These "spoiler" tidbits were from an interview with either Jay or the writers, that I read a long time ago during the Alex arc. I would have to dig to find it....maybe someone has better knowledge of which interviews. That is why when Alex was stealing drugs for the clinic, we thought there was going to be some reference in the episode but there wasn't. I read the same thing, a long time ago but never mentioned it because I could not remember where I read it. If both of us recall exactly the same information, then we must have read it somewhere! Yeah, I also read it but never appeared in the show...

I'm feeling left out here coz i couldn't open it What's it about anyway? It's not just you. They took it down. It was a humor reaction video to this episode. It was pretty funny. It's a shame it was taken down. Maybe they'll re-post again.

Here is where the confusion apparently lies. From reading the letters V sent to Alex in 1x10, I was under the opposite impression. I believed they were still together, even though he signed up for the military without talking it over with her first. It was a snap decision on his part to enlist after 9/11, and he didn't include her in it. But in the letters we were shown in 1x10, he told Alex that he loved her, that she was his fiancé, and that some of the guys were (not a direct quote here) wanting to come to their upcoming wedding. The writers keep changing their minds about what they want to be true about these characters. It is confusing and inconsistent. If they portrayed certain things as absolutes in season 1, they need to try to keep to that. I'm all for adding new viewers, but not at the expense of losing your previous, dedicated ones. Well, and I understand why some of us would have that impression, and I'm not trying to be argumentative, because it certainly is important that the entire fandom is divided right now between those who had the impression that there was a split or a break up with Alex and those who believed there wasn't. I can't remember where exactly it is touched on, that he really left her, left everything when he joined the military... But it was mentioned. There is plenty of time, too, before being deployed, to mourn the loss of an important gf, have a fling, and then later ship off, and call or write in an effort to fix what was broken... I feel like those letters weren't even important, other than that they established who Alex was to Vincent all those years ago to Catherine. Honestly I'm not that bothered by the details because when my brother joined the military it was more than a year before he deployed. He could have broken up with a girlfriend 6 times and still gotten back together before he left. I don't know, just because we only had a few pieces of the story doesn't mean the writers have suddenly changed it. Lots of people join the military because they are running away from something in their life. This doesn't tilt the world as we know it for Vincent... It simply peels back the layers so that we may take a closer look. I guess I'm just confused as to why collectively people might feel we knew all there was to know about this part of the story? I mean it has been a LONG time, and we only knew bits and pieces about Vincent and Alex... I feel like we make our own assumptions based on what we know, but that doesn't mean those assumptions are right, or that we even knew all there was to know to begin with... Obviously in this case, that is why people are upset.

It's funny how reading some other people's views I found myself sympathetic to Alex. When we went through the Alex arc, I thought she was a tad crazy. But now I am not so sure. I believe from Alex's viewpoint that she never really took a "Break" from Vincent.....she was left by him and we know that Vincent wrote letters to her expressing his love and was on board planning a wedding. She was so in love with Vincent that she kept all his letters and told some patient she was in love with "someone", meaning Vincent. Alex never got over Vincent and when he came back, she was ready to jump back into a future with him. She would leave everything for a life with him. We all thought that she was obsessive. But, here we have Catherine almost doing the same thing with Vincent. They get separated and Cat is obsessed with finding him and when she does she wants to jump back into that previous life/relationship she had with him. Cat also was willing to leave everything and have a life with Vincent in Colorado. Then Gabriella is so in love with Vincent that she breaks up with Zach. My goodness, Our Vincent is a hard man to shake or forget!! I was really afraid that they would bring in some girl that Vincent was with for those 3 months he was away. Glad they didn't go that route, instead we got Gabriella.

When all the three situations are looked at from the angle you have highlighted, Alex wasn't obsessive because Catherine is not. I am not sure about Gabriella. Good view point.

1) I liked Cat's friends giving her a different perspective on herself, one that didn't tally-up with her own recollections. The memory the writer chose to use for this scene, that Cat had always liked Bad boy lame-ducks, didn't work for the character. It lessens the impact of Cats PTSD, after her mothers death she chose bad boys that she would never get too close to, or be heart broken at losing. It also detracts from the Vincat relationship, in saying "he is just her type". 2) I guess it just feeds in to the above "she's just his type". ( and possibly a few questions I have about s1e1 that have never really been answered.) Yes, I see what you mean with that now and I couldn't agree more. This falls on my previous post. The writers simply can't change the characters past whenever they feel like it. Every time they add something incoherent and nasty like that to the story, they take a little bit of their own “epic love” premise away. That's just wrong.
I understand your concern about Gabriela's similarities with Cat, but I didn't see it that way. If you look closely, you'll see that Gabriela was nobody, she didn't have any importance (other than making beasties go ballistic, of course). Vincent went to her only because she was there and she was easy (of course, depending on the writers disposition, that can change at any minute and Gabriela can became the real love of his life, overcoming Cat, because that's just the way they're treating the show now). The real threat and real commitment was Alex. She was the woman that occupied Vincent's youth, that made him want to get married and with whom he spent six years in a real relationship. And Alex was completely opposite to Cat. Therefore, I don't see a pattern to make Cat “his type”. At least that the writers didn't screw.

I hate Alex, that's for sure, but I never faulted her for still being in love with Vincent. That was not her fault, was his. But the situations are very different.
To Alex, Vincent was dead. She didn't know anything about secret organizations or weird cross-species experiments. As sad as it is, she only lost her fiancé to the war. Something that could happen to anyone. Therefore, she could have moved on. She could have mourned him, cried for him and, eventually, get real and get over. She chose not to do so. And going to a far away place to take care of sick children was always her dream, it wasn't a sacrifice she was making for Vincent. It was actually kind of convenient.
Cat knew that Vincent was taken (supposedly) by Muirfield, that he was alive and that they could do horrible things to him, things that could make death seem like the best alternative and she knew that Vincent loved her with all his heart. It's not a matter of rekindling and trying to go back to the point where they stopped, like Alex presumed. Vincent's memory was erased. Cat was trying to make him understand how important they were for each other, it was not a one sided assumption. And Cat willing to change her life for Vincent was actually a sacrifice she was doing because she knew there was no other way to be with him safely.

Hey @vincentchandler, great rant. Covered most of what I'm feeling this season. The writing staff needs to quit taking S1 beasties for granted in their move away from what made the series great. "Beast Love"

I am not sure I totally understand everything you meant but I can see some of your points that Catherine's situation is much different than Alex's with Vincent. I may have "over simplified" the similarities of the relationships but my point was that the writers made both Alex and Cat, and a lesser extent Gabrielle, a bit "obsessive" in nature about Vincent. But, if I was in their shoes, I would have some of those characteristics too.

But, if I was in their shoes, I would have some of those characteristics too. Well, I'll have to disagree with you. As people keep saying, we don't really know what happened to Gabriela. As sad as it is, I think Vincent led her, just to say "Bye, baby! It was good! I'll call you soon!" IMHO, Alex didn't let go of Vincent and the past for selfish, fullish reasons. Cat had a legitimate reason to continue searching and "obssessing" with him, as you put. She thougth that Muirfield had captured him and they could be torturing him. We still don't know if Reynolds didn't do just that. I believe he did. I just think that comparing Cat with this two other women is wrong in so many levels...
