Does anyone remember where KK mentioned that the ending conversation between Vincent and Catherine in this episode was originally longer? She mentioned in one of her Twitter Q&As that it was one of her favorite scenes to film but I also thought somewhere she mentioned it again and said something about wishing they had kept the longer version or she really liked the longer version??

Maybe I'm the only one who finds these things interesting but here's 1 page of the casting side for Alex. Sometimes in S1 they tried to disguise who the characters were by changing the names, but the size of the part, especially in season 1, made it obvious it was Cat in the hospital. Vincent was referred to as Ryan. Attachments:Alex.docx (93.45 KB)

pippin, I am VERY interested in 'these things' - the way they change and delete text and ideas is amazing. However, I am only getting ONE page of the script and the conversation between 'Bonnie' and Alex (who has seen a lot in her life LOL) pretty much follows what we have actually seen in the finished product. I am only getting one page and it ends with Bonnie asking for her sister - no mention of Ryan? I am using Open Office. The ending scene of Seeing Red was painful and it always DID feel much too short. I have made my peace with the Alex arc, since S2 was so much worse. And Bridget Regan is such a good actress.

The episode ending was just so hard for me. I would LOVE to know what the whole ending scene actually looked like originally because as it was, I literally wanted to reach through my screen and throttle Vincent. He came across to me as completley callous and wanting a relationship to solely serve his needs without real regard for feelings/love or the women involved. It was just about a "new life" for him. Yes, I get why Vincent needed a change. He had been under threat from Muirfield for a decade. Emotionally, caring about something or someone too much could result in triggering his beast. YET, we really don't get to see this or see his emotional struggle regarding this weighty decision of which woman to choose. Plus, the secrets, etc. You just end up left with a jaw-dropping WHAT was he thinking?
I loved how they handled Cat throughout this episode. You really got to SEE her emotional struggle and upheaval and the fact that she CLEARLY loved Vincent enough to risk the one thing she had left, her career, for him. SO they handled her angle well. But the Vincent stuff REALLY needed re-tooling and further exploring.
"Cold Turkey" really tries to give insight into Vincent that is SO lacking in this episode. Because otherwise, love is made to seem to Vincent to be whatever female can give him the best chance at a career or new life rather than love, feelings, and an actual RELATIONSHIP. Quite frankly, despite the justification for Vincent given in "Cold turkey," Catherine forgave him WAY too quick for my thinking in regards to the way things were in "Seeing Red."

I always felt as if they painted themselves into a corner with bringing Alex back and then they did not really know how to get back out of it. The idea of trotting out an ex was okay, because things were moving fast towards our couple getting together too soon. So, they needed a road block. First, it was Catherine's pheromones causing him to have black-outs and then they came up with Alex.... The execution of the arc was problematic, though. Like you, I admired Catherine's role and her reactions and like you, I could have smacked Vincent several times. And I could not believe him saying that he would have gone with Alex to a new life, but not happily, because he really loved Catherine. THAT was really bad writing! And yes, she DID forgive him too fast, but I did not care, because I just loved that roof scene with their first kiss so much. Cold Turkey is one of my favorite episodes by the way - watch it a lot and never get tired of it. KK was allowed to do re-writes in S1, so I believe that then ending of Seeing Red could have been much better than it was. Really to bad that it ended up on the editor's cutting room floor. And too bad that it was not included on the dvd. They could make a lot of money with publishing a dvd with ALL the cut-outs!!!!! Now, back to voting!

I thought one of the big problems with the show was the failure to really establish what the beast was. At the end of Bridesmaid up, when beast Vincent is cradling Cat i thought ok I see, the beast is indeed Vincent's deepest feelings -- good or bad -- and you can see just how much Cat means to him. Then I see this scene and I think, or maybe not. Or if so not that concerned about Cat??? When he kicked the gun to her in the pilot, it was kinda sexy cuz they don't know each other but he's giving her back her weapon and trusting her not to shoot him. This scene came off like he's looking at her going eh.
