Chasing Ghosts Recap
It is 04:45am here and I am off to work in an hour or so but I finally got to watch an episode this season that I fully connected with so who cares. for me, easily fav episode this season
alwayscrazedbatbfan, here is your recap but PLEASE ONLY READ IF YOU DON’T MIND FULL ON SPOILERS. Vincat in a church, trying to pick a place to get married . Apparently this is the fifth church they have visited and Vincent has a nagging feeling that Cat is not just picky but has other issues that are stopping her from choosing a church. Cat is still stressed out about external threats but as Vincent also suspects this is not the only thing that is holding her back. Heather interrupts them right when Cat is about to tell Vincent what is bothering her . Heather is envisaging a big wedding with many relatives but Cat is clearly stressed out and storms out to one of her “cases” after promising that she will at least get her two aunts from the airport later that day. Vincent catches her on her way out and reminds Cat that “family and weddings do go together” while Cat then reminds Vincent that she is not the only one with family issues - “have you called your cousins yet”? Vincent feels bad as he has not contacted them in ages and feels reluctant to do so now. Cat has an awkward smile at that point and we soon find out why. It seems both Cat and J.T. (well mostly J.T. with Cat as his accomplice) have tracked down the cousins who are waiting for Vincent in the gentleman’s club. As soon as I saw Hank the cousin, I knew he was a big douche (to put it mildly). Vincent is shocked while the cousin fires away with his snarky comments. This deserves a gif
This is quite an uncomfortable scene and Vincent finds out that he is off to his bachelor party – so him, J.T. and his three cousins set off to Il Cantuccio. Great place for a bachelor party… Cat and Tess in the precinct. Cat is trying to avoid meeting up with her mom’s sisters at ALL costs and uses her super human cases as an excuse again
Tess urges her to go visit her aunts. Heather ended up picking up the aunts from the airport but Tess reassures Heather on the phone that Cat will be there shortly.
Meanwhile, in Il Cantuccio – the cousins are still acting like d…s when suddenly in the middle of the day, in front of many random coffee shop customers (possibly under age kids as well, who knows) a cop impersonating stripper walks in, undresses, sits Vincent on a chair and starts sexy dancing in her underwear.
Really, people?? Could you not have at least chosen a different setting?? So unrealistic it hurts lol. Anyway, Vincent is painfully uncomfortable but thankfully the scene is cut short by a gun shot. They all run out and see a guy firing shots randomly from a fire escape who clearly has some sort of super human type powers. He shoots the Hank dude (I have to admit I was happy about that) and Vincent speeds up without being seen and fights with him on the fire escape. Cool fight scene, great fun and I am glad it was for once day light, meaning I could actually see the fight! Gosh, the beast is so sexy in fighting mode!!
sorry, more like this
Hospital scene – Hank is fine and the super human shooter is doing well in hospital as well. What is strange about the specific case is that the shooter is actually getting better, he seems to be returning to his normal self. This is somewhat strange so Vincent has asked J.T. to test the guy’s blood in case he finds anything different. Cat is (rightly so) worried that it is too much of a coincidence that the incident happened so close to where they live (she is right, again) but Vincent asks her to calm down. Trust the Cat, Vincent – she may be supercharged herself but her instinct is flawless. Also can I just say that this time finally Cat does not actually really feel like she is super charged? Like she did in 304 and 305? The threat feels more real and her worrying made total sense to me while watching. Plus I could fully understand her anxiety and stress over meeting up with her mom side of the family considering she has conflicted feelings about her mom whereas they (including Heather) know nothing about her, the experiments or how she is linked with Vincent.
Fab four (who for the first time this season I feel worked so well together) have a chat in the lab where we find out that apparently the shooter dude was infected a couple of days before with some sort of a blood born parasite/bug/virus. There is the potential for a wider outbreak though for now this is just an isolated incident and Tess orders Cat to go home and finally meet her relatives.
Cat calls Heather right from outside her apartment as she is trying to put off the inevitable – meeting up with her aunts. Heather is clearly not having any of that and Cat has no choice but to come in and say hello to her two aunts, especially as Heather threatens Cat that she will tell her aunts she is getting married to a beast. One of Cat’s aunts thinks she looks a lot like her mom – Cat is visibly uncomfortable about all the mom references. What a cute, funny (to begin with) and emotional little scene – reminded me of tough love for some reason.
Great scene between Vincent and the cousin in hospital – Hank is clearly jealous of Vincent and his brothers/dad etc. and is clearly obsessed with proving he is better. Hank made a very distasteful statement about him finally getting to be his kids’ hero and Vincent is not amused. Neither am I.
In the next scene, cat’s aunts keep going on about Cat’s mom and how inseparable her and her mom were when she was young. They also mentioned her “dad” and that made Cat feel even worse, considering they do not know Thomas is not cat’s biological dad. Heather reminds Cat that she needs to forgive and forget or start faking it, but you can see that Cat needs to externalise her emotions as it is getting to much for her. Scene interrupted by Vincent – huge outbreak in the hospital – many out of control superhuman virus inflicted victims. Cat and Tess in the precinct trying to figure out what the baddie wants – is he/she trying to send them a message? Are they using these people to try and track Vincent? Cat is clearly worried but is more frustrated by the fact that her aunts “are trying to invite the ghost of her mother at her bridal shower”.
