been missing for me last season.
And Vincent having JUST struggled to keep himself from killing Fuller, to trusting what Fuller had to say AND trying to save Fuller's life, even at the possible expense of his own, until he (AND Fuller) recognize that Cat is in danger. ONLY to then have Vincent struggle violently with himself to not kill Hill.

If anyone could see an analogy, it would be you. Thanks. My high school teacher made us read a ton of books, so many, that it's all just one big blur to me now. Or I was just too busy being a teenager back then to remember much. LOL.

BTW, did my fellow US beasties catch that new CW Summer commercial that aired during 406 last night?
Finally, it was nice to see BATB treated like part of the CW's line up, instead of some ugly step child.

So about that shower scene, ran across these on social media... I'm sorry, but my mind just went to the gutter. If I didn't know better, I'd think something else is going on here.

I am probably the last person to watch this episode since I missed Thursday's airing. But............. THIS EPISODE WAS EXTRAORDINARY! I LOVED IT!! Kudos for the story, the scenery, the camera work, the background music, The LAST VinCat scene..........Kristin's and Jay's acting was outstanding! I could watch this episode a dozen times. Seriously...........Jay did an fantastic job,........he is always good but in this episode, he did it all......fear, determination, uncontrolled Beast, sadness, .....wow! Kristin does what she does best,.......raw emotion,......her anguish and tears when she sees Vincent kill Hill. The ramifications of Vincent's killing is so evident on her face. No words needed. They are a rare and unique pair ........KK and Jay make you believe in Vincent and Catherine's struggle and their love like no other story out there. I even enjoyed Heather, JT and Tess. All players were a TEAM and I loved each role tonight. Kudo's to everyone involved in this episode. One of my favorites!!

Oh, BeastieBoy what a great find. I wonder what KK and JR might be thinking if they ever got to see this. They are trying very hard for humor in the show and sometimes it fails. AND THEN you come across this GEM - for sure unintentional - but so precious.