Back to J.T. and Vincent in the lab – some pseudo-scientific jargon, but bottom line is the baddies are using proto beast DNA using the same mutation that made Vincent who he is. Vincat are determined to track down the baddie but Vincent thinks they need to meet up with Cat’s dad first– maybe Bob knows more about who could be using proto beast DNA. Bob has no idea who could be behind it all though he does advise Vincent that as he is connected to those experiments by blood, he needs to try and track down the source himself. More importantly, he gives us some great information about a certain box that includes some valuable info for Cat from her mom. Great scene and Ted and KK have incredible chemistry. KK was unbelievably good in the entire episode as well as in this scene – her eyes were tearful in this scene, and these were tears of anger and frustration (very different from some tears later on in the episode).
Vincent urges Cat to go meet up with her family despite the outbreak – and there comes one of the best scenes in this episode. Cat is washing dishes and is extremely stressed both about being in her shower and the superhuman beast outbreak. Heather makes a toast to Catherine and Vincent – she also points out that their mom will always be there and that she would be happy that Cat found Vincent, that they found each other. And that’s it for Cat – she cannot pretend any more. Full on outburst in front of everyone.
“I am sick of hearing how wonderful Mom is, how special she is, how much good she did. You don’t know what she did Heather. None of you do. I can’t stand this anymore – I wont. Heather, mom is the one who hurt Vincent. Do you understand me? Mom did all this. …So I will be damned if I sit here and write on paper lanterns and wish that she was here cause I don’t. I am glad that she is not here. Cause I will Never forgive her for what she did. Ever”. Storms out…
Honestly… that performance… wow, I expected nothing less but still I was left speechless. And see, this is what I am talking about – they have these two wonderful actors, with this intense chemistry and that incredible expressive ability – it is these type of scripts that can help bring all that out. It is these type of scenes that we will remember in a few years and it is these types of scenes that have not had this season – up till now, of course. Makes me appreciate this episode even more.
Beautiful song follows the shower scene and a sweet Tess and Cat scene – Cat is feeling a bit guilty about her outburst but Tess reassures her that Heather understands why Cat reacted the way she did. Touching Tess and Cat scene followed by a J.T./Vincent scene where J.T. tells Vincent that he had proto beast in his blood too – that makes them “blood brothers” – sweet. J.T and Vincent’s relationship is as strong as it gets – love these two. Annoying Hank dude turns up and we find out that Hank is a big ass who wanted to use Vincent for publicity (war hero) as part of his political campaign.
The last ten minutes were just perfect – Vincent and Catherine tracking proto beast blood dude – great car park biker/car chase scene. Felt real and very believable. Also very exciting ! The dude is infected and way too reckless so jumps to his death from the high building. “who would ever do this”. Well we don’t know yet, but I sure as hell want to find out
In a fab four scene, we find out that the bad people know who they are and that the whole thing was staged to track them down. Yet they still do not know who they are dealing with. Cat thinks they are “screwed” and Vincent tries to reassure her that they will fix this. Vincent feels that the Hank meeting was necessarily as he finally worked out who his real family is
Cat is alone in her apartment in one of the most beautiful scenes of all seasons – she opens the box and finds a tape. One her mom wrote for her when she was alive. Her mom explains to her why she hid the truth from her. Cat is crying while watching the tape and I was crying with her. So touching… Cat’s mom knows exactly what Cat is like and wants to make amends for her mistakes and asks her to find love and happiness. “Don’t just try to save the world” she says. Taping interrupted by a phone call – that was Cat 12 years ago, asking for help – the day her mom died – flashback to the murder scene. Heather walks in and they hug intensely ,while apologising to each other. Beautiful music as well, just beautiful and cuts nicely to the final church scene. I get the chills even writing about this scene. Just amazingly beautiful and KK was (sorry, I am getting very repetitive) mesmerizing. I could keep talking about the emotions that this scene evoked forever.
Final Vincat scene – sort and sweet and I would agree with some of my beastie buddies who said it reminded them of the subway HOD scene – Vincat and Catherine are finally on the same page and Catherine finally feels emotionally ready. I would have obviously wanted for that scene to last longer but no biggie – this was such a great episode and opens up the opportunity for a truly exciting next few episodes, big external threats for vincat and many future emotional scenes for them as a couple. The final cliffhanger was wow. Grenades thrown in church, vincat storm out and what looks like a formidable enemy enters the church. THE END – and what an end to such a great episode.
Much less exposition, better writing and major feels throughout!
This episode is very much about Cat and her past connections – especially her mom. We see from the outset that Cat is still deeply wounded by what she perceives as her mom’s betrayal and how it has negatively affected her and Vincent’ s life. Her anger and frustration are evident throughout the episode, until the end when she finally lets go. This episode I feel was necessary and all it means moving forward is that the two of them can work together to fight the big bad (who is finally a big bad I am really intrigued by) without having to worry about lamp shades and LCD screens – they are both now on the same page, it seems. Or at least I hope so. Needless to say I will rewatch this many times and I can finally say that my fav show is back – hopefully they can keep it!
Thank you Gillian Horvath – I was following her tweets and I knew she was a sensitive soul, I just knew she would deliver…so happy she did. 9.5 out of 10 for this episode – a slightly longer, more satisfying end Vincat scene would have made it a 10
Thank you writers/Gillian
